Présentation de l'éditeur

How much do you really know about your golf clubs?

Did you know that:
* The lower the loft on your driver, the farther you’ll hit it?
* Your new driver has a larger “sweetspot?”
* You are playing a stiff shaft, because it says so on it.
* Women’s clubs are designed for women?

Fine, but the problem is… NONE OF THOSE THINGS ARE TRUE

Tom Wishon, one of the world’s leading club designers, takes you on a guided tour of the golf club, explaining in lay language how and why golf clubs work the way they do. Perhaps of even greater importance, he explains what to look for—and what to look out for—when you buy your next club.
“...the average golfer knows little more about golf clubs than what he or she reads in advertising or sees in Golf Channel infomercials. This lack of golf equipment knowledge results in millions of golfers attempting to play an already difficult game with equipment that not only won’t, but CAN’T POSSIBLY allow them to play to the best of their ability.”
It turns out the latest cutting-edge frontier in golf… is plain old-fashioned custom club fitting.

Do you think:
* That clubheads made from harder metal will hit the ball farther?
* The faster you swing, the stiffer your shaft should be?
* That your clubs are “just like the ones the pros use?”

Find out WHY those things are not true and learn the things they do NOT tell you in the golf club ads!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good, but the same information as before 3 janvier 2012

I like Tom Wishon's books about golf clubs. These are informative and help you select your clubs. His advice is sound: add more loft, shorten the driver, forget blades, get a bunch of wedges, etc.
I also like his anecdotes about making clubs for tour pros.

But I can't find any discernable new information in this version. If you have the older version, you've got all he has to say.

Tom Wishon gives us more than enough data and explanation to figure out how to fit our golf clubs. Or, at least why we should find a good club fitter. I've been fighting with my instructor/ club builder for years. With this book as a guide , I built a new driver to size and I started hitting fairways. I Sold the club to a friend ( for what it cost me ) I cut my own driver cut down and had it re-swing-weighted and it's great. I shaved off about 7 strokes by having a driver I can consistently hit on the sweet spot. It is an easy read and I think it gave me the big picture more than any other golf book.

I gave The book 5 stars, because The book is a no frills look into club fitting and golf clubs in general.
a must read for anyone looking to be fitted for clubs or would just like to no how clubs work Tom gives ,
strait forward discussions on all topics. with no hype, unlike another big name golf fitter (Maltby) in the industry.
Tom is a class act with a wealth of knowledge. And when you read The book it's clear he has a passion for sharing this

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Good read. Helped me find a custom set of irons 2 février 2013

After reading Wishon's book, I wish I didn't walk into the big box golf stores and buy clubs right off the rack. I used there "simulator" to hit irons, and was astonished I was hitting them so far. No kidding, the launch monitor at the big box golf store is dialed in for distance. We all want distance, so seeing that...I bought clubs right off the rack. They turned out to be completely wrong for my game.

Wishon describes the science in club making and the reasons to have them professionally fitted. He's right. I now have a custom set of irons that are set to my strength, swing style and speed. I went from a 22-handicap to a 12-handicap.

If you want to improve your game and shot making consistency because of the clubs that your using - read this book. It's not a book that teaches you lessons on how to swing, that's up to you, but it's made for those that want to understand how a golf club works.

Let's get this straight. In terms of informational value, this is a very good book. The three stars are due to the faulty printing. It is annoying to have pages printed much much lighter than other pages throughout the book. I initially thought this was a problem with a single page, but no it is going on throughout the book. Great material, poor printing.
