Sweet Reckoning is the epic conclusion to the Sweet Trilogy by the wonderfully talented Wendy Higgins.

As sad as I am to say goodbye to this world and it's amazing characters, I was so happy that this series ended on a high note, although not without the sacrifice of characters along the way, but Sweet Reckoning will surely delight all fans and keep everyone happy.

Being the last book in a series it's hard not to give anything away whilst writing this review, because believe me there are things that occur in this book that you'll want to experience yourself without spoilers, everything is wrapped up, there are no unanswered questions left at the end and we get an epilogue that's set six years later that will catch you up on the lives of all of these characters that we've grown to love and will miss, I'm especially talking about the tall, dark and sexy bad boy Kaidan.

For those of you who read the last Lux series book Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout, you will have noticed the use of Anna and Kaidan's names as alias' used by the main characters after the heroine read the book Sweet Evil, well I was overjoyed to see it paid in kind with Anna reading a book featuring a certain sexy alien, it's the things like this that make me love this series even more.

With the inevitable battle looming, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat as we keep our fingers crossed that all ends well for these Nephilim, and that they all get to live their happily ever afters.

This is one of the best final books of a series that I've read, and should be referred as a how to when ending a series, this was perfect and I couldn't have chosen any other way to end this trilogy.

Kudos to Wendy for taking into account what would make the fans happy and not just going for the shock value, all you need is a fantastic story told well and that's what we've been given.

One thing's for sure: Wendy Higgins knows how to bring on the feels.

As the last book in the series, I was expecting this novel to go out with a huge bang. The first two installments, after all, were building up to an amazingly epic war between good vs. evil, those rightfully tossed from Heaven and those who want to return and have earned the right to do so. And well, that battle did take place, I suppose, if you're more for drama and antics and some cat-fighting as opposed to an all out war. I wanted the war. If I wasn't expecting the war then perhaps I would have been satisfied with the ending, but I feel almost misled. Higgins hinted that a war was coming for the previous two books and well...the war did not come. What took the place of the war was something that could occur among a rowdy group of people who had a little too much to drink alongside some crazy attempts to incite war that didn't invoke enough rage in anyone, and my disappointment was palpable. I am not the happiest of campers currently.

Another issue I had with this book was Kaiden. In the past, I loved his obsession with sex. He's the Son of Lust and it's his job. He knows what he is good at and he's there to cater to all. But this book it just got annoying. I felt like I was dealing with a 13 year old at times. There's a difference between a burning passion for sex and outright addiction that gets old after it's mentioned twice. His inclinations got way too old way too fast. There wasn't much variety and his thoughts were constantly muddied. Sure, he had his sweet moments, but they felt overpowered by sex at times. It frustrated me that the world could potentially come to an end with the sins running rampant if they lose the final battle and he's preoccupied with sex, so much so that simply patting his leg makes him moan at a dinner table with ten other people. Just stop, I can't handle this. It was very hard to take him seriously at times.

There's also way too much craziness in this plot to wrap your head around at once. I had trouble figuring out if I enjoyed this book or not because of this. There's a baby, there's sex, there's cheating, there's drinking, there's questioning sex before marriage, couples from the past hooking up while others break-up, actual marriages, death, demons, and so much more. And, typically, while I enjoy juicy plots, I don't like plots full of shenanigans. At times, I had trouble taking things seriously. I didn't really know, at all, what to think about the fact that there would be a baby in the midst--not to mention the fact that the mother of the child went into war and participated in battle while pregnant. I can't wrap my head around it! I can't wrap my head around the sex and all of this so-called amazing planning, yet having no fall-backs. I just couldn't take certain things seriously or I'm still trying to piece together my thoughts.

I think these struggles made themselves known when it came to some of the books ideals. One thing was the whole "sex before marriage thing." Anna can't have sex before marriage despite true love because she'd be considered impure, but if she has sex after a marriage consisting of a friend getting ordained and a husband in surfer pants, that's totally fine. I think that some people will agree with this and some won't, and for those who disagree with this ideal may be slightly frustrated. That's all I'm saying on the matter.

However, the thing that bugged me most was the half-naked selfie Anna sent Kaiden. At one point in the story she was missing him and she pretty much took a picture of the lower half of her body, still in underwear, but in a suggestive pose and, well, not that covered. She then freaked out and was all nervous after she sent it and felt empowered when Kaiden replied about how he just couldn't contain himself. This struck a chord with me because there was a scandal nearby my hometown with minor's spreading naked pictures because the girls felt as if they were validated if they could make their boyfriend's happy. I don't really agree with the fact that a girl has to feel empowered by showing herself off sexually. She can feel empowered by catching a guy's eyes out on the street. It's not necessary and I don't really like the message that I perceived from that scene.

In-between the frustration and the pet peeves mentioned above and the romancing, the waiting, and the running, this story was pretty solid. It was full of love between friends, Kopano still being one of my all-time favorites, and love between family as displayed by Anna, Patti, and her Father. It's really a story full of relationships and tragedy and fighting for what's right, but I can't help but be disappointed with everything mentioned above after I loved the first two books so much.

What truly redeemed this book in my eyes was the epilogue. Though cliche in the best possible way, I wouldn't have wanted this book to end any other way. It tied up all loose ends and made it impossible not to smile. And you can't help but root for all of the couples in this one, they're just so perfect together.

Good job, Wendy Higgins. I'm definitely curious to see what else you'll write for us in the future.

Warning: There is sexual instances, violence, a "nude" photo, murder, death, and underage drinking that may make young children uncomfortable.

