Présentation de l'éditeur

Rob Brydon tells story of his slow ascent to fame and fortune in Small Man in a Book.

A multi-award-winning actor, writer, comedian and presenter known for his warmth, humour and inspired impressions, Rob Brydon has quickly become one of our very favourite entertainers. But there was a time when it looked like all we'd hear of Rob was his gifted voice.

Growing up in South Wales, Rob had a passion for radio and soon the Welsh airwaves resounded to his hearty burr. However, these were followed by years of misadventure and struggle, before, in the TV series Marion and Geoff and Gavin and Stacey, Rob at last tickled the nation's funny bone. The rest, as they say, is history. Or in his case autobiography.

Small Man in a Book is Rob Brydon's funny, heartfelt, honest, sometimes sad, but mainly funny, memoir of how a young man from Wales very, very slowly became an overnight success.

Rob Brydon was brought up in Wales, where his career began on radio and as a voiceover artist. After a brief stint working for the Home Shopping Network he co-wrote and performed in his breakthrough show, the darkly funny Human Remains. He has since starred in the immensely popular Gavin and Stacey, Steve Coogan's partner in The Trip, and was the host of Would I Lie to You? and The Rob Brydon Show. He now lives in London with his wife and five children.

Rob Brydon captures his life as a young child and teenager in Wales in the most evocative way. I loved the references to 80's music and bands, and the influence they had on him as a young person, it was imagery that we can all relate to. He depicts his family in the warmest way, and it was lovely to be able to share that experience.

His humour is woven throughout the story, always subtle and engaging. A great read I would recommend to anyone born in the 60's.

This book may be the first of its kind with audio and video imbedded in many of it's pages. It appears it was not encoded properly by Amazon. It won't download on my Ipad. The Kindle is fine but of course won't do the audio or video. Please fix this!

Update: Got an email from Amazon saying how sorry they were and their tech's would look into it and get it fixed in 5 or 6 business days. Thanks.

Rob Brydon would have to be one of the funniest, most personable people on this planet & whilst this book is not always laugh out loud funny, it is an enjoyable read & one that I would recommend highly.

Rob's story so far, shows the ordinary person that everyone starts out as ordinary & it's what they do with their lives that makes them extraordinary. Rob's determination & tenacity allowed him to keep going when other people may have thrown in the towel & gotten a "normal" job. I first saw Rob in a TV series called "Supanova", which is where this book ends, so it was great to find out about his beginnings.

Apparently written because someone said, "Write a biography Rob, every comedian is doing it." This story is dull because... nothing happens. Rob Bryden has a comfortable and happy childhood - read all about it. There is very little insight into what makes him tick and it left me wondering where his inspiration comes from.
I think the title is very telling and an analogy for the whole book. There is no reference to the small man in the box in the book but it has obviously been assumed that everybody knows about it so it's ok to reference it, or if you like, trade on it. Similarly, Rob Bryden is famous. Therefore It doesn't matter if the book isn't very good, you can trade on his fame to sell it. Mad if you don't. Too harsh?
