Caution: Suunto Quest Monitor Can Record Irratically. 30 avril 2013
Par Jeffrey Harris - Publié sur
I've used a Suunto Quest for a year now to monitor heart rate during circuit training and rowing. The first unit I had recorded accurately for 9 months with a change of battery. Suddenly it was recording flat lines in places instead of a varying heart rate and the heart rate would show as a blank on the monitor.

I sent the first one back to Suunto for repairs. They sent a new monitor and strap at no charge.

Unfortunately, after using the new monitor and strap for a month, it began to record flat lines in place of a changing heart rates and the monitor showed blanks instead of heart rates. I sent it back for another round of repairs.

The Suunto Quest is light weight and easy to use. I am hoping this glitch goes away with the next repair or replacement units that Suunto provides. Their customer service (I contacted them online and shipped by Fedex) is lightening fast. I want the Suunto Quest to be as reliable as their customer service seems to be, but am beginning to fear it is not. Stay tuned for an update. Suunto is a Finish company but the device is stamped "Made in China".

UPDATE 1/11/2014 After less than a year, I'm getting flat lines once again. I've replaced the batteries in both the watch and strap. For a third time I will send both back to SUUNTO for repairs. So far, the quality of SUUNTO's customer service greatly exceeds the quality control and useful life of this product. I'll report how they respond to this on-going problem.

Better Than Polar and Timex 12 mai 2013
Par Clarence Wade - Publié sur
Taille: UNICA Achat vérifié
I own three Polars and one Timex HRM. This I rank 1 of 5. I've owned a month and used over 20 hours and ten exercise events. I'm 54 and I spare no expense for things that will make taking care of my health more interesting fun or less of a drudgery--this is the best score since my underwater iPod!
Beautiful to look at.
Only Timex easier to use but only because the Timex is so basic.
Software that allows uploading of workout is so COOL...(works perfect on my Mac)
...graphs, max, min, calories, all as big as your computer monitor!
Can access the data and graphs from work, iPhone, iPad, any computer ... On a plane :)
Most comfortable chest strap.
Link technology allows use on Concept II rowing machines withOUT any other device.
Ability to personally program what two pieces of information are displayed, and five different sets, is so COOL.
Can lock screen so no accidental laps or start/stops
Prettiest watch band I've ever owned
Again I'm 54 and without my reading glasses the lower displayed value is sometimes hard to read (but I can)
The buttons mounted on the side sometimes activate during push-ups or events when your wrist goes to right angles--would be really bad but since you can lock the buttons less of an issue.
First time on software takes some persistence to understand but worth the effort. Just explore every tab and you'll get it.

Suunto Quest: Handsome watch; so-so transmitter; great on-line tools 4 août 2014
Par Michael Byrd - Publié sur
I've used this watch about 30 times now since purchasing it 4 months ago. As others have noted in reviews already, the watch tends to lose transmitter contact with the chest strap, leaving flat lines in your workout tracking. I've tried replacing the batteries, rotating the watch to the inside of my wrist when I run, and using electrode gel on the strap. None of these techniques solve the problem. The watch loses signal a bit more often than the 10-year-old Polar it replaced and the Polar at least reliably re-connected when held against the chest strap for a few seconds.

What I do now when I am working out is relocate the watch someplace closer to the strap. When I run I tie the watch to the drawstring of my running shorts. When I bike I strap the watch to my handlebars. When I lift weights I strap the watch to the chest strap and pull my shirt over the top of it. Which looks goofy and obviously makes using the "lap" function impractical if that is important to you. All of which takes some of the James Bond-ian fun out of having a heart rate monitor watch. It is too bad the thing doesn't just do the one thing it should reliably do. In all fairness I read other reviews before I purchased the watch and knew that loss of contact was a known issue with this model. I was prepared to tinker with the thing and get creative. But it is still a bit disappointing to have it not work as well as you want it to. As Don Cheadle says, "you had one job to do!"

The watch looks great on the wrist. It is well designed and easy to read. The initial quality of the construction is good -- the clasp is chunky and handsome, the strap looks and feels great, the watch case feels sturdy. The bezel is quite tall at the outer edge, so if you wear your shirt cuffs tight the Suunto Quest will likely not fit inside the cuff. I tend to wear the Quest all the time now unless I have to wear a suit. It takes up a bit more space than I find comfortable with a suit on. Otherwise it is cool to look down and see the watch you used to track your workout that morning. Makes you feel like a champ. There is a definite psychological component to wearing a heart rate monitor as your daily watch. I never thought the Polar was attractive enough to use for regular wear. The Quest certainly is.

I rate this watch four out of five stars because in addition to being a handsome and reasonably well functioning watch/monitor, the Quest also links to Suunto's great web site for uploading fitness data. is a great site and makes having the heart rate data more satisfying and fun. There is no cost to participate and the Quest comes with a wireless USB receiver to connect your watch to your computer for data uploading. It is a surprisingly elegant and simple process.

If pure heart-rate monitor functionality is your priority, look elsewhere. If you want a handsome watch that does several things reasonably well, I recommend the Suunto Quest.

Good basic cycling heart rate monitor 23 septembre 2013
Par Carol - Publié sur
Taille: UNICA Achat vérifié
I bought this to replace my old Quest watch for cycling, which unfortunately went for a swim with a partially closed battery cover :( I use this as a training and weight loss tool and bought it for the heart rate and total calories burned features. I don't use the upload or other advanced features.

Style wise, I wanted something that looked a bit more solid than the smaller, simple heart rate watches. I have small wrists so this is big on me but it looks fine and is comfortable for all day wear.

When this heart rate monitor works, it works well ... 5 juillet 2014

When this heart rate monitor works, it works well. However, it shuts off regularly even when running. Suunto told me to have the battery checked, and there was no problem. I sent the watch back fora replacement
