Présentation de l'éditeur

Coming soon: a newly rejacketed edition of the 2007 novel Silver Bay by Jojo Moyes, the bestselling author of Me Before You and two-time winner of the RNA Novel of the Year award.

Liza McCullen will never escape her past. But the unspoilt beaches and tight-knit community of Silver Bay offer the freedom and safety she craves - if not for herself, then for her young daughter, Hannah.

Until Mike Dormer arrives as a guest in her aunt's hotel, and the peace of Silver Bay is shattered. The mild-mannered Englishman with his too-smart clothes and disturbing eyes could destroy everything Liza has worked so hard to protect: not only the family business and the bay that harbours her beloved whales, but also her conviction that she will never love - never deserve to love - again.

I've never been disappointed yet with a book from Jojo Moyes. Happy ends granted, even if always with surprises until the last chapter.

the only problem with this book: is once you started reading it there is no way you can stop. So you'd better not be overwhelmed by work or domestic tasks. Order it and enjoy

4.0 étoiles sur 5 An Absorbing and Entertaining Read 25 juillet 2012
Par Stuart Aken - Publié sur
Jojo Moyes has produced a superb piece of modern fiction in Silver Bay. Set mostly in Australia, with some action taking place in London, UK, the story deals with the effects of threatened development on the tranquil eponymous location of the title. But it is the relationships and interactions of the protagonists that drive this story of tragedy, romance, coming of age and redemption.

Presented in 3 parts, with a short prologue and epilogue, Jojo uses first person narration by five of the major characters, four female and one male, to explore emotional, motivational, mental and spiritual aspects of her protagonists. Her research has clearly been thorough and the novel displays the author's deep knowledge of the subjects she uses for theme and background. The book starts slowly but builds relentlessly until the denouement is reached in a way unflagged and unexpected.

This was a book I would have read at one sitting, had I been able. As it is, my life being a little hectic at present, I was obliged to fit in reading between many other commitments. It's testament to the quality of the writing and storytelling that I found myself looking forward to my occasional bus journeys, as they are opportunities to read. Normally I dislike this necessary part of my working day, but I was eager to get on that bus and have the chance to read. In fact, had I not finished the book shortly before the end of my journey, I suspect I'd have missed my stop.

Jojo has drawn her characters with skill, care, and love. This is appropriate, since the love stories that run through the narrative form a major thread of the tale. Each passage is in the voice of the chosen character and the author manages to make each unique and totally credible. She has managed to get as squarely inside the mind of her male characters as she has her females.

The main setting for the book, Silver Bay itself, performs the role of an additional character and the reader is immersed in the tranquil location to the extent that he feels all the anxiety, fear, resentment and disgust at proposals that will alter the place beyond recognition. Wales and dolphins, and the occasional shark, play interesting and informative roles along the way.

I thoroughly enjoyed this moving novel and have no hesitation in recommending it to readers of all types.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Rich, memorable characters 13 mai 2014

Another absolute must read by Jojo Moyes, author of ME BEFORE YOU and many other excellent novels.

From the moment you begin this novel, the multiple characters narrating SILVER BAY will pull you into their story and keep you guessing. They'll fill your mind with images of Silver Bay, they'll teach you that people can be transformed, and they'll make you long for an Australian vacation to watch the magnificent whales and dolphins in the secluded bay with a rundown hotel. You may even be able to get a taste of an ice-cold beer and smell the salty air.

This is so much more than a love story. There are multi-dementions and angles to the story. There are multi-generations that give their perspectives, each one adding their pieces to the whole for a richer, more interesting tale.

I can't even begin to sing the praises of Jojo Moyes and her incredible storytelling talent. It's bloody brilliant. Prepare to have a few kleenexes on hand. Prepare to fall in love with Mike and Liza, and Aunt Kathleen and Nino, and even the dog Milly. Most of all, eleven-year-old Hannah will grab ahold of your heart and keep you wondering about her life, not as it is now, but what it will be ten years from now. If you're like me, you'll want to think about her and her family and friends and Silver Bay and the future.

There is NOTHING Jojo Moyes writes that I can't or won't rave about to anyone who'll listen. You might as well put all her books on your to-read list, that is, if you haven't done so already!

I normally like Jo Jo's books, but this didn't cover my expectations. The end was very foreseable, the story was good, but it jumped around from character to character too often and there was no real engagement with any of them.

I have just recently started reading Jojo Moyes books and I find them an excellent read.
Full of good story lines, well researched factoids and interesting enough to not want to put the books down.
I am looking forward to reading the rest of the titles that are piling up on my side table

I've loved all the other Jojo Moyes books I've read but hated this. Just couldn't seem to get into it. Had no connection to the characters, the story wasn't believable- spoiler alert- how does confessing to your child's death save the whales?!?!?! Didn't enjoy this book 1 bit. Forced myself to finish it but skimmed the last few chapters just to get through it.
