Présentation de l'éditeur

From the USA Today bestselling author of True, Sweet, and Believe comes a tantalizing New Adult novel about finding love in the most unexpected ways…

Kylie Warner prides herself on being optimistic, but after finding her best friend in bed with her boyfriend and flunking chemistry, her upbeat attitude has taken a dive. Even an impromptu hook-up with her sexy new chemistry tutor only brightens her mood slightly. After all, it’s not like she’ll ever see the tattooed scholar again…

While he’s a whiz at complex equations, Jonathon Kadisch has trouble when it comes to figuring out women. So when Kylie tells him that she’s pregnant after their night of passion, he’s at a complete loss. He’s prepared to be a good father—unlike his own deadbeat dad—but he’s less prepared to fall for the genuine and alluring blonde bearing his child.

With emotions running high, Kylie wonders if Jonathon’s devotion is out of growing love or looming obligation. And when heartbreak threatens to tear them apart, Jonathon will have to fight for the only girl who’s ever made him feel whole…

Wow! This is the fourth instalment of the True Believers series by this popular author and I think she has certainly surpassed all my expectations with this book. This series about new adults just keeps getting better with each book and it's lovely the way the friends each find happiness even if at first it looks as if all is hopeless. From pathos to passion, despair to hope, this book brings a wealth of emotions and at times it's startling just how much feeling the author imbues into her words . This story has everything you want in a romance but so much more as it's truly a coming of age story. Ms McCarthy has done a fabulous job and it would be an insane reader who did not pick up this book.

Kylie has always met life head on and has never really struggled but finding out her boyfriend cheated on her with one of her closest friends has quite simply ripped her apart. Kylie doesn't believe that she could feel any worse and when this story starts she is very much a victim. Kylie is by nature happy go lucky, confident and social but the recent events in her life have left her broken and it feels as if everything is just slipping away. Needing to get her grades back up she arranges to meet with a tutor but Jonathan is such an unexpected find. First off he's probably the cutest geek Kylie has ever seen and then there is the fact that he seems like a genuinely nice guy! They just seem to click on so many levels and one thing leads to another and what do you know Kylie has one night of truly amazing sex with Jonathan but realises that she probably won't ever see him again. Wrong!

Jonathan has his life all mapped out and he's more than just a student he's a really bright chemistry one with an amazing future ahead of him. Oh he realises that he's not exactly what every woman fantasises about but his one night of passion with the bubbly Kylie has left him questioning things. When Kylie reappears some weeks later and tells him that she's having his baby the bottom simply falls out of his world! To say he is astounded is too little, too simplistic, what Jonathan feels is a need so deep to be there for Kylie and their child that it's something he feels soul deep. Jonathan's own father was never interested in him but Jonathan is determined to be a better man . Luckily Kylie is a warm hearted woman who wants to give their child as much love and stability as Jonathan does and they try to work together at being the best parents they can possibly be.

Life is full of unexpected things and an unplanned baby is probably the biggest shock that anyone can face. Kylie might be young but she's full of maternal instincts but her attraction to Jonathan worries her. Can they ever make a go of things really? If they try will it end up with them hating each other? Jonathan seems to want Kylie but she is unsure if it's just his guilt that plagues him. He is without doubt a very mature and sensitive guy but pregnancy can bring many challenges and this young couple are about to discover just how hard life can really get!

I loved this story and even though it's probably not aimed at someone of my age a great story will always have me hooked. At the beginning we see Kylie as a victim but as we reach the conclusion her growth as a woman is a beautiful thing to read. Kylie was always an optimistic live wire throughout this series and indeed at times has seemed quite shallow but she has inner depths that truly shine and it's great to see her feelings of self worth grow. This book is titled Shatter but could equally be called Strength! Kylie is so very strong and as a woman I just want to hug her! The sexy ( and very giving!) Jonathan is just too perfect and at times I wasn't quite convinced but he won me over and his devotion to Kylie and their Celldividing Zygote was heartwarming! I mean come on ,how many guys google the ins and outs of pregnancy from blood production to lactating breasts and everything in between! Jonathan really reads as if he is a scientist with a thirst for knowledge and I applaud the author for all the detail that has gone into his character..

This story could have gone in so many different directions but I have to admit that the end was a little surprising. If you want to read about love and all the complexities associated with it then this book will blow your mind. I adored this couple and as I read recently that the author intended four books in this series I am a little sad to say goodbye to all these characters but for me Ms McCarthy has definately saved the best for last!

