This book really gave me a strong insight about why so many people suffer from depression: depression is an Occidental word to give a name to spiritual imbalances that we try to "cure" mostly with mental reasonings with a therapist, but in reality they point out that we need a pause to look inside to our self and not to our ego, that our soul is fragmented, that some parts of it are "missing" or "disturbed" by misplaced energies. The role of a shaman is crucial to heal the soul, to make it whole again.
From p.200: "It is the role of the shaman to identify the spiritual nature of the illness and its location in the body. Once this is known, the shaman removes the illness by "sucking" it out of the body. This is called a shamanic extraction."
