"I simply couldn't put it down..." ( reviewer)

"This is an awesome read...another unputdownable book from Hugh Howey..." ( reviewer)

"This is a fantastic story..." ( reviewer)

"We have been mesmerised with Hugh Howey's silo stories since we first laid eyes on book one in the trilogy ... We'd recommend reading Wool first but you'll want to have this one ready as we guarantee you'll be unable to put it down. Perfect sunshine reading, wouldn't you say?" (Grazia Daily)

"Brilliantly written...Howey creates a starkly believable and terrifying apocalypse. More and more layers of the dystopian world are unveiled, enticingly paving the way for the sequel Dust..." (Sunday Express)

I was really absorbed by this second part of the trilogy. So many questions from "Wool" kept me reading and searching for answers. The plot is well laid, although some may find it difficult to follow with all the jumps in time. I didn't though, I actually thought it was great!

As with "Wool" this book is easy to read (not over complicated), keeps you hooked and manages to surprise you again and again (mind you, I'm not talking of major twists on the story but consistent ones that spice up the whole experience). Characters continue to be well developed despite the fact that they multiply.

In general, I'm happy I read this and won't forget the experience. I give it a 4-star, because as a whole it's a fresh read and it's absorbing, and I loved it. I gave a 5-star to "Wool" (because of it's originality).

OK the trilogy is not Asimov, Bradbury, Vonnegut, Herbert's "Dune" or Simmonss "Hyperion" but it's a very good contender for a modern sci-fi masterpiece! Great work Howey!

OK, this is three smaller books in the one volume and covers the periods before the events in the first novel, 'Wool'. It explains it well.

It takes a while to get into the characters, as the timeline hops all over the place and only the chapter headings tell you what year you are in, and I found that initially confusing and found myself finding the start of the chapter to check the year. It would have helped if the chapter year was in a small footer on each page?

Some of the 'problems' in a particular Silo are somewhat glossed over, while others go into great detail. Again there is a lot of climbing up and down Silo levels but that is minimised compared to the first book. The sequences where an individual comes out of the frozen state were quite harrowing and drew a very clear picture for the reader.

I can see that these WOol series books are going to get a loyal cult following. I am set to join and will grab the next one.

Do be careful in what you are buying, as I see the three Novellas of this book are actually sold on Amazon as individual stories. While it is important to read these 'Shift' books in the correct order and although 'Wool' is the first and this prequal is meant to be second, maybe reading them in the actual timeline order would not hurt, but it may take away the "what the hell happened here" aspects in 'Wool'.

I really enjoyed this book. I was a little confused at the swap between the different times in the first few swaps but it didn't take long to work that out. When I did I really enjoyed it. Thank you.

This is a well written story and an interesting concept of what man perhaps could be capable of and basic human relationships.

Another belting book from Howey. The time and thought that has gone into this series is obviously immense as the intricate story and timelines are tied together seamlessly. It provides an interesting juxtaposition to 'Wool' which has kept me thinking for days on end...

This is a new Author for me and I enjoyed this Book immensely.

The premise is both interesting and disturbing which makes it a great read.

That people and politicians could really come to believe they have the right to undertake such an action to destroy a Nation and its People is a very frightening thought.

But what is more concerning is they have both the power and ability to do so.

That concept is what really gives this book a big BANG and a taste of reality.

Shift lays out a good basis for understanding the Story line and conceptualization of what is to come in the other two Books.
