Biographie de l'auteur

Dr. Caroline Leaf holds a PhD in communication pathology from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Since 1981 she has researched the science of thought as it relates to thinking, learning, renewing the mind, gifting, and potential. Dr. Leaf is an international and national conference speaker on topics relating to optimal brain performance, such as stress, toxic thoughts, male/female brain differences, thinking and learning, controlling our thought lives, wisdom, and how to identify and use one's natural gifts. She is frequently interviewed on TV stations around the globe, has published many books and scientific journal articles, and has her own TV show starting in 2013. Leaf and her husband, Mac, live with their four children in Texas.

When I heard about this book, I thought that it was probably a bunch of bunk. I has been mired in depression for much of my adult life, and I’ve looked for many avenues to free myself from that depression. Nothing I’d found worked for long, but Switch On Your Brain seems to have done the trick. The book is an excellent primer on cognitive development and even quantum science as it relates to the brain. That is to say, there is no fluff in this book. It works off of proven scientific methods for changing your thought processes one step at a time. In the middle of the book, you’ll be asked to start Dr. Caroline Leaf’s 21-day brain detoxification regimen. I did, and I have never felt happier in my life.

I’ve also used 21 Things You Should Give Up To Be Happy in tandem with Switch On Your Brain. Written by Alvin Huang and Chris D’Cruz, 21 Things You Should Give Up To Be Happy is a treatise on all the negative thoughts and behaviors that you just need to get rid of. Many of our negative self-thoughts come from wanting to please others, but it’s important to realize that you have to give that stuff up. You have to give up wanting everyone to like you. In my case, I was always obsessed with gaining the approval of everyone. I thought if everyone liked me, then maybe I’d be happy. Of course, we know that there is no such thing a universal approval from everyone.

If you’re looking for a neuroscience-based program to really detoxify your brain, then you can’t beat Switch On Your Brain. It’s the best way to flush out all those negative thoughts and hindrances from your psyche. 21 Things You Should Give Up To Be Happy is also a great book for learning how to excise negative self-thoughts from your life. I would say that both of these books have helped me dig my way out of my depression. It wasn’t easy, but it has been well worth it. I’m glad I was able to change my brain and let go of all the hindrances to my progress.

In "Switch On Your Brain" * Dr. Leaf promises that in 21 days we can detoxify our minds. In the book, she makes a few great points that even while reading, helps begin the healing process before the 21-Day Detox plan. If you can get through the first 130+ pages describing the mind, brain, and quantum theories as it pertains to Scripture, then you will be fine. The 21 Day plan starts in the middle of the book. Just a fair warning.

The first point I learned is that the brain is different from the mind. I knew this from previous philosophy classes, but Dr. Leaf assures us that there is a critical difference. Before, many doctors and scientists taught that the brain is physical and pre-programmed and therefore a person is stuck in the depression or illness and need meds all the time.

Not true.

With detoxing, you can get your healthy brain cells back and what is really cool is each chapter has Scripture for thought pertaining to the mind and encourages you on your "detoxing" journey.

Second, our brain is neuroplastic-"meaning it can change and grow"(14). If our brains can change and grow, then we have be mindful of our thoughts. What are we allowing in?

We can not control outside circumstances, but we can control our reaction to it. Toxic thoughts like: doubt, unbelief, fear, anger- changes our brain and it causes us to become something that will require an act of God for healing. That is where detoxing comes in.

Another powerful point, Dr. Leaf makes is your parents or your past does not make you who you are. This is predisposition, not destiny. Do not make genetics your god. You can live a long healthy life full of joy. And her book is here to help.

There are so many important facts listed in this book and what becomes repetitive is actually what you'll need to remember as you go through the detox plan:

-Mind controls matter
-Choice and your multiple-perspective advantage
-Your choices change your brain
-Catch those thoughts
-Entering into directed rest
-Stop milkshake-multitasking
-Thinking, God, and the quantum physics brain
-The science of thought

The very first half of the book was powerful to read and coupled with sound biblical wisdom, you can get your life back just from the beginning of the book. After scanning through the 21 Day Detox plan, I know that I would buy this book for myself.

I love this book! Usually, I don't read a book all the way through. Books get tedious and too wordy and I lose interest and start "skimming". This is such an easy book to read and understand and has a very good message. I am reading it again, taking notes as I go. One of my all time favorites!!

This is, bar none, the most exciting and revolutionary book I've ever read on how to change your thinking. And beyond that, it's not just scientifically accurate, it's Scripturally accurate too. As you read, it all begins to make sense and you wonder how we didn't see this before. Actually, it was all written in the Bible thousands of years ago, but we are just now gaining the technology to prove how it all works together, how God created the mind to be able to be renewed so we are not held captive by our past negative thoughts, emotions and experiences. Amazing read!!!

After hearing some good things about Dr. Caroline Leaf and seeing a couple of video clips of her teaching I decided to order this book. Been struggling with some things and want to get rid of negativity. I began reading the book and got excited! What she shares in the beginning is wonderful information and shows how science is verifying the wisdom and truth of Scripture. The excitement continued to build as explanations were given of how we can actually change our brain chemistry for our good! Mention is made of the brain detox program and steps to change from negative to good thinking in Part 2 of the book. I couldn't wait! Had to force myself to keep reading and not jump ahead. I ordered more copies of the book to give to friends.

When I finally got to Part 2, I was so excited! Now I'm finally going to be able to make some changes! You are told to carefully ponder the questions asked during the 5 steps that are supposed to bring about the change. You are given steps, but no explanation or examples of how to use them! I was dumbfounded! How can you build me up like that then leave me hanging?! I kept reading hoping somewhere the Ahhah moment would come where it would be tied together and it would make sense. It never happened. I went from one disappointment to another and at the end disbelief.
Imagine me writing a book about troubleshooting equipment problems and giving you all kinds of wonderful information on the technology of test equipment, and building it up to sound like you were going to learn how to use it. Then I just give you information at the end on different types of test equipment, but not tell you how to use it. Leave it for you to figure out yourself.
How could someone who touts working with so many patients and students and the wonderful results achieved, not deliver! I was disgusted. Disgusted with the author, the publisher, and then with myself for wasting my money on not one but 11 copies of this tease.

This book needs to be pulled and rewritten before anyone else suffers thru what I did.

You have been warned!
