Présentation de l'éditeur

Madison Lansford and Shannon Fletcher met when they were ten years old. Madison—daughter of wealthy parents and Shannon, daughter of their live-in maid and cook—became fast friends, yet both knew their place in life.

There was never a doubt that they would become lovers . . . there was also never a doubt that Madison would marry and maintain her social standing in the community. Little by little, they grew apart, their love affair ending with Madison’s marriage and pregnancy.

Now, years later, Shannon returns to her old hometown to care for her ailing mother. Can they rebuild their friendship? Or will their new-found closeness bring back memories of their long-lost love?

Travel through the years with Shannon and Madison and watch their love unfold as they move from teens to young women and into adulthood.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Young Lovers 7 juillet 2013

I had preordered this book because I enjoy the author's varied work. After it's arrival, I looked at it and was hesitant because it is about young love, the challenges the lovers face and the mature coming to together as adults. I really enjoy her development of the supporting characters of Shannon's family and Madison's son. As I became hooked on the threads of their lives, I did not want to put it down and am already missing Shannon, madison, Alice and Ashton

Let me say this is the 1st review I've ever written on Amazon (or anywhere for that matter) but after reading the first reviewers comments I felt I had to.

I've been a fan of this genre for years, making the trek to the closest GLTB bookstore and stocking up on the latest Naiad offerings back in the early and mid 90's. Then came the internet - Fanfic - and Radclyffe! Yes I remember 'discovering' Radclyffe online in early 00's and was so excited when her 1st book went to print in 04.... there's nothing like holding a book in hand.

Shortly after Radclyffe arrived it was like the gates were opened and a flood of new authors appeared on the shelves. Gerri came along with Gulf Tide and Hunter's Way and I was hooked. Her stories were detailed and well thought out. You felt like you'd been to Tin Cup and Sierra City. Characters were developed and allowed to progress & grow naturally through the story. You actually cared what happened to them.

Now maybe it's me and I'm just getting older but I feel like Gerri's last several books were thrown together, almost like we were reading a rough draft of one her favorite go-to storylines...that of young, unfulfilled love, torn apart until they can reunite later in life and profess their undying love for each other. Think Love Waits and Behind the Pine Curtain. The difference with this one is everything happens so easily and formulaic, there's no real reason to care about the characters. And that brings us back to my original statement- I felt like I was reading a rough draft. Characters were one dimensional, and worse yet, stereotypical.

Please don't think I'm only picking on Gerri here. With any author when you've got 20+ books under your belt and are continually pumping out 2 or 3 a year it must be hard to come up with new and unique characters and storylines. I've found myself disappointed after reading some of my favorite authors lately: Radclyffe (haven't read Code of Honor yet though) and Ali Vali included.

So even with all that being said I'm sure I'll be purchasing Gerri's next book, Weeping Walls, because something is always better than nothing, the glass is half full not half empty, and a true fan sticks around through the good and the mediocre. I may just do myself a favor though and pick up a Kindle to save a few bucks on the e-editions. That way if it's a dude I won't feel so bad.

Keep on reading!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Wonderful Read 14 juillet 2013
Par Blue Dancer - Publié sur Amazon.com
After reading the previous so-so review I had to add my three cents.

Every book I read, I read through a subjective lense Some of my favorite authors have, in my opinion, produced sub-par stories this year. Not that they were necessarily written badly,I just wasn't interested in the subject matter or couldn't relate to the characters or the situation. Some of the attempts at humour were just plain silly.

But in this book,my subjective lense saw a beautifully written love story. I never tire of this formula. This is the type of lesbian love story I love to wrap my imagination around. Love found, love lost, love hopefully found again.(I guess that pretty much describes the genre)

I enjoy coming of age stories. So I guess this book had it all for me. I generally read two or three lesfic books a week. Some ok, some pretty good, and once in a while, one comes along that's awesome. Like this book. But that's just me.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 emotional and sexy 23 juillet 2013

F/F romance

This is a story about returning to your old hometown and the love you left behind.... the one who chose the straight life to please her family over you. Shannon Fletcher and Madison Lansford meet as little girls but the boundaries of their social roles leave them little more than "stolen moments" all through their young lives. This only works to enhance the intensity they both share.

The character chemistry and sexy sex I found here is one of the biggest reasons why I love Gerri Hill. Many of her stories are just average to me, but when I finally hit a book where her leads sizzle, they are easily my favorite couples in this genre. More specifically, I love her femmy blondes. The very repressed and wealthy Madison Lansford is definitely a new favorite! ... primarily because she's anything BUT repressed with the right woman, lol. ;)

The plot here as a whole was mostly average/predictable and some of the secondary characters were two dimensional cardboard existing only to move the plot along. And I had a hard time picturing the darker-haired Shannon (soft femme?).... but I just loved these leads together and couldn't put down the book. For all its shortcomings, the author still managed to capture that intoxicating neediness these closeted beauties seduce us with. And who doesn't get weak in the knees over that sheltered rich girl/servant thing goin' on? The theme of falling madly and passionately for someone who is mostly unattainable will definitely resonate... irresistibly so or perhaps painfully so. I think we've all been there to some degree. If your wounds aren't fresh, you'll love getting an HEA here. lol.

I was almost surprised at the very emotional and somewhat erotic journey I found here, but that's how these forbidden affairs do go (and I ain't complaining!). These leads kinda evolve and mature into something different over the second half, but I really like emotional and vulnerable characters who go through great changes. Madison was very memorable that way. And I don't care how many times Gerri goes there.... I will never, ever, EVER tire of her "straight" femmes who fall madly for the sexy lesbian and just can't stay away... and beg to be taken, lol. Very hot.

The book is divided into two parts. Part One is made up almost entirely of flashbacks and takes us through their childhood, adolescence, 20s, early 30s... and drops us off into the present in Part Two when they're now 37 and 38 and meet up again.

I didn't really care for the whole flashback set up. I think the story coulda just been told in chronological order and left out the pointless, undeveloped friends. Still, it worked okay and didn't suck up the present and dim the romance as it did in Behind the Pine Curtain where we find a similar storyline. It also had more realistic conflict than the ridiculous issues in Love Waits, which is, again, the same story template. And the sex and love here blow on either of those two previous books.

I was a little hesitant about picking up a story that would clearly dwell in the YA arena because I prefer my characters to be older... but Gerri Hill definitely got away with it here, lol. I fell for these two immediately and liked seeing their whole life play out. But their younger selves are definitely their hottest selves! This author has some definite talent in the portrayal of young love.

LOVE how the cover actually looks like the house in the book!

Fun ride. Definitely recommended.

At Seventeen is an easy read as most of Gerri Hill's books are. The only problem with this book is the predictablity facter that this book has. The characters are sweet enough. we take the journey from friendship; experiencing a new young love; heartache; desperation; followed by rekindling the fire and desire of youth. If you are looking for an enjoyable Sunday read, this book is a good one. Just looking for something refreshing from Hill. She is a very talented author, with a lot to offer the reader; however just looking for that special read that I know she can write.
