Présentation de l'éditeur

Former Padawan-and former fugitive-Zayne Carrick is taking his life in a new direction. Along with his con-artist best friend Gryph, the beautiful, bold, and mysterious Jarael, and ex-Mandalorian warrior Rohlan, our bumbling yet lovable hero is ready to embark on the sort of adventures only possible in the Star Wars universe! In "Prophet Motive," it's a long-shot swindle gone wrong; in "Faithful Execution," it's a ghost ship and renegade droids; and in "Dueling Ambitions," it's combat sports and high-speed racing. Don't miss out on this action-filled collection of Knights of the Old Republic-it's the beginning of a new era for our cast of characters, and the perfect jumping-on point for new readers!

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Decent novel, not really worth $13 6 avril 2010

I must agree that this is a huge letdown from vindication. The artwork is still superb like the rest of the series, but the story line is quite ridiculous. If you are a fan of the series, I would borrow this from the library, because its really not worth the purchase. Its not memorable, and you will not read it more than once. I would give it 2.5 stars if I could, simply because I still enjoyed the artwork.

I've been a bit disappointed at how much of the modern Star Wars EU seems to have lost sight of what made the Original Trilogy such a success. Fortunately, John Jackson Miller seems to get it. The KOTOR series starts off with a bang and immediately feels like Star Wars. It's got a gripping story, a great ensemble cast, clever humor, and beautiful imagery.

However, it's not just a rehash of Star Wars. The hero, Zayne Carrick, is a bit of a goofball as a Jedi. However, he's framed for the murder of his fellow Padawans. He joins up with Gryph, a Snivvian con artist whose outlandish sense of humor had me laughing out loud at times. Then there's the mysterious and beautiful Jarael who is as tough as she is lovely (really, I kind of have a crush on her). Finally, the group is joined by Rohlan Dyre, a Mandalorian who questions the war.

The Dueling Ambitions arc struggles a bit in finding a focus after Zayne clears his name. I like the fact that the band is all together again. Zayne, Gryph, Jarael, and Rolhan all have their moments in these stories. But there really isn't an overarching story, just more like a bunch of sub-plots as the gang pulls off various con jobs. In some ways, it seems like an interlude because the arc does set up a few mysteries, particularly about Jarael's backstory. There are some fun moments, but it feels a bit sillier than the Covenant arc.

Also, the art style really varies dramatically issue-to-issue here. I actually like the different styles, but it also makes it hard to accept different depictions of the same character.

Overall, I'm still enjoying KOTOR much more than I have most Star Wars EU these days.

John Jackson Miller creates a true star wars adventure in Knights of the Old Republic volume seven, Dueling Ambitions. After being cleared from previous accusations Zayne and Gryph are back and ready to take on the galaxy. Putting themselves into a little situation with a Chev, Zayne and crew head to the core worlds. On the way they discover an abandoned ship that just happens to have a handful of corpses and two stragglers. Eventually the crew arrives to a world that is ran by slave owners who manage a special fueling sport. This book is not near as good as volume six, vindication. Although it feels like a classic star wars adventure none the less. It is creatively written but I feel, as I do almost half the time, that the art is hit and miss...pending on the artist, usually. When all is said and done I give Dueling Ambitions 3.9/5 stars.

I like this whole series. It's a great look at the beginning of the Mandalorian Wars and how Malak started out. The only thing I don't like is that they used different artists on every volume so I was forced to re-invent my vision of the characters for each volume.
