Présentation de l'éditeur

After barely surviving a shootout in New Orleans, Sidewinder medic Kelly Abbott has to suffer through a month of recovery before he can return home to Colorado. He’s not surprised when fellow Sidewinder Nick O’Flaherty stays with him in New Orleans. Nor is he surprised when Nick travels home with him to help him get back on his feet—after all, years on the same Marine Force Recon team bonded the men in ways that only bleeding for a brother can. He’s very surprised, though, when Nick humors his moment of curiosity and kisses him.

Nick knows all of Kelly’s quirks and caprices, so the kiss was a low-risk move on his part . . . or so he thought. But what should’ve been a simple moment unleashes a flood of confusing emotions and urges that neither man is prepared to address.

Now, Kelly and Nick must figure out what they mean to each other—friends and brothers in arms, or something even deeper?—before the past can come back to ruin their tenuous future.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Start to this Cut & Run Spin-Off Series 5 novembre 2013
Par Sophia Rose - Publié sur
"I'm not under the influence anymore. Much. Even if I was, I've done things way worse than you that I've never regretted."
Nick barked out a laugh and they both began to chuckle. Suddenly the tension was gone again and it was just the Devil Doc across from him once more.
Shock & Awe Quote by Kelly to Nick

Excited is an understatement when it comes to any new release in the Cut & Run world. In this case, its the first book in an offshoot series that focuses on Ty's brothers in arms The Sidewinders. Though it is the beginning of a new series, it can't be read in isolation and should be read following 'Touch & Geaux' because it takes up right after that one ended just with the focus shifting to a couple of the secondary characters of which one has been a recurring character through several of the Cut & Run series books. This story focuses on Nick O'Flaherty and Kelly Abbott.

Nick helps get Kelly home and helps him with his after care from the healing bullet wound Kelly received trying to protect Nick's life in the last mission. They are really close and tight after years of serving together and know each other better than anyone else knows them. But after Nick's big confessions in the last book, Kelly starts to see things with Nick in a whole new light and Nick isn't far behind him in noticing that things between them have altered.

Things turn into a sexually intense game of cat and mouse as Kelly tries to convince Nick that he's healthy enough for a romp between the sheets and then Kelly really rolls the dice when he tries to pin the commit-o-phobe Nick into letting what is happening between them stand a chance. Reality comes knocking even to their Colorado mountain cabin and may end the fragile beginning between them before it even gets started.

A secondary short follow up story called Bait & Switch added more to the above story and gave a peek in with the Ty & Zane situation.

This one got right down to it with Kelly & Nick. They know each other well and as a recurring of the series they are not unknown to the reader so it is easy to dive right in with them. Kelly wants to explore things with Nick and he is honest and communicates what he wants openly. Nick, on the other hand, wants Kelly just as bad, but he shies away from going all in and doesn't communicate well with words- man of action type.
There is tension from this and it was good stuff. There is also sweltering heat generated between these two guys and it stays pretty steaming hot for most of the story. Nick is one rough and tough, but passionate, caring and tender alpha. Kelly is right there with him and gives Nick the feeling of trust and safety that he has never had with anyone else.
And if you're like me and go all sniffly at those 'good-bye at the airport don't know if I'll see you again' scenes then keep a tissue handy.

Though this was a shorty, it checked off all the right boxes with me. I definitely recommend it for all the Cut & Run series fans, but I strongly encourage those who enjoy strong, humorous, gritty and spicy m/m Romantic Suspense to get busy and read these.

My Review:
Without a doubt, this was one of the hottest, most romantic, best m/m stories I have ever read. I am a huge fan of the Cut & Run series so I knew both these characters before this, so that may make this book work even more for me. This is a beautifully told friends to lovers or gay for you romance.

Kelly has never been gay. Never. Never even had an inkling that direction. He's always been with and enjoyed women, but when his best friend Nick came out a year ago, it threw him for a loop. Almost dying for Nick threw him for another one and now the curiosity won't let him go. He's looking at his best friend differently and isn't sure what to do with that. Now Nick is taking care of him after he's come home from the hospital, he's doped up on some powerful pain medications, and the filter is gone. And things get INCREDIBLY HOT from there. Oh my!!

But it's not just about the exploration. This book is about two friends that love each other desperately and not in a sexual way. Kelly threw himself in front of a bullet that would have killed Nick and it almost killed Kelly. They are soulmates in so many more ways than just physical. They know each other...their flaws, their problems, and they call each other on their crap when one or the other starts to pull back. They know what the other is thinking all the time. They are perfect together in every single way. This story is one of those that was just perfect...seriously. Perfect chemistry. Perfect everything. I love Kelly and Nick together.

The story is amazing, gorgeous, so freaking romantic (the quotes you could pull out of this, these guys have some lines to melt your heart), and it's HOT! I highly, highly recommend it and cannot wait for the next one!!! Come on, Abigail Roux, write faster.....

3.0 étoiles sur 5 PWP gap-filler 10 novembre 2013

I bought the e-book through publisher and read it yesterday. This is little more than PWP and a GFY centered around Nick and Kelly, members of the Sidewinder team from the Cut & Run series. Kelly's been shot and nearly killed, and Nick is taking care of him at his cabin. Of course, they have sex. Kelly's just one day out of the hospital after almost dying and can barely sit on his own, but he can get up to wild shenanigans in bed. There is some nice background stuff about their friendship, but it felt like too much retconning to justify throwing these two characters together. I like everything not directly related to the Nick/Kelly stuff, but that was pretty lean. A rare miss for Miss Roux.

This was literally 3 sex scenes wrapped around 2 angst scenes.

So disappointed in this. I LOVE Nick he's my favorite character in the Cut & Run series so far and I was expecting so much more. I new it wasn't going to be amazing because it was only 100 pages (not even half the length of most Cut & Run books but more than half the price) but this is ridiculous. I wanted a story/an actual plot. There is a page worth of plot towards the end but short of that there is nothing going on here. The 2 stars are for Nick and Kelly themselves because the characters are great but this is absolutely not worth 4 buck. It's just Fanfiction.

I really enjoyed reading this novella, which is saying a lot because I tend not to love shorter reads, mostly in part because many authors who write them try and tell you an entire novel length story in very few words and that doesn't usually work. Josh Lanyon and Jordan Castillo Price are two authors who can tell you a story that packs a punch in a shorter work, and I'm happy to say that I would put Abigail Roux on that list as well.

This story takes place over a few days after Touch and Geaux (#7 of the Cut and Run series), and is followed by the short story Bait & Switch which is a single day a few months later. It's a friends to lovers story done extremely well IMO.

What made it stand out for me was the great dialogue/banter between the characters Nick and Kelly. I enjoyed getting to know them better after meeting them in the Cut and Run series. I can also honestly say that they in no way reminded me of Ty and Zane or any of Ms Roux's characters in her other stories. So often I've found authors write characters that are reminiscent of others they have written, they talk alike, look alike, etc. There are a number of authors I've stopped reading because of this, where the prose and internal thoughts of the characters sound like the author themselves (can tell from their blogs), or the dialogue is stale and recycled from book to book. Not so here. These characters are different and full of life, and I enjoyed the witty banter/dialogue, rapport, back story, and scorching chemistry between them. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to more about them.
