C Miens.

HASH(0x9ca82120) étoiles sur 5 Best value in headphones 4 février 2012

So these may not be a giant killer, but they are something special. At <$50, these represent a stunning achievement in terms of quality. This is a price that makes this a giftable headphone if you want to introduce someone to the world of good audio. I bought these on a bit of a whim, but it was an amazing decision.

So first of all, these are still $50 headphones, so a few things were compromised, but not too poorly.

The packaging is rather plain, but effective. It has a semi-retro look to it, which I find somewhat appealing even if it is bland. Included with the headphones are two detachable cables (3.5mm), 3ft. and 10ft. respectively. There is also the ubiquitous 1/4" adapter. Everything is gold plated. Right away, I give many extra points to the inclusion of detachable cables on a cheap headphone. I had read of others saying that the cables were flimsy or transmitted static. I have experience no static and the cables seem quite robust to me (thicker than the usb cable on my mouse or keyboard).

The headphones are (IMO) quite unattractive. They are quite obviously cheap plastic when you hold them, and even the ear pads have a decidedly cheap look, even for vinyl. Complaints aside, I can bend and sway the headphones without fear of breaking them, and feel pretty solidly built, and I'm sure they can survive a few drops and dings.

Comfort is hugely important to me, because I wear headphones all day long. These are the MOST comfortable headphones ever, but they are better than other reviewers would have led me to believe. They utilize a wing system like audiotechnica. I have had other cans that I felt like I needed to take off from time to time or reposition due to discomfort. So far this is not an issue with these. Having said that, you won't ever forget that you have them on either. I will also note that I wear reasonably thick framed glasses, and which they do exert some pressure on the frames, it is not enough to cause discomfort. It is still winter, but I can tell that in the summer, my ears will sweat from the vinyl ear pads. I may upgrade to velour as winter passes. I have heard others say that the wings press to much into their head. Again, this seems like a very minor complaint to me, and is the least noticeable aspect of the headphone interaction for me.

I have only just received these (no burn in, etc.) but they sound great. The sound is EXTREMELY clean, almost to a fault it feels at times. These are a colder sounding headphone for sure, very much precise and analytical. The bass is present, and a bit warmer, but never anything remotely punchy, I only listen to a small amount of electronic music, and it handles it reasonable well, but if it was my primary genre, I might start looking elsewhere. The mids are perfect, everything is fantastically clear, and I am hearing things in songs I have never even heard before. The highs...can be a bit much. They are extremely clear, the headphones don't strain to reach their greatest heights, but they are a bit overpowering. I recommend anyone with an EQ try lowering 7-10k by 2-3db and 10k+ by 3-4 db to make it more palatable. This is especially true for electronic music. the synth sounds actually approach painful levels at times.

Surprisingly good soundstage, especially with older music (as always), but the semi-openess actually leaks fairly little sound, and I don't see these levels of leaking really bothering anyone (namely my wife about 5 feet away).

I never review products, but I am really impressed by these. Best headphones for the money, easily.

HASH(0x9ca82348) étoiles sur 5 So Far, So Good (EDIT: Still Good) 22 décembre 2012
Par D. Julian - Publié sur Amazon.com

So far, I'm going with 4 stars; it won't take long to upgrade this to five stars if it continues to perform as well as it did immediately upon receipt.

I had the following concerns based on the Amazon and the Head-Fi reviews:
1) That the highs would be too high--possibly even sibilant.
2) That the fit would be uncomfortable (too tight; too warm).
3) That the build quality would be poor.

So far, all of those concerns have proven to be unfounded. I'm not a sound-expert, but on a quick listen to a range of music (Bill Evans on the piano, Justice, etc), I found the sound to be well-balanced, enjoyable, and clear. Neither the highs, mids, nor lows were overwhelming. On the second concern, I have a large head, and these fit well, with no pinch. In fact, I wouldn't mind a little tighter fit. I also have large ears, and the cups covered my ears entirely. Finally, the build quality is fine. It's not bullet-proof, but it's solid enough for this price range.

I'll continue to listen, and if they sound much better after about 100 hours if listening time, I'll come back to upgrade the rating.

EDIT: Well, it's two years later (the original review is dated Dec 21, 2012, and it's now Dec 28, 2014). These headphones have continued to perform just as well as when I first bought them. I quickly grew accustomed to the fit, and I still use them every day. They block out enough noise to allow me to disappear into my work, but I'm still able to hear when someone needs to get my attention. I strongly recommend this pair of headphones, especially if you can get them for the $30 or so I paid.

HASH(0x9ca825ac) étoiles sur 5 Great Analytical Studio Headphones 15 juin 2012
Par Adam - Publié sur Amazon.com
A review from another happy owner and DnD and techno producer. So I will judge the headphones from the producer's perspective, not from the "average consumer" or "hifi enthusiast" perspective.

I have several years of experience in electronic music production. What I have learned over the years is that you cannot mix on headphones, no matter how good they are or supposed to be. Headphones will never give you a good overall picture of your mix, they will be always misleading when it comes to the overall stereo image and overall balance of the mix. This is physics which cannot be fooled by any marketing trick or belief.

