Please note - This is a Chicklit Novel in the style of Marian Keyes and Sophie Kinsella.

Tara Babcock awakes the morning after her 30th birthday with a hangover that could kill an elephant - and the knowledge she is still no closer to achieving closure on her marriage breakup. Things go from bad to worse when she discovers that, not only is her ex-husband engaged to her cousin - Tash, the woman he left her for - but that Jake is also running for Lord Mayor of Sydney.
Desperate to leave the destructive relationship behind and with nothing to lose, she decides- with encouragement from her three best friends - to follow the dubious advice from a magazine article, Closure in Seven Easy Steps.
The Seven Steps to Closure follows Tara on her sometimes disastrous- always hilarious - path to achieve the seemingly impossible.
A credible and amazingly touching debut novel from Donna Joy Usher, this is a solid, light-hearted and honest read with plenty of laughs.

“The Seven Steps to Closure’s heroine, Tara, is an endearing character and her entertaining journey to closure is packed with laughs and plenty of heart.” Tonya Plank, Shirley You Jest! Book Awards judge and author of 'Swallow'.

Biographie de l'auteur

Born in Brisbane, I started my working life as a dentist. After 15 years of drilling and filling I discovered there was more to life, and put pen to paper. Now I drill by day and write by night. When not doing either of those things I like spending time with my husband and two little dogs, fishing and camping, motorbike riding, traveling, drinking wine on my deck and eating chocolate. Last year I ran my first half marathon and took up paddle boarding. I have lived in a myriad of places: Melbourne, Perth, England, Rockhampton, Roxby Downs, Sydney, Cairns and am now situated on the New South Wales Central Coast.

I loved this story. The characters are real and the story builds through humour, tenderness and a heavy dose of cynical reality. Gives hope to every woman wh has been spurned by their imagined love of their life

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Book Review: The Seven Steps to Closure by Donna Joy Usher 4 juillet 2012

Let me just start off by saying that I don't usually do Chick-Lit. I've never been really interested in girly dramas, boy bantering, and the inevitable over-discussed shopping sprees. I'm a supernatural fiction fan all the way - horror, suspense, a smattering of romance, and of course, vampires! So, when the Seven Steps to Closure was recommended to me by a friend, I thought to myself. Come on, woman, be brave, try something new, particularly in light of the good press it's so far receiving.
Alas, I downloaded this little bargain from kindle for $2.99 and sat back with a dubious expression undoubtedly planted across my face. But, as I was slowly woven into the world of Tara Babcock and her endearing friends, I found myself, shall we say ... hooked.
Yes, imagine my surprise as I laughed continuously at this seemingly disastrous protagonist, her psychologically deranged pets, and her saddened yet eternally optimistic view of her less than perfect dating experiences.
Let me lay it out for you quickly. Tara Babcock has had a rough year. Her philandering husband is out of the picture but her heart persists on dragging its ventricles, unable to obtain closure. Cue three very different, yet well-meaning friends and you have Tara with a new mission - obtaining the seven steps to closure thanks to an elaborate article in a gossip magazine. Get a new haircut, get a new wardrobe, start a new hobby, have meaningless sex (yes, you heard me), travel to an exotic destination, have meaningful sex (yes, you heard me twice), and obtain closure.
It all sounds pretty straight forward, doesn't it? Not with Tara at the helm.
Needless to say the author cleverly explores Tara's progress through each chapter, shaping the character into the disastrous but endearing creature that makes you smile at every witty one-liner and inevitable upset. Flanked by a smartly interwoven sub-plot pertaining to each individual friend and you have more than just a story surrounding one desperate woman's journey to leave the past behind. Throw in a trip to India and all the idiosyncrasies that come with stolen shoes, crazy bandits, Dehli Belly, and ... meaningful sex - you have yourself a very entertaining little novel.
My only criticism is that sometimes the protagonist does highlight a little too much background information on elements that do not necessarily add to the story, simply slow it down. There was also a small lack of interchanging expressions and emotions from character interaction, but this in no way dimmed my enjoyment of this novel. From a self-published author I am extremely impressed by the attention to detail and the clear passion shown in research and character development. Overall, I can honestly say that I loved this book and will probably read more from this author in the future.
I will happily give it five fangs for surprising the hell out of me and proving me wrong about chick-lit!

Did I enjoy this book: I did enjoy this book, especially the last half of it.

For me, the first half of The Seven Steps to Closure was okay. I had a hard time connecting with Tara and really feeling for her. She just seemed kind of pathetic rather than sympathetic.

However, I LOVED the second half of the book. The trip to India was fantastic. I got caught up in the romance...in the "will they or won't they" aspect. I laughed out loud, especially during the plane scene. In fact, Tara made me laugh quite often in this part of the book.

As for the characters, Tara was heartbroken but on the mend. Jake is a jerk. Matt was my favorite...I loved him. Tara's mother was a trip. The crazy pets she found were always worth a good chuckle. I also really enjoyed hearing about what was going on in Tara's friends lives. Too often, the secondary characters stay in the background even though we want to know what is happening in their lives as well as the main character's. In this book, we get some details and glimpses into what the friends are doing. I liked that a lot.

Would I recommend it: I would recommend this book to any chick lit fan.

Will I read it again: I will not.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 One for Your Reading List! 22 décembre 2012

Donna Joy Usher is on tour now with CLP Blog Tours and The Seven Steps to Closure. Tara Babcock is our leading lady, a thirty year-old whose marriage was broken up by another women - her own cousin, Tash. Even worse - her ex and Tash are now set to be married, and Tara just can't seem to pick up the pieces and move on. When her best friends offer up a magazine article with the title Closure in Seven Easy Steps, Tara decides (after much cajoling) to give it a shot. She never expects the journey that is presented to her - or the closure that it will offer.

I had a blast reading The Seven Steps to Closure! The writing is fun and light and the plot moves along seamlessly from scene to scene. Tara and her friends are a hoot to read about, and I enjoyed that each lady had her own minor plot point to add a little extra to the story. There is a very heart-felt tone the author brings to her writing, yet the book is full of humor and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments to enjoy. One for your reading list!

With Tara's inevitable divorce just days away, she reads in the society pages about her soon-to-be ex-husbands engagement and plans to run for Lord Mayor. With her heart in pieces, her friends suggest she follows The 7 Steps to Closure which they come across in a magazine article. With the help of her friends, and nothing to lose, Tara takes on an adventure to finally rid herself of her husband.

I enjoyed this book so much. There were so many times throughout the story where I found myself laughing out loud. Tara's character was so fun and believable, and I loved the fact that she wasn't quite `perfect', but actually a bit of a klutz. There were a few incidents that I could totally relate to, and it made the story that much more hilarious.

Another part of this story that kept my interest was the settings. When Tara decides to go away, the locations that she visits were places I'm not at all familiar with, but the descriptions of events and the destinations made me feel as if I was right there. I felt fear, awe and was completely caught up in the moment. It made me curious to see more of these places.

Overall, Donna Joy Usher gives us a fun story, exotic locations and some quirky characters in 7 Steps to Closure, and I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good chick-lit.

Another one of those books where everything comes out okay in the end and the woman gets the man she should have had in the beginning. Funny in spots and speed reading material in other areas. I just don't get why young women think "partying" means drinking yourself into oblivion and calling that a good time.
