After the grisly discovery of a mutilated body, the small community of Greenville is held in the terrifying grip of a serial killer.

Biographie de l'auteur

Although he's travelled the world, and seen much of life, Jones prefers to be sat in the quiet of his home with his laptop, writing. His fictions are set in places which mirror his homeland, and much of his inspiration is drawn from his surroundings. Karl draws on his teen years in Bournemouth, with its quiet village-like suburbs, and bustling town centre, and he uses these settings to bring his books to life. His thrillers stories stem from the darkest depths of his mind, however, his tales of space stretch further than your imagination can take you, and you find yourself spiralling out of control into the imaginary universes he creates as you turn the pages faster than warp-speed in order to delve further into his story. With a bibliography which spans many genres, including amongst them thrillers and romances as well as tales of the paranormal, you're never going to be short on choice for reading material, because never sleeping, Karl writes from dusk 'til dawn, and occasionally even through 'til morn' to bring his eager readers the latest instalments from his sought-after, bestselling stories.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A great first novel :) 2 janvier 2012

A very enjoyable read. Violence, murders, suspense, and a story that made me suspect more or less every single character without really knowing who was guilty until the big reveal. Ticked all the boxes as to how a book should be according to me !
It is extremely well written, and I really liked the fact that the book kind of "adopted" the pace of the plot throughout the murder enquiry, guiding the reader through slower and faster paced sections depending on what was going on.
Book is extremely well written, and a pleasure to read. For a first novel, it's a great start :)

Author Jason Denton discovers a body while on his morning run, and puts himself in the crosshairs of a policeman bent on proving him guilty of the crime. A newcomer to the small village, he makes a convenient target. As more bodies pile up, the excessive savagery of the murders convinces the policeman he must stop Denton at any cost. This account is also a treatise on the fallibility of the justice system and how easy it is to destroy an innocent person.

The story is well-written, but the murders are very violent and described in an extremely graphic manner (which may disturb some people). Cleverly plotted and executed, with fully developed characters and believable dialog, fast-paced and engrossing, it will keep you turning pages to see what happens next. A suspenseful, shocking story - read it with the lights on.

This is my first read from this author. I found it fast moving and very graphic in places. A good read despite the many 'typos' in the book.

Although I enjoyed the concept of the story, there were places where it seemed the author just threw things in and left them hang. For instance the medical examiner mentioned that he got good prints off of a body and they should be easy to match. Yet, that is that last time we hear about them and we are still waiting for dna results.
And there never is a clear conclusion to the story. It just kind of ends in mid air.
Might be time for the author to do a rewrite.

I would have expected better from someone who has been writing for as long as Karl Jones. I read this story, yes, all of it, in the hope that the hype was right and I would enjoy every word. Sadly, I have been left disapppointed. Although the story does contain some violence and 'scenes of a sexual nature', it was about as exciting to read as a soggy, sand filled sandwich is to eat!

It is with further displeasure I have learned, and researched to confirm, that Karl Jones is currently awaiting trial for child porn offences. And having read several of his works, I think perhaps a little too much of his real life is finding it's way into his books, perhaps in an attempt to justify the actions of a sick man by glorifying them in a series of stories. Who knows? Whatever the case, this work, Shattered, is not the masterpeice it has been made out to be, and comparing Karl Jones to authors like James Patterson is utterly ludicrous.

It is obvious that Mr Jones wants to be a writer of some distinction, but at present, he has a long way to go.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Just not that good... 8 mai 2013

I'm very surprised this book has so many great reviews. It wasn't horrible, but it is not worth five stars by any stretch of the imagination. The book is absolutely full of punctuation errors, grammatical errors and misspelled words. It must have been edited by a child. The story was weak and generally lacking any quality. None of the characters had much depth or likability. The "descriptive language" was laughably silly and repetitive. "The schoolgirl, the teen, the writer."
I got this book for free so the only loss was that of my time. I've read worse, but I can't say I'd recommend it. It was okay. I don't think I'd care to read this author again.

This book could have been penned by a 12 year old.  It's amateurish prose, lack of sophistication and plot leave the reader wishing for a strong cup of coffee and a newspaper.

The lack of punctuation really made this annoying.
The ending of this book, the way it just abruptly ended was just terrible. Possibly the worst ending I have ever read. I was so mad. "doing as he suggested"? Really? Awful ending.....I won't be reading anymore from this author in the near future...