BUT, headphones are very good when creating your own sounds using synthesizers because they can give you a very detailed picture of the particular sound, where it belongs frequency wise and what the problematic parts are. Sound created on synth using headphones should sound similar (in ideal case the same) on your monitors. So headphones are rather a surgeon's analytical tool for pickling up subtle inaccuracies in the mix then universal tool for making good overall mixes.

Taking the above into account what can I say about these headphones?:-)

BASS
The bass response is the story for itself. They have an exceptionally good bass response. Yes the bass IS hyped a bit, but it is very detailed and tight If you know what I mean. No blurred picture of the bass, little overloaded (so what? Don't forget you have your monitors for the overall balance!!), yes, but very, very precise.

MIDS
These speakers do not sound "forward" as other headphones with hyped mids. Mids on these are accurate and not overloaded.

HIGHS
Ehm - YES, YOU HAVE ALREADY READ ABOUT THIS MANY TIMES - HIGHS ARE HYPED!!!:-)) But I don't care, they remain precise and the brightness helps you to discover wrong parts of your mix. And that is what studio headphones are supposed to do. And these do it exceptionally well. I would say these are the present NS10s of the studio headphones market!!!!:-))

Very important remark - after a little burn in (10 hours or so with some heavy DnB) the highs became more bearable. They are still bright though but I dont use them for long term listening. But If anynone wants to use them for this purpose, a bit of sensible EQing will definitely work for you, or play them on some reasonable volume.

OVERALL SOUND
Hands down, no matter how cheap they are, they are PROFFESIONAL UNFORGIVING STUDIO HEADPHONES with exceptional detail and accuracy. They are NOT HIFI HEADPHONES. They are bright like hell, yes, but for the purpose of producing electronic music (and for the purpose the studio headphones are used by those with some experience), they are a hidden gem (if you don't expect that they should substitute your speakers - no headphones can). They are insanely precise. Every little imperfection which would be overlooked on monitors is very visible (audible?:-) on these. I owned Seinheisers HD280s and Superlux headphones are much better in every respect - better stereo image, not that forward sounding, flatter(in their own way of course - the brightness is still there).

I have an impression that they need to be plugged to a decent headphone amp or to the device which has one built in - I have them plugged to my NI Komlete Audio 6 - and they sound tremendously good. But the output on my smart phone was somehow not enough for them - but for the bedroom studio guy who will plug them into his audio interface, they will sound amazing.

Any sound creted on synth sounded almost exactly the same on monitors, the headphones give you the true picture of the mix (of course within physical limits whoch apply for all headphones in the world).

VALUE FOR MONEY
Excellent.

HASH(0x9ca82528) étoiles sur 5 Amazing! (with some loving) 17 mai 2013
Par Mohammed Muthalib - Publié sur Amazon.com

I thought it prudent to give the headphones some time before posting a review. So I did, and my opinion has only gotten better. Owing to the semi-openness, the soundstage is pretty wide and the pressure on the eardrums is reduced. Downside is that it leaks quite a bit of noise. I use these at work so I have to use my Sennheiser HD419's (closed) when I feel like cranking up the volume. I also use A Behringer UCA202 dac and HA400 headphone amp which gives me a slight improvement over the onboard sound from my work computer.

Things I Like:
The sound clarity is amazing. I can clearly separate instruments in almost every track.
Voice and instrument sound reproduction is very accurate.
Wide soundstage.
Comfortable and lightweight headband.
Detachable long and short cables.

Not so good:
Pretty unforgiving. If you are trying to listen to some streaming music with not so good quality these headphones make them sound worse.
Highs are too sharp and base is a bit lacking. Even after giving it time, the highs can be a bit too much and starts hurting my ears.
Not a flat response.

Overcoming the downsides:
The first thing I did was replace the pleather ear pads with soft ones I found on ebay. Makes a world of difference when you wear them 8 hours a day.
To address the harsh highs, I replaced the fabric in front of the driver with 5mm foam. This not only made the highs less harsh but also improved the lower end.
These cans also benefit greatly by some equalizing. Turn down the highs a bit and bring the base end up and they are perfect.

I also have a pair of ATH AD500 that I use for gaming but prefer the 668B's for music.

I highly recommend these for someone looking to get high quality sound on a tight budget.

These are the best headphones that you can get for under $50. The sound quality is absolutely amazing. I've heard people say that they have too much treble, and not enough bass, but I found that they compliment eachother nicely. The sound is crisp and clean, the bass is comfortable, not overpowering at all. The treble is a tad higher than other headphones but I think it's perfect, I love good clean treble. The headphones themselves are very comfortable, the two pads on top hold your head very well, I find this 1000x more comfortable that a regular strap on top. Over long periods of time 6+ hours I find that the earcups get slightly sweaty, and slightly uncomfortable, but the headband is absolutely perfect for long periods of time. If you plan on wearing these for more than 8 hours at a time, as sometimes I do I would get replacement earpads, ones that aren't this leathery material, I recommend a soft foamy material like what's on the Beyerdynamic DT-880, or the Razer Carcharias, the earcups on those headphones are very comfortable, however the earcups on the Razer Carcharias will not fit on these headphones, so don't buy those exactly as a replacement, I just meant the material. Thanks for reading my review, and you're welcome for posting.
