This would make a fair devotional book for children. The chapter lengths are consistent, two pages each and each chapter has a Bible verse associated with it. The stories are simple, not particularly exciting, but interesting nonetheless and the lessons are short and for the most part age-appropriate (a few of the lessons were about sermon preparation or topics not particularly relevant to children). The language also is easy to understand. Many of the stories are from the life of Charles Spurgeon, but many are also from Charles's grandfather. It strikes me more as the kind of book a parent might read aloud to his child than the type of book a child would read to himself, though I'm sure some children would read it to themselves. My complaint with the book would be that because the chapters are all tied to stories about Spurgeon, many of the lessons, and even some of the stories, did not seem to be particularly profitable for children. That is the draw the book, not so much the writing, not so much the stories, not so much the lessons, but that it is about Spurgeon. By the same turn, I could see adults who are interested in Spurgeon and who enjoy light reading, appreciating this book.

Great book! I love Charles Spurgeon's books. I decided to buy this one just because I wanted to know how the spider saved a mans life. Lol. It is a children's book but it still is a good short read for adults who love Spurgeon. I recommend!
