Self-Esteem For Kids - Every Parent’s Greatest Gift: How To Raise Kids To Have Confidence In Themselves And Their Own Abilities

This book will help you learn how self-esteem develops in children. It will also give you step-by-step instructions for building up your child’s self-esteem in a natural way. The ultimate goal of this book is to help you build and maintain your child’s self-esteem, as well as help raise their self-esteem if it has fallen to an all-time low.

Many parents do not recognize the importance of self-esteem. Even if they know that it is important, they are not aware of how self-esteem develops or what they can do to help. However, the fact of the matter is that parents are the primary influence on a child’s self-esteem. High self-esteem and self-confidence are the greatest gifts you can give your child.

With high self-esteem, your child will be able to succeed in school and in life. They will have healthy relationships, become successful in their chosen career, and be able to live productive and happy lives. Self-esteem is a necessary tool for them to have as they grow and become adults. By giving them this gift you will be giving them the most precious gift of all—happiness.

Great self-esteem is one of the most important gifts you will ever give your child. But what is it exactly? How do you define something so seemingly elusive? Self-esteem simply defined is having confidence in one’s self, worth and abilities. It is about self-respect. A child cannot develop self-esteem if they feel that they are worthless in any way. Likewise they cannot build self-esteem if they feel that there is nothing they are good at, or that they have no talents.

Self-esteem, in the end, is all about self-worth. What does your child think they are worth? Do they recognize how much they mean to you, and how important they are to you and the world around them? Do they understand that everyone has set backs, but everyone also has talents and abilities that increase their worth? Does your child know what these abilities and talents are?

Most of these questions would be hard to answer. It is difficult to ask these types of questions to young children. They often do not understand what you want them to say. In older children the questions are just as useless because the child will likely lie or simply refuse to answer. As a parent it is your job to judge your child’s self-esteem based on actions, moods and temperaments.

Please keep in mind while reading this book that while every child is different, all children need these things in their lives. You know your child best, but at least most of the strategies and tips in this book will apply.

Here Is What You Will Learn After Reading This Book:

  • More about self-esteem and why it's so important
  • How self-esteem develops
  • The Do's and Don'ts of self-esteem
  • Warning signs of low self-esteem
  • Proven strategies for building self-esteem
  • What to do when the going gets tough
  • And much more!

Biographie de l'auteur

Hi there! My name is Simeon and I'm a poet and a philosopher at heart, a health and fitness enthusiast by habit, a daredevil by choice, and a adrenaline junkie for life. I have a profound interest in the areas of personal and spiritual development, a deep longing for serenity, simplicity and numberless wealth, an unyielding belief in the goodness of all human beings, and an ever-growing ambition for all of us to be able to reach the height of our true potential and fully realize the dreams and visions that we have envisioned for ourselves. Some of my academic endeavors encompass the following: cognitive neuroscience, applied positive psychology, sports and exercise science, and evidence-based psychological coaching. I currently work as a life coach and health counselor with people who want to make realistic, autonomous, and lifelong changes in various areas of their lives. Above all, what I truly desire is to be a positive influence in other people's lives. So if I have played but the smallest part of changing your life for the better, if I have made but one positive impact on you, left you with some new insight, steered you in a new direction, or helped you take that next step on your journey, I will be more than satisfied. I'd like to share a short story I heard once, a few words by Les Brown which have had a profound impact on me when it comes to living life to the fullest. It goes like this: "The wealthiest place on earth is not the goldmines of the earth. No, the wealthiest place on earth is the graveyard. Because here you'll find an endless array of hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, books that were never written, songs that were never sung, inventions that were never shared, cures that were never discovered, and all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to realize their dream. The question is - if you die today, what ideas, what abilities, what talents, what gifts, what dreams would die with you?" So, if you were to leave here with nothing else, I would want to leave you with this: don't die with your music still in you. There truly is no one else who can sing your song. You are the one. Take care! /Simeon

5.0 étoiles sur 5 An intelligent, straight-forward approach to a complicated concept 11 août 2014

I read this author's excellent book MINIMALISM and was impressed with his beautiful writing and his ability to explain difficult concepts in simple, easy-to-understand terms. I was interested to see how he would handle the idea of self-esteem, which is probably the most talked-about and least understood aspect of child rearing. Lately, it seems to have been hi-jacked by adults convinced that giving award certificates and trophies to every kid who's breathing is the way to promote a healthy self-image. At best, it fails because the kids see right through it and lose respect for the process. At worst, it teaches the child that making an effort is useless, since EVERYONE will be rewarded equally.

This author returns the responsibility for self-esteem development to the appropriate people - the parents. He explains how a caring parent can promote a healthy self-image at each stage of their child's growth. He discusses outside influences which can harm a child's self-esteem and how to deal with them. He lists personality traits and behaviors which may indicate that your child is suffering from a poor self-image and lack of confidence. And finally, he deals thoroughly with the subject of getting therapy for your child when needed. Most parents are understandably reluctant to seek professional help, but (as this author says) the parent has the same responsibility to seek help for his child's emotional problems as for physical ailments. His tips about finding a therapist, asking the right questions, paying for the therapy, and evaluating results make the process much less frightening.

As he says, every child is different and every parent is also different. It's hard for those who have low self-esteem themselves or who were raised without the acceptance and affection that give a child a sense of worth and belonging to break that pattern. In such cases, therapy for the parent can benefit the entire family. A bad relationship between the parents also typically lowers a child's sense of confidence and self-worth as it makes it difficult for him to love and respect BOTH parents.

I was particularly impressed with the author's no-nonsense, zero-tolerance approach to bullying, which includes bullying by teachers and coaches. I loved his suggestion that the parent set aside private time (without distractions) with each child each day in order to keep abreast of developing problems. "Car time" (provided no one is wearing headphones or texting!) can be valuable keeping-in-touch times. I agree with the author that teens, who often seem to be ignoring their parents and determined to defy them, are still noticing and very much affected by their parent's attitudes toward them. As Yogi Berra says, "It ain't over 'til it's over!" and parenting is a 20-year commitment, at a minimum.

This is a wonderful guide to the most vital, most basic parenting goal of all - helping your child become a happy, confident, loving adult.

This is a good introduction to an important subject that all parents should consider.

It talks about the importance of self esteem in kids. While the book is short, it gives very practical actions that we as parents can use to build our kids self esteem. At the same time it provides important tell-tale signs that your child is suffering from low self esteem.

Most importantly the book provides practical actions to deal with every situation from a baby to teens. Definitely worth a the could change your child's life for better.
