This book really gave me a strong insight about why so many people suffer from depression: depression is an Occidental word to give a name to spiritual imbalances that we try to "cure" mostly with mental reasonings with a therapist, but in reality they point out that we need a pause to look inside to our self and not to our ego, that our soul is fragmented, that some parts of it are "missing" or "disturbed" by misplaced energies. The role of a shaman is crucial to heal the soul, to make it whole again.
From p.200: "It is the role of the shaman to identify the spiritual nature of the illness and its location in the body. Once this is known, the shaman removes the illness by "sucking" it out of the body. This is called a shamanic extraction."

A Classic In My Library 29 janvier 2007
Par Louisa - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
How do I begin a review of the one book out of thousands that I have read, that marked the most dramatic healing journey of my life? Until this book whispered to me from the second shelf in a holistic center in Huntington back in the early '90s, I had done a virtual sleep-walk through my days. I had even remarked to a friend that up until that point, my whole life had been a near-death experience.

I was working in the book department of Body, Mind & Soul holistic center on Route 110, and had begun studying shamanism with a local teacher, after a series of mystical experiences that had left me terrified and shaking. I needed training, that was sure, because I needed to understand this path I was being called to. And I also needed healing; I needed to have my soul parts returned to me.

When I opened this book to the checklist of soul loss symptoms, I saw every reason that I had always felt so lost and frightened, and at the same time somehow deadened inside. There had been long periods of time wherein colors were so dull they had almost appeared grey-black. There were periods of my childhood I had blocked out entirely.

At this time I was being trained to do shamanic journeying, and one night I was guided to retrieve my own soul. I actually had to check with a shaman who I was later to work with, to understand what this intense experience had been about. She confirmed what I already knew in my heart.

Later that year, I went to her to have 3 more parts returned to me.

Reading this book by Sandra Ingerman helped me to realize that gathering my soul was the necessary path I would begin to take, and that I would continue until I had achieved wholeness. This book was invaluable on the brave journey I needed to begin; there was no paradigm in my world up to this point for what I was about to embark upon, I knew I would just have to trust that I had been led to the right place, the right book, the right teachers.

The book is simple, straightforward, and the poetry is lovely. If you pick up a copy of this book, and know in your heart that it is time to reclaim your soul, please find a trustworthy healer, and begin your journey to wholeness. But do read this book first, so you will know what to expect, and what to look forward to.

The experiences I had following my own soul retrievals became the focus of my own recently published book. My goal was to bring you with me on the journey, so you would know you are never alone on your own path. From all the wonderful feedback I have received so far, I know in my heart that I achieved what I set out to do.

I cannot thank Sandra Ingerman enough for this precious book that helped me to achieve a richer, more vibrant, and amazingly magical life. The gifts that are waiting for you are even better than you can imagine.

From my Heart,
Louise Teresa StrongBear, author of: Journey By Night: A Solitary Journey

Reading this book is an AHA experience. 25 août 2009

I give this book 5 stars, but I can not get the system to list it with 5 stars. I can not change the amount of stars, but you know everything happens for a reason; maybe the wrong rating will encourage more readers of this review.
This book is a God send to anyone who has been struggling with depression. self esteem issues, or a feeling of loss or incompleteness in their life. It gives insight as to how this method of healing works so quickly and completely where years of counseling may not seem to be effective and why. I believe all readers will be able to benefit from the information in this book and that information will change their lives; especially if they continue on this journey to self discovery. If you are tired of conventional treatments for emotional issues, I highly recommend this book to explore the healings of these cultures that have been effective for thousands of years. The Western World is just now learning about these methods, but they are not new to the universe.

This is an important book for anyone who works with people who have severe emotional wounds 6 février 2010
Par D. Benor - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
This is an important book for anyone who works with people who have severe emotional wounds. Sandra Ingerman trained in shamanic healing with Michael Harner, and is now a very respected shamanic teacher herself.

In this easy to read book you will find explanations of shamanic cosmologies and approaches to healing, particularly focused on reuniting people with shattered personalities who have literally lost fragments of themselves. While this may sound like a metaphoric description of psychological fragmentation, in the world of bioenergetic anatomy and healing it is a literal description of aspects of a person that may become fragmented and lost - not just to conscious awareness, but actually dislocated energetically from the person and existing in remote energetic/spiritual realms.

Ingerman details methods for locating and reuniting these fragments with their owners. Case descriptions provide more concrete and understandable details of how the fragmentations occur and how they can be repaired.
For instance:

Carol, a participant in a shamanic workshop, went on her own shamanic journey. A teacher in one of the shamanic realms directed her attention to a childhood trauma that had left her with serious problems. Carol immediately recalled being raped by her father at age three.

Ingerman journeyed into shamanic realms, and with the help of her power animal observed the trauma occurring when Carol was three years old.

As I watched, I saw something for which I was totally unprepared. As the rape was taking place, I saw Carol's soul, her essence, separate from her body and leave. As I watched her departing soul, I was that it had gone into a place known in shamanism as the void - a place of pitch darkness, silence, lifelessness. (p. 42)

Ingerman traveled into the void, calling out to Carol's soul. Connecting with her, Ingerman found her willing to return with her to rejoin Carol. She said, 'Yes' and Ingerman felt her holding onto her back.

When we returned to ordinary reality, I blew the three-year-old soul into Carol's heart and the top of her head, as shamans have traditionally done. "Welcome home," I said to the part that had been lost in the void. (p. 42-43)

A few weeks after our session, Carol called me. She reported she felt as if she were present in her body for the first time in her adult life. Whereas she always had felt disconnected from herself before, she now experienced life directly and intenself. Colors appeared more vibrant. Plants seemed as alive as animals. No longer did she experience life as a movie she was merely observing. (p. 44)

Some may view these reports of personality fragmentations and healings as metaphoric imagery that facilitate a person's reuniting psychological splits which occurred under traumatic circumstances. If this is so, it is still a remarkable contribution to healing such splits. Under more conventional psychotherapeutic approaches, repairing split personalities may take many months and years of therapy. Shamanic healings often occur in a single session.

Others may understand these reports as descriptions of energetic and spiritual realities that are outside conventional, Western cosmological frameworks. My personal preference is for these explanations - which Ingerman details very clearly in this excellent book.

Shamanic Soul Retrieval 25 juin 2011
Par Jim Morris - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
The author is very clear that one should not try to practice soul retrieval based merely on the reading of this book. Nonetheless this book is a thorough, complete, clear and readable account of the technique. What comes through, other than the exposition on soul retrieval itself, is a bone deep niceness on the part of the author. For a person having any interest whatsoever on soul retrieval, this is the place to start.

Great Book 12 février 2007

This is a great book with some very interesting concepts in it. I found a local practitioner from the authors website and had a great experience with him. I would definitely encourage anyone who is not feeling whole to give both the book and the authors website a try.
