Présentation de l'éditeur
In this, the second volume in the An Eccentric in Lucca series, we once again meet the characters of COGOL - the Chamber Opera Group of Lucca - and their musical director, the Contessa di Capezzani-Batelli.
The usually placid surface of this group of talented singers - which the Contessa refers to as her "Angels" - is somewhat rippled, due to the mental collapse of the principal mezzo-soprano, shortly before a concert. A substitute has to be found at short notice and the Contessa's network of former graduates of the Royal Academy proves more than useful.
At the other end of the Italian boot, events unfold concerning a case of paternity. Landoro Taccardi, suddenly faced with the revelation that things are definitely not what he thought they were for all of his twenty-seven years, has to find a pathway to get him through the emotional upheaval...a pathway that has unexpected connections to Lucca and COGOL.
Lucca's leading accountant - a highly respected figure in local Society - is also on edge. Is there any truth in the rumour of a police crack-down on those foolish enough to engage in questionable financial dealings ?
Then there is the question of Tito Viale, henpecked husband and second tenor in COGOL - what do the Police make of his wife, crumpled on the floor outside Lucca's station at gone midnight ?
And there is always music to be prepared for COGOL's next fund-raising concert...
