I picked this up today for a friend - I HAD to buy it for her (at full price)> I flipped through it briefly - This is NOT a good book for the home cook who simply wants some newer or more interesting every day recipes. This is a good book for the foodie who enjoys reading cookbooks or who is adventurous enough and has the means to cook from the recipes. Patricia Wells succeeded in her objective: to create a book dedicated to uplifting the truffle in all its complex and nuanced glory. The recipes are all excellent - and easy to follow. Not complex in the least save for the expense of the truffle.

I like the book, but in truth the recipes are pretty much standard fare with someone dumping truffles on top. A sizeable portion of egg dishes and lots of cheese topped with truffles. I'm not impressed because the recipes are not really recipes that use truffles as much as they are recipes that are topped or finished with truffles.
While in culinary school, each group got a single can of truffle pieces. 36.00 per can. It actually goes a long way. We were able to make several different dishes with one can. I was hoping that this book had truffle dishes.
We had two tablespoons left in our can so for lunch we made tuna fish sandwiches for the restaurant (60); sold out in a blink. The flavor that the black truffle adds to any dish is really quite profound. I believe that everyone should try them at least once in their lifetime.

If you can pick up a used copy of this book for a few dollars, might prove a good buy. But in all honesty there are plenty free tried and true recipes on the internet. You might want to start there first.

This book also has interesting reads on the history of truffles. For me there are two recipes I'm going to add to my collection ad then donate the book to the local library for their book sales. Since I only paid 2.00 for the book I can say I'm happy with the purchase.

What a beautiful book. The recipes look simple enough for me to use. But it is the story of truffles in the market place and in the lives of the people who find them and sell them that is fascinating. This is a gift book for people who love truffles.

A small selection of utterly fabulous recipes. Makes you want to book a flight to France or Italy IMMEDIATELY ! I never used to understand what all the excitement was about with Truffles but I guess my palate has developed enough to finally GET it. Now if I live long enough to enjoy a FRESH Truffle....

Bought a copy for myself and also for my mom as a present. I also sent my mom a very small amount of minced truffle at the same time. My parents were thrilled which made me happy. We were amazed at the information in this book. A very interesting read.
