Présentation de l'éditeur

The Final Conquest

Following the assassination of Emperor Gaius Caligula in 41 A.D., his uncle, Claudius, assumed the imperial throne. After establishing his legitimacy and stabilizing his position with the Roman Senate and people, he looks to legitimize himself militarily. His eyes turn towards Britannia; the elusive isle that even Julius Caesar failed to conquer.

Far from being unknown to the rest of the world, various Britannic peoples have maintained trade relations with the continent, and a few of the tribal kingdoms have even formed alliances with Rome that extend back decades. Constant warfare, however, has left the isle in a state of perpetual instability. When several allies call upon Rome for assistance in their volatile struggles, Claudius seizes the opportunity to finish what the Divine Julius started almost a hundred years before.

In Ostia, Centurion Artorius spends his days as a police commissioner, while only holding an honorary posting with the legions. Soon after Claudius’ ascension, however, he is recalled to active service with his former legion, the Twentieth Valeria, where his peers proclaim him as the new master centurion. It has been generations since the empire expanded its borders via conquest, and Artorius readies his men to spearhead a massive invasion force in what he knows will be his last campaign.

The Last Campaign is a perfect end to an amazing series. I couldn't put the book down. I look forward Mr. Mace's next book and series! I hope that James brings himself to come back to this time period in the future. His knowledge and love for the Roman Legionary make for on the edge of your seat, page turning books!!!

Once again, WELL DONE!!

The soldier of Rome series contained enough humanity mixed with the violence of that turbulent time period mostly in the character of Artorious to keep me wanting more and more. As a retired military man I can appreciate the demands and discipline required to maintain order against numerically superior numbers. I also appreciate the commorarderie that existed between the characters and their place in history.

The book brings great satisfaction to a Roman military enthusiast, like me. James Mace has woven a great tale based upon historical fact.

This is the sixth and last of Mr. Mace's Artorian Chronicles - stories of a career Roman soldier, his friends, loves, and their loss, along with riveting accounts of battles.

Me. Mace has used his experience as a combat-experienced senior U.S. Army noncommissioned officer very well to bring to life the trials, disappointments, and horror Roman Legionaries would have experienced.

As an Army veteran, I sympathize with the plights and politics of military service that he has his characters experience.

Mr. Mace's research include visits to study terrain and recent archaeological discoveries. This is readily apparent when reading his riveting battle stories that include place-names used in Britain during the First Century.

As a new author, James is struggling to find good editors. He is even rewriting some of his books to publish second editions where grammar and spelling is much improved.

For those who want to some perspective into
the minds of our military heroes will avidly devour Mr. Mace's books, regardless of any editing issues that they may encounter.

James Mace has completed the Artorian Chronicles in an outstanding fashion. This great conclusion to the series has Master Centurian battling the Britons as Rome sets out the conquer Britannia. If you've read the rest of the series, you'll want to complete the tale. If you haven't, go to the first and enjoy the Artorian Chronicles.

I enjoyed this last book in the Artorius saga. The story of the conquest of Brittania was well written. I will miss the late night's with this series
