Présentation de l'éditeur

Spread throughout the dark corners of our world lies the Shadow World, a society of vampires who feed off the living. In Austin, Texas, one woman must quell the cravings rising within her, as the very fate of the world rests in her hands…

Ever since her Prime, David Solomon, returned from the dead, Miranda Grey has been hungry. The transformation from ordinary vampires into the ultrapowerful children of Persephone has left both Miranda and David craving the taste of death—and their appetites are growing.

Meanwhile, a formerly vague threat from a fringe group of humans has turned into a full-on war. The Order of the Morningstar has devoted itself to eradicating vampires and has begun to assassinate Primes all over the globe.

The Shadow World’s fate depends on the Circle of Signets descended from those who subdued Morningstar hundreds of years ago—but if even a single one is killed, the war is almost certainly lost. Now, with the help of a strange new ally, Miranda must put aside her hunger and access long-forgotten magic to save the Circle, but time is running out…

This used to be a must buy series for me. I found the world to be so interesting and the characters were endearing. I was probably one of the few people who didn’t have a fit about the David/Deven betrayal in book 2 because I kind of got it. I’ve continually given the series a solid 4 stars, but I haven’t been as eager to read it as I once was. The reason that the series keeps getting 4 stars is because Dianne Sylvan doesn’t hold any punches. While parts of each book hold the story back, there is always something major that elevates the book up from 3 star status.

The first part of the book really dragged for me and I found myself wanting to skim. The world has changed so much since the first two books and has gotten almost a little too complicated to follow with all the different characters, factions, etc. The characters are what keep me coming back, but at times I wonder why. I often don’t understand their motivations or what they’re thinking. Throughout this book, I still had that same problem, plus everything moved so slowly. There was action, but it all seemed a lot alike.

As she did in the previous books, Dianne made a big move, one that in the past had made me forget all about my problems with the book. This time, the big, sad moment that sort of takes you by surprise, wasn’t that surprising. There were a lot of signs pointing to what was going to happen and while I applaud her ability to kill off important characters, as she has done the majority of this series, I had a difficult time seeing this death as anything more than a way to get the character out of the way. For the majority of the series I’ve felt like this character has gotten the short end of the stick, yet they are one of my favorites. I’m glad that this character at least got some kind of happiness before their demise.

And then of course, to save the life of the dead characters loved one, they had to give that love one a new consort and of course it was someone that the loved one was already attracted to. The way Dianne worked it out, made me feel even more like this all was a convenient excuse to give the loved one someone else to bone. This whole situation bothered me more than the David/Deven betrayal ever could have.

Now that the series is going to be self-published, I don’t know if I’ll be able to continue reading it. I no longer feel like I can buy the series and if I can’t get it from my library, I don’t think I’ll bother. I don’t care about the characters or the story like I used to. Which is sad, but totally happens. I respect what Dianne Sylvan has done and I hope that eventually someday I can finish the series and find out what happens to the Circle, but I won’t be going out of my way to make it happen anymore.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Brilliant! 8 avril 2014

This story revolves around the Morningstar’s crusade to demolish the Shadow World. To fuel their army, Primes and Consorts are being annihalated around the world. Despite the unparalleled strength and power of the newly formed circle of eight (David/ Miranda, Deven/ Jonathan, Jacob/ Cora, Olivia/___ ) they aren’t immune to the destruction around them. If anything, the death of the other primes are just a means to an end with the circle being the primary objective.

Defeating the Morningstar should not have been a great concern but because of Deven’s unwillingness to carry on it becomes a massive issue. The shocking factor is the new race added in to spice up the story. If you’ve read Book 4 you know that Deven is a forth elven. Who else would be better to fix Deven’s problems if not one of his brethren. Here enters Nico…

At first, it was difficult to accept him. I felt highly suspicious of his intentions. Why would an elf leave his peaceful abode to help someone who wasn’t remotely close to him? As the story progressed we find just how elaborate Nico’s involvement really is. And let me tell you - his appearance into the fold was not like anything I would have ever expected. Whatever happens is just unbelievably heartbreaking yet beneficial at the same time.

At first I couldn’t understand why the author decided to take this route but in the end I realize that it was actually brilliant. This is just one thing that I loved about it. It’s unpredictibility – it kept me on my toes and at every turn continued to surprise me. Other factors are, as the series progresses the relationships flourish beautifully. It also doesn’t just concentrate on the one couple but the circle as a whole. These characters evolve into so much more than they ever were and even begin to discover and harnest their newfound skills.

It might be an issue for some but as the storyline moves along it gets more and more complex which I absolutely love. Where in Book 1 just involved vampires and humans now we have a variety of supernaturals working together to achieve one goal.

I have to admit that in the beginning I had issues getting into this story. It might have been because it had been months since reading Book 4 – Of Shadow Born or it could also be attributed to the multitude of characters and POV’s that were introduced at the very start so if that becomes an issue for you I recommend pushing through…everything will come full circle in the end.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 A slow start and a book that felt incomplete ... 19 avril 2014

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Heidi

shadowbound-shadow-world-dianne-sylvanDavid and Miranda don’t know what to expect with their latest transformations. They have more power, more speed, sharper senses, and are harder to kill, but it comes at a cost. They must drink someone to death once every new moon. David sees it as only fair and is okay as long as he feeds from the dregs of society, but Miranda still struggles with taking another’s life.
But all of that is put on the back-burner as Morningstar is getting bolder. They are hunting Signets and using their power to build armies of mindless minions to do their bidding.

But when their latest attack hurts one of David and Miranda’s closest friends, will they have what it takes to pull him from the brink of death?

I found this book had an incredibly slow start, and I really struggled muddling through it all. There isn’t one thing I can really blame this on, all I know is that it was hard for me to keep reading, and I was easily distracted from the book.

But the wedding hooked me, in this book. I felt so incredibly bad for the tragedy that occurred in the wake of such happiness though. My heart bled for the survivor of that union and I did find it a bit cruel that he was forced to endure such heartache. But he’s a character I wouldn’t like to lose in this series! One of my favorites, in fact.

But that ending? It didn’t feel like an ending at all. A sneak peek at what is to come, I guess. But it left the book feeling incomplete.

This one was good. Although i'm not so sure where the author's going with the whole Deven thing. I mean really, I've never liked him to begin with, but it's just ugh, how is story got played out. The whole story is weird. If they're mates, true mates, then what's with the extra feelings, desires, and people. Why? Why make your characters hormonal like that? sheesh... But, other than that, I thought it was a fun read.
