(A re-imagining of my young adult book, The Fallen Star, told as a New Adult Paranormal. You can download the young adult version, The Fallen Star, for free on Amazon.)

For twenty-one year-old Gemma, life has never been normal. She knows nothing about her past and has been haunted by the same monsters in her nightmares for the last few months. Unemotional and numb to life, she feels disconnected from everyone. Until the very first day she cries. After that, nothing in her life is the same.

Her emotions slowly surface and she starts experiencing love, happiness, and anger, feelings she never knew existed. But they leave her confused and she doesn’t know whether to embrace them or run away from them.

Her life only gets more complicated when she meets Alex. Sexy, arrogant, and secretive, Alex can get under Gemma’s skin like no one can. Yet she’s drawn to him by an invisible connection she has no control over. She’s also seen him before. In her nightmares.

Every part of Gemma’s mind is screaming at her to stay away from Alex, but every other part of her is begging to get close to him. But the closer she gets, the more she realizes Alex knows more about her than he originally let on.

As secrets about her past unravel, Gemma’s life becomes threatened. She needs to figure out what’s going on, before she winds up dead. But the only person she can turn to for answers is the one person she isn’t sure she can trust.

"This book blew me away! The story is so unique and the characters are fantastic." --Confessions of a Bookaholic

"Shattered Promises is like nothing I have read before from Ms. Sorensen. I adored The Secret of Ella & Micha, I devoured The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden, and now I am completely in love with Shattered Promises."-- Jessica's Book Review

This is the first book by Jessica Sorensen I've read - so I haven't read the original YA version of this book, and even though most reviews say you don't need to read them first, I can't help but feel like I was missing something. But really, that's not even the main problem.

What. The. Heck. This was the most erratic book I've ever read. All over the place erratic. Vampires, werewolves, fairies, keepers, forseers, angels, demons, death walkers...I mean, what??? Pick a supernatural creature and stick with it!! Its like the author was trying to get all her ideas down on paper before she forgot them all and therefore never really finished a complete thought...or plot line...or sentence. Honestly, several times Gemma makes a point to tell Alex to stop beating around the bush, or tiptoeing around his explanation and I wanted to be able to tell the author the same thing. I have never been so frustrated reading a book...and NO, not the good kind of frustration. Even the intimate parts of the book were alarming because there was sure a lot of teeth crashing, and lip biting and blood drawing and frantic ripping and pulling and none of it in a good way...I seriously wanted to step in and give these two a little advice about how to kiss and make out without hurting each other. I don't know...I didn't get it. I don't know what all these 4 star reviewers were reading...just not my cup of tea.

and then ending. seriously WTF?

here it is in a nutshell

"okay Gemma give me five minutes to finally explain the point of this whole book and why I totally seemed like I kicked you to the curb for the 8 millionth time, only to have you pass out convinced you were dying, for the 4 millionth time, only to have you wake up in an unfamiliar room/bed/state for the 5 millionth time, and if you don't like what I say you can leave"

what??????????????????????? What a freakin' tease. I wouldn't read the next one if you paid me.

I bought this a while ago and was really looking forward to reading it based on all of the 5 star reviews. It sat in my library for a while before I actually started to read it. I wish i had waited to purchase so I could have read all of the 1 star reviews because I completely agree with them. This book is truly awful. I have to admit that I didn't even finish reading the book and that is rare for me. i almost always have an obsessive need to finish a book I start, but this book just couldn't hold my interest. Plus, let's not ignore the fact that the plot was completely stolen from an old episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a also partially from the Disney movie "Tangled". The story was awful and I couldn't connect with the lame and unappealing characters.

I usually feel bad when I bag on a book, but I really feel like it is deserved here. Trust me, do not waste your time or money on this one. I wish I hadn't.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Jessica Sorensen + Paranormal + New Adult = Equals the Trifecta of Awesomness!!! 27 février 2013
Par Delphina - Publié sur Amazon.com

This book is absolutely amazing! Jessica has taken a story I adore, kicked it up a notch and then turned it on it's head. I love that this is a NA paranormal read. It is like a little gift wrapped bundle of my favorite things. Here are ten random reasons why I think this book is made of amazing topped with awesomesauce and sprinkled with spectacular:

1) It is an "I can not put this book down and if you even think about asking me to then you should be very afraid" book.

2) There is a scene so hot in this book that I was afraid my Kindle would melt.

3) All bets are off. Everything you thought you knew about the Fallen Star means nothing. In a great way!

4) Laylen... oh yes, Lalen is back and oh so much better than before ;)

5) Nicholas .... I know another one name reason, but it is such a different reason then Laylen. You need to just trust me on this one.

6) As awesome as The Fallen Star series is, you can only reread it so many times before you want to know more. I should know. I have reread each book before the next one came out.

7) New Adult Para!!! Yep, that is the whole reason right there. I think this is a genre with a huge void. We need more.

8) Jessica Sorensen wrote it. I do not know about you, but if she wrote a self help book about the best ways to watch paint dry, I would read it. Why? Because everything I have read of hers is amazing and I have read it all.

9) All the things you wish had happened in The Fallen Star, but knew could not happen because it was YA are now a possibility!

1o) You do not have to know a think about the Fallen Star series to become completely and utterly sucked into this book and the world Jessica has created.

I highly recommend this book and am anxiously waiting for more books in this series. The characters seem almost real to me and the story is hot, filled with adventure, and unique. It is the perfect blend of new adult and paranormal. Being new adult, I highly suggest you be at least 17 plus before you read this book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 wonderful re-imagining of the Fallen Star 27 février 2013

Jessica Sorensen's re-imagining of the Fallen Star Series was like reading a whole new book. The series was perfect. I enjoyed the series immensely. The story was so unique. Now adding Alex and Gemma a few years older was so intriguing. This series has so much to do with discovering and understanding your feelings, that it was a real hit for me. I was introduced to these characters in a new light. Alex and Gemma were able to pursue their feelings in a whole new way.
Some of the scenes were pretty intense. Especially the dream/visions of Gemma and Alex. I was pretty excited for these because I knew we would get to relive them again a second time. The writing was mature and tasteful. I was all but swooning for Alex, even more the second time around. Gemma was honest, mature, and trustworthy. I loved these two. I really felt what these two were going through. So many questions were unanswered that only Alex could answer for her. What they shared was so wonderful.
This book was as perfect as it gets. I can't wait to see what happens with the other books. If it is anything like the first book in the re-imagining, I bet it will be amazing. This was such a wonderful new concept. It really was like reading a whole new book. Which I think says so much about Jessica's writing. I was on the edge of my seat unable to put it down. These characters opened my eyes again to their amazing journey. And I know this just the beginning for their adventure.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 OK - WHAT THE HECK???? 15 mars 2014

This was one of the most confusing books I've ever read...and it still ended in a cliffhanger that had me scratching my head. Not a very well defined plot, world, or mythos. Also, the random scenes where the protagonist sees as "visions" or dreams, they didn't make much sense to the plot. For the most part, this book still lives inside the author's head.