As in the previous books of the True Believer Series, the story isn't a love or hate story. It's more real life: messy, sad, happy, heartbreaking and joyous. Friendships aren't always wonderful and unconditionally supportive, sometimes there is betrayal and painful hurt from those you thought loved you. Erin McCarthy knows how to write this well.
Shatter features all the previous series characters and highlights Kylie and Jonathon. We know Kylie from the previous books as a loving and lovable optimist of a young woman. She has friends who are supportive, but also offer supportive criticism. It's not always fun having the mirror turned toward you. Jonathon enters the series as a slightly older nerdy grad student as a chemistry tutor for Kylie.
I especially enjoyed the narrative coming from both Kylie and Jonathon's point of view. You could feel the maturity difference between the two as well as the personal growth in both characters as the book moves forward. Shatter opens with Kylie having had her heart broken in book 3 and she is having a difficult time adjusting to what life has thrown at her. It's hard being the "half glass full" when you're sad, depressed, and adjusting to a suddenly single life brought on by betrayal. The attraction between these two opposites begins with loneliness and a need to connect to another person. It results in a perfect one time only connection. The consequences of that night come back with a vengeance, we see a lot of growing up and maturing in both characters. That one night effects not only Kylie and Jonathon, but the relationships of their families and friends as well.
It was refreshing seeing both characters come together as a team after much personal growth, both apart and together. Kylie didn't just snap out of it after being betrayed, it was hard work for her to understand both points of view. Kylie and Jonathon have to evaluate their relationship to each other and reevaluate it again after tragedy comes to them both.
I've read Erin McCarthy books for many years always knowing there will be laughter, some tears as well as romance. She obviously remembers the "new adult" age time of her life and she reminds me of my own. This is the fourth and final book in this series and we have watched all these characters grow from first year students to graduating college and starting their lives. I'm hoping Ms. McCarthy will revisit these characters in the future, but if not, she left them in a good place. I have enjoyed all of their stories.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 5 stars - "Shatter" by Erin McCarthy 3 septembre 2014

Shatter is the fourth installment to the True Believers series by Erin McCarthy and this by far is my favorite in the series. Erin McCarthy put me through the ringer in this book due to the character Kylie, and what she went through in the previous book and now this book. I wanted poor Kylie to get her HEA. She deserved every bit of it after finding out her jerk of a ex-boyfriend slept with her best friend. Unfortunately, Erin made the poor girl go through even more in Shatter and if Kylie was a real person, I would’ve hugged her like crazy. I’ll say it again…she deserved happiness.

Kylie had to made some serious changes in her life after finding out about what her ex-boyfriend did to her. Her best friends even noticed Kylie was going through a lot and were trying to help her. Her grades were dropping, so she had at least get help in chemistry by getting a tutor. She never thought her chemistry tutor would change her world upside down and make her see how she should be treated as a woman.

Jonathon Kadisch, aka Darwin is the sweetest chemistry whiz ever and I adored every bit of this young man. He would say things that made him seem like a jerk, but that is because he didn’t know how to react with Kylie. He never expected to hook up with something like her, but the instant they meet he can’t stop thinking about her. Jonathon is the guy who will stand up to for you and take care of you no matter what. Gosh…I could go on about him…but I’ll stop before I start gushing.

These two went through the a lot in this book, and I lost count on how many times I cried for these two. It felt like the universe was against them the whole entire time in Shatter because they had so many heartbreaking, tearjerking, crazy moments together. When there were happy moments with these two…let’s just say I was grinning ear to ear. Darwin and Kylie were so adorable together.

WARNING: Be prepared to have tissues on hand with this book. Erin McCarthy definitely upped it notch in this book with the emotions. Geez…every time I think about certain parts I still get teary-eyed.

Shatter has become my favorite in the series and Kylie and Jonathon are my favorite couple out of the bunch. Gosh darn it…I’m so happy that Kylie got her HEA…I can’t say it enough.

I give this book 5 full moons and highly recommend it to New Adult readers out there. Readers that have not read this series yet, you definitely need to. I definitely recommend reading in order. Erin has the previous characters in the book and you will be able to follow along better.

The ending of this book was perfect and Erin McCarthy did an amazing job with ALL of the characters in True Believers. I’m going to miss them because they definitely have become like family.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I bought this book day it came out. I was excited to read this opposites attract (genius tattooed hero and bubbly girlie girl heroine) unplanned pregnancy with someone I barely know New Adult Romance.

The book was going along great until the half way point. And then like so many New Adult books it had to take these conflicts and add in several more to make things much more over the top than they needed to be and limit the couple time to deal with the drama.

Bah. I like my romance about relationships and I lost that fun at this point in the novel. I can't tell you what the conflicts were because of spoilers but I didn't think either one was needed.

If you like more angst than a hospital waiting room, you might like the later parts of the plot. I did not. It just became overwrought for me.

While I am really enjoying this series I have to say that this wasn't my favorite book. I'm not sure if it was the lack of bad boy or Kylie, but it just wasn't there or me this time. Not to say I didn't enjoy it, because I did. Darwin was great he was nerdy but still hot and he was a really great catch. I just didn't feel as connected.

If I had to o again I'd probably wait for it to go on sale...
