Présentation de l'éditeur

ANNA -- In love with a woman he had only seen once and could not find, the Highlander, Kevin MacGreagor was growing older and needed a wife to give him sons. No other woman pleased him, not even the daughters of other lairds, so he finally settled for Anna sight unseen. But when his men went to meet her guard, she was all alone and badly beaten. Who could have done such a thing and why?

RACHEL -- had a dark secret and even she didn't know what it was. She was seventeen, determined to become as good a warrior as any Highlander, and was firmly against taking a husband. Connor had other ideas. He loved Rachel and when a rival clan took her, he thought he would lose his mind. How would he ever get her back and if he did, would her dark secret separate them forever?

CHARLET -- The King of England asked the Highlander, Kevin MacGreagor, to hide a baby girl and save her life. But sixteen years later, someone discovered where she was. To Blair Cameron fell the duty of hiding and protecting Charlet. It was not an easy task. She was furious, head-strong and determined to run from him. Could Blair keep her alive? And if he did, could he keep himself from falling in love with her?

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Awesome Beginning to a Great Saga 21 septembre 2010

I first heard of this author and this book when I was in a discussion about another book. At first, I was annoyed that the author was self-promoting in a discussion because this is my pet peeve. But then something made me take a look at the book and boy am I glad I did. I purchased it immediately and began reading it that same day. Now two weeks later, I have bags under my eyes from lack of sleep, my house is a mess, my errands are mostly undone, I blew off my friends 2 weekends in a row and been late to work. But I have read all 5 volumes and all I can say is "I want more !!" This series is awesome and I could not put the Kindle down. I feel like I have lost friends now that I have finished the 5th volume. This entire series as a whole is so wonderful but because this review is about this Volume, I will attempt to keep my remarks to this book.

When I first purchased this (Volume 1) and started reading, the book did not grab me because I could not really see where the story was going. I felt like the author rushed the story to get to the ending. Quite often, something happens or a character has knowledge he or she should not have. It was like the author was so excited to get the story out that she skipped some steps or becasue the story was so clear in her mind, she did not realize we might miss something. Also, the editing is pretty bad and there are lots of grammatical and spelling errors. These sometimes brought me out of the story. And, the heroines seemed to do alot of giggling even when this was not appropriate to the situation. These are the reasons for the loss of a star for this awesome book.

I was not impressed with Anna's story. It seemed silly and unrealistic. But then, I read the second and third stories (Rachel and Charlet) and the author started to bring the clan and village alive for me. She started to give the McGregors some history and personality and she started to weave in other characters who would be featured in later stories. But these characters were not there to set up their presence in the next books, they were there to bring the village alive and they made it real to me.

The synopsis by the publisher does a good job of summarizing the plot of each woman's story so there is no reason to go any more into that and giving more detail would give the stories away. But I will say that the romances in the book are very sweet. There is passion between the couples but these stories are "clean romance" . There are no erotic details and passion is exhibited by kissing. After marriage, marital relations are mentioned but like I said this is "clean romance".

I am one who reads everything and I did not think that a clean romance story could hold my interest but I was wrong. The meat in these stories comes from the chase and the courting and the details of clan life. And even though each story features a particular woman, this books has so much more. The McGregor clan is a close knit family with honorable ideals. These three stories are all connected through their clan affiliation and through the book, the author introduces you to the clan.

I do not know if this story is historically accurate and I do not care. It was good fiction. I would definitely recommend to anyone who like historical stories that they read this book.

I did not expect too much from this book. I got it for a discount and was looking for something easy to read that I didn't have to think too much about. Even so, this book is a disappointment. The dialog is choppy, the characters mostly bland and formless, and the book is filled with unnecessary scenes. By this I mean that a scene should show some plot progression. Half of the scenes in this book don't even do that.

Another annoying part of this book was the pacing, which was too quick when developing the main plot and too slow when getting through tedious scenes as though the idea was not properly edited or planned out. Half the time it seems like the author forgot there was meant to be a story. Random characters switch points of view from paragraph to paragraph which leaves you fed up of the story before anything has happened.

The story is also ridiculously unbelievable, from a man being allowed to keep his wife chained to a bed forever to the King of England miraculously appearing for no good reason in the flesh and seemingly alone somewhere in the Scottish highlands. It takes characters seconds to travel long distances but pages to tackle a set of stairs. And of course there is the love at first sight, but its underdeveloped and poorly handled here.

There's the potential for some good stories from this author, but the delivery is so bad the story hardly exists at all. I hope in the future for some better storytelling because the story that should have been told here got lost somewhere along the way. Even for a book that was meant to be a mindless read it was tedious to get through.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Wonderful Stories!!! 27 décembre 2010

This review will really encompass all of the Highlander Series because I think you will find it quite difficult to stop at just one! These are wonderful stories that instantly pull you into the life of the characters. You will outright giggle at times and will literally cry at others. I tend to typically not enjoy short "novella" type stories, because it never feels like there is enough time to tell a full story, but that is not the case here. Each story is beautiful and complete on each own and they flow together easily. I loved being able to know what all of the "old" characters were doing as they were revisited in many of the following stories. You will love these people and will find yourself hurting when they hurt and wondering what creative solution they will have to each problem they face. You will miss them when the series is over. There is only one other author whose books I can say that about!
The series does need an editor - what should be "patience" is often "patients", "being" was often "begin", etc. It is mildly distracting from the flow of the stories, but don't let it stop you from reading them.

Fiction, romance,Christian, historical- I would definitely recommend this book. From a distance Kevin MacGreagor, laird of the MacGreagor Clan, sees a beautiful girl with long, dark hair in a meadow with the most magnificent black horse he's ever seen. It looks as if the huge horse is about to run her down and at the last moment she grabs the horses mane and swings up on his back. She rides into the woods and Kevin tries to find her. Will he ever find the mysterious woman on the horse or will he be forced to marry someone he's never met in order to have sons? The novel is broken down into 3 short stories that progress through generations of MacGreagor's. I loved the romance in this story and it's great to read a romance without a lot of R rated details. This is the second time I've read this book. I loved the entire series and couldn't put them down.
Read The Viking first and then read Book 1 in the Highlander Series.

I admire those who share the work they create and Ms. Talbott is no exception. A great deal of effort has been put into the telling of her stories.

However, I found that the behavior of the heroines and their protectors was inconsistent with regard to the social norms and time period of clan rule in the Scottish Higlands. I also felt that the behavior of the victims was not reliable when considering what women expected of their lives and understood of their role in society during that time in history.

Also, the fact that Laird Kevin MacGregor would have allowed someone else to defend his wife's honor and his right to act as her guardian is one example of my inability to connect with the story and just one example of how the story didn't feel authentic. Especially after Laird MacGregor felt protective of his wife and his role of Laird gave him a moral obligation to act on behalf of any victim in his clan. His position of Laird plus the expectation that he would safeguard anyone in his clan also gave the story a feeling of implausibility when he allowed his wife and her mother to leave and experience freedom. Women were allowed few pleasures and freedoms before the twentieth century. He also would not have allowed a secret passage to be built because of the danger it would have presented for the entire clan. An effective and successful Laird put the needs of his people and security of his lands above the comfort of all others.

The story is a good feel good tale when the reader realizes that the author has exercised a great deal of literary license while generating an unrealistic account of possible circumstances and character behavior.
