Présentation de l'éditeur

Al Lancaster is a shipwrecked tech scavenger who wakes up from Suspense on the auction block of Hercules Station in the alien-run Markan star system, light years distant from Earth. The only human in a star-traveling culture where ancient Guilds of Trade, Assassins and Spies train solo beings to serve alien masters, Al finds that survival depends on his human predatory instincts. He becomes an industrial thief, bounty hunter and sometimes “hit man” for alien merchants, a job that deeply troubles him as a Zen Buddhist. Hope flares briefly when he falls in love with the alien cat-woman Delo Quar Anken, only to see her kidnapped by a sadistic alien merchant. But Al vows to survive, even when he is faced with his greatest challenge—to carry out a “hit” on the Messiah of Death, a plasma cloud alien that literally cannot be killed. This is Book 1 in the Assassin series. Book 2 is Alien Assassin. Book 3 will be Human Assassin.

Biographie de l'auteur

T. Jackson King (Tom) is a professional archaeologist and journalist. He writes hard science fiction, anthropological scifi, dark fantasy/horror and contemporary fantasy/magic realism--but that didn't begin until he was 38. Before then, college years spent in Paris and in Tokyo led Tom into antiwar activism, hanging out with some Japanese hippies and learning how often governments lie to their citizens. The latter lesson led him and a college buddy to publish the Shinjuku Sutra English language underground tabloid in Japan in 1967. That was followed by helping shut down the UT Knoxville campus in 1968 and a bus trip to Washington D.C. for the Second March on Washington where thousands demanded an end to the Vietnam War. Temporary sanity returned when Tom worked in a radiocarbon lab at UC Riverside and earned an MA degree in archaeology from UCLA. His interests in ancient history, ancient cultures and journalism got him several government agency jobs that paid the bills, led him to roam the raw landscape of the Western United States, and helped him raise three kids. A funny thing happened on the way to normality. By the time he was 38 and doing federal arky work in Colorado, Tom's first novel STAR TRADERS was a stage play in his head that wouldn't go away. So he wrote it down. It got rejected. His next novel was published as RETREAD SHOP (Warner Books, 1988). It was off to the writing races and Tom's many voyages of imaginative discovery have led to seven published novels, a book of poetry, and a conviction that when humans reach the stars, we will find them crowded with space-going aliens. We will be the New Kids On The Block. This theme appears in much of Tom's short fiction and novel writing. Tom lives in Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA. Wow, this was great! I loved the characters. They just kept coming, and coming. If you like aliens, this book has them. The only human, Al, is excellent and is proof that we can hold our own in the galaxy. Then there is sexy Delo! The good aliens vs the bad aliens, it's all here. A few plots to track and they are all good. I loved the way Mr. King ties them all up and ends the story in the book! No hanging off a cliff! I look forward the the Assassins next adventures. I am sure there will be some.

T. Jackson King has outdone himself with his latest Sci-Fi/action/romance set in the 47th Fluorescence, a huge multicultural civilization spread across the galaxy for the past six million years. Lone human Alastair MacDougal Lancaster is a free-lance killer/thief who falls in with the Guild of Assassins after sparing the life of an earlier assignment, content to "acquire" the "desired products" she carried. Although she swears a Vow of Honor to hunt him down and recover her stolen memory crystals, the relationship that began with trying to kill each other turns (of course!) into interplanetary love. Progressing from Acolyte through Indenture and Proficient to Master, Al finds a home and even family with the rich cacophony of incredibly imaginative aliens that make up the Guild, and King's Fluorescence. But will they be able to save the galaxy from the plamsmoid Messiah of Death? Stretch your mind across time, space, alien life and technology in this this thrill-packed wild ride!

From the atmospheric opening in a foul odored alley, to the central plaza of the Hercules Station which seethes with crawling, flowing, hopping and rolling aliens to the sulphuric atmoshpere of Cloudhome where black devil bats discuss the philosphy and the Way to Enlightenment and beyond; you follow Al on his extraordinary journey to find a place in society as he struggles to hold on to his humanity and to overcome the utter loneliness of being the only human in the galaxy.

On his journey he meets wonderful characters such as the Master Assassin Hik who is a cross between a crab and a lobster but oh, so deadly or the hot and horny little Deckan bush, Chin Ling who likes the Doors and whose tubules become engorged on Biogentet memories of other races.( That does sound smutty doesn't it?) The utterly despicable baddies as just as vividly portrayed. Mogen a giant slug gets satisfaction by creating insulting light shows even though no-one can understand them. These characters are believable and I began to have real feelings for them

This story romps along with never a dull moment. The author has developed the Markan Universe and its inhabitants into a fully realised setting with believeable aliens, technology and landscapes. Vivid descriptions engage your imagination and the description of breezes "rank with petrochemicals, spice-smells, alien excrement and mating pheromones from at least twenty races " seem almost real.

This science fiction adventure is an absolute must buy for all those who enjoy reading about alien cultures and space. Guaranteed!

T. Jackson King's, Stellar Assassin is an ambitious science fiction epic that sings! Filled with totally alien lifeforms, one lonely human, an archaeologist named Al Lancaster, must find his way through trade guilds, political maneuvering and indentured servitude, while trying to reconcile his new career as an assassin with his deeply-held belief in the teachings of Buddha.
There are some really bad aliens in this novel- Mogen al-kak, a greedy, deadly mollusk holds Al's bond papers, and desires complete control of the drug, Zanel, memory crystals, and the Life Extend drugs that are the system's most valuable currency.
Unless you are a Norge, that is, to whom nothing holds more value than HONOR~
It is while on assignment to steal memory crystals from the female Norge, Delo, that Al finds the love of his life, and the balm to his lonely existence.
I found myself cheering when the guild of assassins assembled together to fight an invading life form known as, The Messiah- a plasma cloud who, through psychic manipulation, convinces people from all over the galaxy that their sole purpose in existing is to die for it. (Chillingly reminiscent of some of our more Messianic cult-leaders, here on Earth).

Positives- This is a huge, colorful, complicated world with complex characters, outstanding dialogue, believable motivations, wonderful, high-tech battle sequences and, on occasion, a real heart-stringer. (Once in a while, Mr. King introduces a minor character, who will do something so sweet, or so terrible, or desperate the reader realizes that the story is being laid out by a master story-teller.)
This is an almost perfectly edited novel as well, which is a bonus-

Negatives- none, really, but perhaps a word of advise is in order. As stated before, this is an EPIC science fiction novel, with a huge cast of characters. Almost all of these characters (with all their different forms, mannerisms, and appropriate but outlandish names), are critical to the story-line. It might be a good idea (at least at first) to write the names down on a piece of paper or highlight them on your devise.
In addition, don't think this will be an easy read- that is, if you care enough to read through to the end of this marvelous tale. There is no fluff here, or filler. This story needs to be read carefully to really enjoy its complexity.

This is a wonderful novel, written by a wonderful author... Bravo! FIVE STARS!

Well written, thankfully well edited. The story is engaging, and avoids the pitfalls of excessively long introspective passages for the protagonists that seem to be a hallmark of many sci-fi e-books. An excellent beginning for a new series, and I eagerly await the next installment!
