Présentation de l'éditeur

Lyrical visionary, enduring style icon and one indispensable fifth of post-Peter Green megaband Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks is one of the most recognisable figures in rock n roll history - very much Fleetwood Mac s Queen Bee , as Mick Fleetwood himself describes her. While she once made headlines with her hedonistic lifestyle, part of Nicks irresistible appeal is her youthful vulnerability and mystical aura, making her an artist with whom fans have an unbreakable emotional connection. Crowned The Reigning Queen Of Rock And Roll by Rolling Stone, and with gold and quadruple platinum solo albums under her beaded belt, Stevie Nicks has enjoyed the ultimate in rock n roll success in her life as a recording artist - but this charmed life has come as a result of hard graft, self-belief and a devotion to creativity above all; hers has been a journey of intense highs and lows. This book, a celebration of the Stevie Nicks phenomenon, takes us on her journey from peripatetic mid-West childhood to her explosion onto the music scene as chiffon-swathed rock goddess, right up to present day. Including exclusive interviews with some of Stevie s associates and collaborators from over the years, author Zoë Howe explores the mystique while retaining the magic of this modern-day musical sorceress and wise woman of rock.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Not bad but nothing exceptional! 25 septembre 2014

A decent read, however I knew already many of the things posted in this book. I think the author may have wanted to beat Stephen Davis to the press by getting this out before his bio of Ms. Nicks is released in October of this year.
There wasn't anything earth shattering about this book that warrants 5 stars. I actually didn't finish it there were about 4 chapters I just stopped reading due to already knowing what was going to be said.
When reading a celebrity bio a reader wants the meat and potatoes, the unknown facts of a famous person's life and work, so while not an awful read, hey at least she can spell which is an exception on kindle these days and I'm very serious when I say that. I try to be fair regarding book reviews and while Zoe Howe obviously did investigate Ms. Nicks life it felt rushed and did not have the depth one would want in a bio, especially since Stevie Nicks will probably never write her own life story.
In this book Stevie comes across as selfish, narcissistic, and the typical me, me, me that many famous people end up believing in their own hype. I at times found myself not liking Stevie Nicks the person and I am a huge fan of hers.
There is a part in this book where Stevie tells one of the (I believe producer/sound engineers) that she was happy his dog died because his dog was the one featured on the Tusk cover because according to Stevie Nicks that should of been her cover, not cool if true and extremely telling of the personality.
I liked Carol Ann Harris book much better. I found out things I didn't know about Ms. Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. There simply was not enough details in this book to keep me entertained and while I did appreciate the sense of humor that went into this book added by the author's perceptive most of what was written about regarding Ms. Nicks life, Stevie has talked of in interviews and has already been written about.
If you're a new fan this book will serve you well, older fans who already know the Stevie-Lindsey love hate etc. etc. with tons of filler I'd say wait for Davis book.

Although interesting, I was somewhat disappointed in the book. I think I just expected more. It appeared to be written solely for the purpose of motivating interest in Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac due to their tour which just started. Probably would have been less disappointed if the cost had been lower. Some of the tidbits from the book were all over the internet, so not much new in the book.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Nice read, but nothing most fans don't already know. 18 février 2015

I think the book would've been better if Stevie had been involved and provided her own spin on the events of her life. But this book is mainly quotes from other interviews, quotes from other books, or stories die-hard Stevie fans already knew all about.

I would've preferred a lot more detail on some of the meanings to her songs. Some songs are covered pretty well, while others are just mentioned in passing. Stevie has songs all over the internet that were only demos which were never recorded. Others were album cuts that fans love dearly. It would've been nice to spend more time on the music and less time on her many, many affairs.

Nothing really new here, but it is nice to have the whole story in one book, though.

I am a big fan of Stevie especially the emotionally touching Landslide. I enjoyed learning about her childhood love of singing due to her grandafather, her emotional rollercoaster of love and hate with Lindsey as well as her affairs with Don Henley, Joe Walsh of the Eagles, Mick Fleetwood and Jimmy Iovine her producer. She married her best friend's husband only to divorce him in 3 weeks. I am also touched by the beautiful brother - sister like closeness of her and Tom Petty who inspired her to get her life in order and be the best performer and writer possible. She also refers to Sheryl Crow as her protective sister on the road and Prince as a close friend too. I like when musicians show a deep human quality that makes their stories worth reading. She truly is Rhiannon who captivates our interest and shows us the mystical, creative artistt she truly is.

If this book was intended to be as long as it was, it should have given more attention to the later years of Stevie Nicks career. Maybe it should not have been written yet, for the next couple of years may be the most interesting part of her career, what with "F-Mac" reunited for the first time in years.

This author really needs to understand how to prioritize about what they write, failed greatly here. This subject is probably best covered by a long overdue autobiography.