Sweet Reckoning is an epic finale for the Sweet Trilogy. I can say without a doubt that this book was one of my favorite in the series and fans won't be disappointed with it. It has everything: romance, action, friendship, unexpected turns and one ending that would make you smile like a lunatic and cry because you won't have new stories about Anna and the Neph.

In this book we get to see more about Anna and Kaidan as a couple. Anna's more secure of herself, stronger and ready to fight for a future without the Dukes.
Kaidan, on the other hand, is the perfect book boyfriend. He's no longer running from Anna and the feelings they have for each other and is willing to fight to have her. I am definitely in love with him, her british accent and his badass attitude. That hasn't change a bit. But with his new romantic side, he melt my heart!

The romance between these two was perfect and you can clearly see why they were destined to be together from the very first book. They are so much better together than apart, and having them grasping at happiness brought some of the best moments in the book.

There are new characters and the already known Neph. However, in this book, they are more unite. Maybe because the battle is near, but you get to see some of the greater moments of the whole gang together. Blake is even more hilarious. You get to know a soft side Ginger never had before. Marna is even sweeter and you can't stop smiling when she's with Anna. Jay finally gets to be (truly) inside the gang and show his caring side for one particular Neph. Kope has the chance at happiness, too. And Z stops being so afraid. The only sad part was Flynn (you'll know why I'm saying this when you read the book).
All the characters (human and Neph) were amazing. Is one of these gangs you like every single character from it, even the ones with some peculiarities.

The plot was fast paced and pretty easy to read. The author, without losing her undeniable touch throughout the story, brought a lot of action and love at the same time, without losing the main point in the story: sending the Dukes either to heaven or to Hell.
There's a lot of twists and unexpected outcomes. I was completely on edge the whole time. Not knowing what was going to happen and I was aching to see every Neph with their happy and well-deserved ending. I can assure you that there were a lot of emotions while reading the book. However, the almost-ending (moments previous, during and after the battle) was definitely the cliff-hanger in the story and Wendy Higgins completely riveted it. There were a lot of things I never saw it coming and I couldn't stop feeling sad, happy and relieved at the same time. And most important, there's nothing that leaves the reader wondering "what happened with...".

The only thing that I'd have liked to see more was to have a couple of more chapters about the lives of the Neph after the battle. We get the opportunity to read about them, but not as much as I'd have liked. Maybe because I'm one of those crazy fans that would make Wendy write about them endlessly!

Sweet Reckoning is a gripping story. A haunting story for the expected finale of the Sweet Trilogy which stayed with me long after I'd finished reading it. The only sad thing about it is not having more books to read about Anna, Kaidan and the other Neph. I adore this series and I love every single character. Even though this was the ending of the series, The Sweet Trilogy will always be one of my favorite YA series.
Sweet Reckoning is definitely the best tribute for the Sweet Trilogy and one of the best finales I've read in a series so far. I highly recommend this book to YA romance and paranormal fans. And if you have not read the Sweet Trilogy books, I say you have to give it a try. You'd be fascinated with it from the very first page.

HASH(0x9964f7c8) étoiles sur 5 The Perfect Ending!!! 21 avril 2015

I am partly heartbroken that this series is at an end and partly ecstatic because it had such a phenomenal ending that in my opinion was just right. After the second book that had Kai resisting Anna until the end, it was just such a sweet relief to see them both committed to being together and not letting anything get in their way! I've been in love with all of these characters since Book 1, and now, it’s just so great to see their ending!

The story picks up right where the second book leaves off, which worked out really well. It was action packed and (insert sigh) romance packed! It was just the perfect ending to a series that had me invested from the very beginning. I just need to give a shout out to one of my all-time favorite book characters – Kaiden Rowe; man do I swoon for that boy! I am so excited that even though the series is done, we’re going to get to see the events happening in Kaiden’s POV in Sweet Temptation!! I’ve also always loved the chapter titles! I am a fan of Wendy Higgins, and this is without a doubt one of my favorite book series of all time!

"There was going to be a reckoning here tonight, both sweet and terrible."

I have really enjoyed this series. It was a fast, fun read. Not much to have to think about, and while parts of it may have been cheesy or too 'easy', I still loved it and was definitely what I was needing to read right now.

The action was revved up even more. There is a lot of strategizing, running, hiding, and fighting in this one. I love how much Anna has grown throughout the story. She's so easy to underestimate and that's to her enemies' detriment. The side characters are all in depth and they are hard not to get attached to. Higgins also isn't afraid to make some hard choices of taking some of those characters away from us and forcing them into some pretty tragic situations which definitely makes the idea of this war more believable. The group becomes this sort of family all bonded together and it was amazing to watch all these personalities and people who didn't have any friends or family meld together to form this ragtag group of heroes. That's my favorite part I think. The Dukes that they are up against are despicable. I love how grotesque they come off and the evil they are prepared to do since it makes me want Anna to take them down even more.

I would have liked to see the final confrontation stretch out a little more, but overall the action was really good.

He said...She said

Some will find the romance incredibly cheesy and may even be shaking their heads or cringing a bit in parts. I adored the partnership between Anna and Kai and though it was all a bit cliche, it worked for the story in my opinion. I enjoy the relationships that happen out of two people who don't like each other at first (though they may be wildly attracted to each other) and grow into that all-consuming love. They went through their whiny and jerk periods and they had a lot of cute moments in this final book.

And we all stand firm

Definitely a good series. The concepts involved with the angels and demons are original and interesting. Anna is a strong heroine and her group of side characters are simply amazing. The romance and action parts are a good bonus. It was quick and easy to read and get through, and though it may have had it's flaws it was great for me. Definitely recommended.
