Présentation de l'éditeur

Inspired by the sublime, subtle tones of wintry northern landscapes, the 35+ projects in Shades of Wintershowcase the natural beauty of pure undyed wool yarn photographed against the Scandinavian winter's snow crystals and cold. These gorgeous garments - from tops, sweaters, dresses, and coats to hats, mittens, scarves, and shawls - evoke wool's warmth and softness in many different patterns and textures. A knitter of any skill level and inclination will surely become enchanted by the possibilities: garments ranging from simple garter and stockinette to more elaborate cables, bobbles, texture, and lace patterns. Knitting with eco-friendly undyed wool creates a rich, visually organic theme for the book. The chapters are organized by the natural tones of the yarns: white, gray, and beige. These fine woolens are not only visually stunning, but hold the promise of doing no harm to the environment. Knitters will be transported by the book's artful photography, taken in one of Sweden's most exotic and famous locations, the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi. Here, stylish knits are viewed in a dreamlike atmosphere, where ice columns and ice crystal crowns in the pillared hall range in color from the iciest light blue to the deepest petroleum blue. The only shivers a knitter will feel are those of pure delight at the contrast of woolen warmth next to icy environs. Like a modern fairy tale, Shades of Winter will captivate any knitter.

Beau livre de tricot, très jolies photos et modèles magnifique, il est en anglais, mais cela n'est pas une barrière si l'on connait les termes de tricot.

Interesting and Modern 31 octobre 2012
Par P. Pettengill - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié Achat vérifié
Based on some of the earlier reviews of this book, I was a little nervous about placing my order. Yes, there are some items that are probably too simple to need a pattern, such as the Garter Stitch Shawl, but there are many others that are fun and interesting. There are a couple dress patterns that would make great tunic tops over tights or leggings, and several accessory patterns as well as cardigans and sweaters. If you like chunky knits, this is a great book.

Lovely cover 28 octobre 2012
Par M. Grotzky - Publié sur Amazon.com

I have several Scandinavian knitting books, notably Poetry in Stitches and Handplagg, and thought, from the cover, that this would be a nice addition. If you are, or are knitting for, someone very young and slender with a taste for goth style, some of these garments might be wearable, especially knitted in black, which of course is not the point of the book, where the garments are shown in natural wools. Some are suitable for a first time knitter. One is a shawl: "It is worked only with knit stitches in one straight piece and then held together with a shawl pin. Nothing could be easier!" It is easy, but do you actually want to pay for this? Unfortunately several of the pieces look made by a beginning knitter.

There are a few nice stitch patterns, but none that can't be found in other books, and sometimes there is a pleasant design element that might be nice on a different sweater or cowl. In the directions section, each piece is presented flat, so that you can see what it actually looks like. The pieces appear unblocked and uncared for.

The title, cover, and concept are nice. Someone should write a book worthy of them. And someone should do something about the models' hair. They look as if they's stumbled a hundred miles through a storm in Game of Thrones.

No Cohesiveness and Just So-So Patterns 25 octobre 2012
Par Fairbanks Reader - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié Achat vérifié
I am somewhat disappointed in this book. There is no real cohesiveness to it except shades of color - white, gray, and beige. There is a section for each color and some of the patterns are okay and a few (very few) are good. It is not a book that I would take home and look through again and again which, to me, is the sign of a good knitting book.

I plan to return it to Amazon because there is nothing special in this book for me.

Modern style knits. 31 juillet 2013
Par SharC - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
This book is great. If you are looking for more complex knits then it isn't for you. The knits are simple but have something for everyone. Stockinette, garter, cables and lace, all of the lace patterns are done with s 6 needles, gloves and leg Warner's on US2.5-4. The garter and stockinette sweaters are on US10'-10.5. The lace is simple and can be conquered by a beginner to intermediate knitter, and the same for cables. I am an intermediate advanced knitter but love some mindless knitting for the TV and this is right on the money there are 40 pr more knits I believe, and there is everything from leg Warmers to gloves hats, cowls, jackets, capelets, sweaters that are dainty and others that look like your boyfriend sweater. And there are also skirts and dresses that would look awesome with leggings and boots. Young hip and modern styles. Yarn weights are 2 baby weight & 4 worsted so they all make up lighter knits that Rent bulky and adding on pounds, although the models are twigs! Sizing goes from XS to 2X. I cant wait to dig in!

not what I hoped 30 octobre 2012
Par CF - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié Achat vérifié
I was hoping for some classic patterns that I'd like, but honestly there is hardly anything in here I'd wear. The "Holey sweater" is just godawful, and the bulky weight dress... sigh. I do like the lace sweater but one pattern is not enough to make me happy with the book. And it appears to use only two yarns - a fingering weight, and something called 'worsted' but usually knit at about 4spi. I should have been warned by the mention of the high fashion industry in the authors' bios... I'm going to try to sell it or give it away.
