A notorious baron aims to prove himself to a proper lady, whose lack of sight does not impair her better sense...

When a cruel prank leaves the blind Olivia Blake ripe for humiliation on a ballroom dance floor, she is rescued...by an infamous rake. Soon she is seduced by the charm of Adrian Calwell, the scandal-chased Baron of Norbury, who is much more than he seems.

Adrian's only goal in rescuing Olivia was to thwart another man's heartless trick. But Olivia proves to be well worth it, and Adrian is impressed by the unusual young lady. Unfortunately, his reputation as a scoundrel sets the Blake family against him.

He is forbidden to court her, but when rumors threaten Olivia's own reputation, Adrian takes matters into his own hands. It will take all of Adrian's ingenuity and all of Olivia's daring to find the truth and prevent a scandal at dawn.

The redemption of a rake begins with a simple act of kindness...

Olivia Blake can vividly recall life before blindness set in, and although it limits her activities, it does not keep her from participating in a London season or from dancing with a skilled partner. Yet, when a dance partner takes Olivia to the floor with a plan to abandon her so he can win a bet, hardened rake Adrian Calwell, Baron Norbury, refuses to allow the young debutante to risk physical injury or personal humiliation by wandering aimlessly among the whirling couples. But no good deed goes unpunished, as very quickly Adrian finds himself captivated by Olivia and shunned by her mother and uncle for his past rakish ways.

With a few well-planned meetings under the eye of Olivia's helpful, yet mindful, young cousin Emily St. George and a steady stream of thoughtful gifts that appeal to the senses, Olivia soon returns Adrian's sentiments, but her uncle refuses to allow courtship due to Adrian's unsuitability. But Mr. St. George never counted on his daughter Emily's determination to see her cousin Olivia happily married to the man she loves.

For anyone looking for a sweet, kisses-only story set during the English Regency period, Elizabeth Cole's LOVE IS BLIND will happily fulfill your reading needs. Younger readers hooked on Austenesque tales and mature readers who prefer traditional, clean Regencies will find this a pleasant diversion that stays with the tried and true, rather than veering off into unnecessary subplots that often leave a reader unsatisfied and pondering a loose end not neatly tied up.

The author's writing is crisp and her dialogue is true to the period. My only disappointment is that Adrian and Olivia didn't particularly come to life for me in their roles of hero and heroine. More details on the backgrounds of these characters would have made them much livelier, which is definitely how I would describe the well-intentioned and often interfering secondary character Emily St. George, a miss who is sorely in need of a story of her own from the talented Ms. Cole.

A really charming short story of a rake who comes to the rescue of a blind girl, after a nasty prank by a cruel man, at a ball. Leaving Olivia Blake, in a situation which would cause her public ridicule. Adrian Calwell Baron Norbury comes to the rescue, Adrian a notorious rake is charmed by Olivia's innocence and vitality for life despite her blindness.

But Olivia's uncle and guardian refuses her to have anything to do with Adrian, fearing he is merely amusing himself, at her expense. But Adrian is determined to know Olivia better. He employs the aid of her cousin Emily St. George. Emily is Olivia's closest companion, and fiercest protector.

I really enjoyed this short story. I have read many historical romances, but this was different featuring a heroine who is blind. Both lead characters were very nicely portrayed, I liked the side characters of Emma and Adrian's friend Robert Griffin. Perhaps there is a story for those two coming up I hope so.
If you like a nice and easy romantic read this fits the bill IMO.

Love is Blind by Elizabeth Cole
Adrian Calwell has rescued Olivia Blake after another man at the ball has abandoned her. Olivia is blind and needs assistance in most things but allows him to lead her out of the ball after the dance.
When asked he informs her of the steps as she holds his arm.
Her cousin Emily helps by telling her what others are wearing and how good looking they are as she guides her around after Adrian has left her with her cousin.
You can't even imagine how useful it is when being blind in not only being offered an arm but told how many steps and how far away they are.
Problem is he will never get close again because he is a rake and has ruined many other females reputations. When she goes for a ride with him when the others are out she confides in him that Emily has turned down offers of marriage so
she can stay close by to her. Other outings occur till her mother and uncle find out then the girls are not allowed out at all. Next they go to the public gardens and secretly meet him and he tells her he's determined to find ways to keep meeting her.
He sends daily gifts of flowers. Her uncle intervenes and meet with Adrian also to find out what his plan is...
Adrian finds out who's spreading the ugly rumors and will duel with him at dawn....
I especially liked this one because of my blindness.

A Cute, fluffy Regency Short about a rake who rescues and falls in love with a young debutante who happens to be blind. The period details are slightly on the sketchy side, but the story was nice. Naturally it could have been longer. I didn't quite see how Adrian could fall in love so quickly with Olivia. It might have helped if the novella opened with Adrian instead of the girls and he was listing around the ballroom, bored with being a rake, bored with trying to regain his respectability and then spies his one-time friend and his cronies sizing up a couple devs. The dark one catches his eye and poof, not bored anymore. Cut to the girls. All it would have taken. Still a cute read. Recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.
