Présentation de l'éditeur

Volume 1 of 5, the best selling Armageddon's Song series, a story that goes further than even Tom Clancy's classic, in a tale of truly global, world war.

Did the Cold War really end? No matter, it is about to get hot anyway.

Espionage, subterfuge, corruption in high places and a nuclear plot are uncovered by a beautiful spy more used to shedding her clothes to discover secrets than she is of keeping them.
Will duty bind her to silence or will conscience win her over?

'Stand-To' is the first book in the 'Armageddon's Song' series and it puts you in the seat of a Sea Harrier dog fighting over the Pacific, in the control room of a submarine during a torpedo attack in the Atlantic, looking down the sights of a sniper rifle on the north German Plain, and at the side of a Russian paratrooper General who leads from the front.

Encompassing not just a story from a US point of view but also through the eyes and deeds of the other combatants, on both sides of the conflict.
There are many and varied characters this book will follow, the soldiers and the spooks, the brave and the low on both sides on the conflict, and of course those just trying to survive World War 3.

As the first pair reached the river the right hand fighter-bomber staggered in the air and Major Kegin applied left rudder to avoid pieces of the aircraft that were being chewed off as if by an unseen buzz saw. The aircraft ahead rolled drunkenly to the right, streaming coolant and smoke, too late the young pilot ejected, leaving the stricken aircraft sideways at less than 200ft altitude and the pilot, still attached to his ejector seat, had struck the ground in a cloud of torn turf and soil.
Kegin’s wingman reacted to a message from the survivor of the lead pair; a slight touch of stick, a nudge of rudder and CBUs dropped from their hardpoints, decimating a pair of bridging sections mounted on T-72 chassis, and an engineer vehicle on the bank. Ahead of them the lead aircraft dropped its nose to ripple fire from its under wing pods, it was still doing so when it vanished in a fireball. Kegin broke left to avoid and found himself looking at some of his traitorous countrymen’s T-72s that emerged line abreast from a treeline. Selecting rockets Kegin applied hard right rudder and walked his rockets across the end three tanks in the line, then he was past and calling for his wingman.

Biographie de l'auteur

About the author Andy Farman was born in Cheshire, England in 1956 into a close family of servicemen and servicewomen who at that time were serving or who had served in the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and British Army. As a 'Pad brat' he was brought up on whichever RAF base his Father was posted to. He joined the British Army as an Infantry Junior Leader in 1972 at the tender age of 15, serving in the Coldstream Guards on ceremonial duties at the Royal Palaces, flying the flag in Africa, and on operations in both Ulster and on the UK mainland. In 1981 Andy swapped his green suit for a blue one with the Metropolitan Police. With volunteer reservist service in both the Wessex Regiment and 253 Provost Company, Royal Military Police (V) he spent twenty four years in front line policing, both in uniform and plain clothes. The final six years as a police officer were served in a London inner city borough and wearing two hats, those of an operation planner, and liaison officer with the television and film industry. His first literary work to be published was that of a poem about life as a soldier in Ulster, sold with all rights to a now defunct writers monthly in Dublin for the princely sum of £11 (less the price of the stamp on the envelope that the cheque arrived in.) The 'Armageddon's Song' trilogy began as a mental exercise to pass the mornings whilst engaged on a surveillance operation on a drug dealer who never got out of bed until the mid-afternoon. Volume 1 ‘Stand-To’ and Volume 2 ‘Advance to Contact’ are already available on Kindle in both the original and abridged editions for -18’s

5.0 étoiles sur 5 If you enjoy military fiction and are looking for an engaging book that doesn't end too quickly, THIS is the series to buy. 25 juillet 2014

I am retired military (US Navy) Ever since Clancy's Red Storm Rising, I have enjoyed military fiction that is wide in scope. Trying to find GOOD current day war novels is difficult. Especially ones that are more balanced (i.e. something more fulfilling than 'Here they come to save the day, the US Military is on the way!' Something that shows the flaws and difficulties of war. The Armageddon's Song series meets those desires. Mr Farman writes as one who has seen and been a part of the things he writes about. The first book in the series, 'Stand To' got me hooked. His ability to pull together widely separate and types of events and threads, into a coherent story that gives the reader a meaty and extremely readable tale that engages and entertains is hard to beat. Some of the things that I really enjoyed are: 1) He isn't afraid to connect a reader to a character that has been developed from a non sympathetic character into one that the reader is rooting for, and then allowing events to bring the character to a demise, sometimes heroic and sometimes ignoble. 2) He shows both the allies and enemy character's points of view, and shows some enemies to be human and following what they see as duty and honor,, and some allies to be banal, self serving and corrupt - in other words, just like real life. 3) He keeps the action at a good pace, and surprises the reader with a good amount of 'Wow! Didn't see that coming!' plot twists. and 4) The conflict between east and west ebbs and flows, much like real life, and neither side has a clear advantage. I REALLY like that is a series and develops over time....Red Storm Rising was great, but I wish it had been about 300% longer and more developed. Mt Farman's series gives me a nice long tale to enjoy, I additionally like his commentary on the cost of governments saving dollars in ways that don't make sense. As a military professional, albeit retired, I believe that Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus had the right of it: "Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum" (If you want have Peace, prepare for war). There is no occasion that I can recall where that philosophy has not been a truism. Some could argue that, but that is my opinion. In short, I am REALLY enjoying this series, and the only thing I don't like is that it is so engaging that I cannot put it down....I keep reading until 2-3 AM. Get it, Read it.

I bought this on a whim, and it was a real surprise. I enjoy this genre, and I immediately (on reading about 10 pages of this one) bought the second one. (I have reviewed that one as well) I can't wait for the final book.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A Good, Decent War Novel 22 septembre 2013

I sometimes enjoy a good novel about war and military conflict, so I got this novel hoping to enjoy it ....and I did. If I had anything bad to say about it (along with many other such novels) is that there was too much written about the politics of the conflict as if trying to convince me that the war was necessary. Few, if any, authors can make even a decent case for such future wars, it's mostly just about impossible to cover such a wide range of reasons and politicians and national interests.

Okay, all that aside, yes, I enjoyed the novel and I also bought the second novel "Advance to Contact" ...which is a continuation of this novel ...I think. But I'll enjoy that one, too.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent 15 juillet 2013

I buy a considerable number of kindle books and this is the first time I have put pen to paper so to speak. I have completed both novels and have found them excellent, there is a dearth of poorly written books being self published and very few gems like this "stand to" and it's sequel. The action sequences are superior to both Glancy and Bond with good well developed protagonists who you genuinely care about. The only down side with both is that I could not put them down till finished and now wait with bated breath for the next book.
