Very fun and well thought out! 3 juillet 2009

First off, I have ALL the Arkham series games from creator Fantasy Flight Games, and with my interest in military history, I figured on giving this game a try...and I'm VERY happy that I did! The game advertises a "Pathfinding System". What this does is color code every available space on the map. If your target is on a space of the same color, you can see them. So, if you're in a room of yellow spaces, you can see all the yellow spaces in the room, but not the red ones in the next room...however, if you stand right int he doorway, your space is red AND yellow, because you can see into BOTH rooms. Once you actually get into playing this, you can't help but appreciate the innovation in making this simple yet VERY effective rule. This gets rid of arguements on "who can see who" and having obscure rules on what rooms/hallways you can see into/down.

Another cool rule is that when fielding your characters, you can pick a pre-made loadout of equipment, which gives you an extra, unique item for that character, OR you can scrap the pre-made loadouts and create your own. So if you're sick of games where one person always has a great gun but garbage secondary gear, you can now custom design your character to your specific play style.

Both above ideas seem simple, but REALLY set this game apart from other adventure/dungeon games on the market. Also, new characters, equipment and rules are being released, some of which are free on their website.

So overall, if you enjoy "run and shoot" videogames and RPG/adventure/dungeon boardgames or videogames, then I have to honestly say this is a MUST HAVE game.

Tannhauser: Even better w/revised rulebook 28 mai 2010

*Important Update to Tannhauser (This is not a full review but helpful to others)

I have this game, and it is amazing. There were many small gripes people had with this game when it first came out, and much of it had to do with unclear or unbalanced rules. However, Fantasy Flight Games recently came out (May 2010) with a revised rule book that makes a good game even better. For example, weapons, equipment, and game modes have all been altered so things make more sense when you play Tannhauser. Three things worth noting amongst the many changes: smoke grenades have been specifically altered so they're not as much of a cheap move as they used to be, victory points have been changed to command points, and dice pools have been better defined for weapons.

As of right now, Fantasy Flight Games has been selling their revised manual for five bucks off of their website, and since the game has been updated I hope in the future that the Tannhauser board game comes packaged with the revised rulebook. The amazon version currently does not have a revised rulebook (but maybe soon!). Good news though, all the pieces and bits that come with the original Tannhauser game are still applicable to the revised rulebook, so don't fret about having to buy an 'updated' version of the game.

Hope this helps some of you who were on the fence before.

Tannhauser - A fun third person tactical shooter 31 mars 2010

Tannhauser is a fun and addictive third person tactical shooter board game for two or more people.

The board is huge (a bit smaller than Arkham Horror), solid and comes with two maps for play, the rules are easy to learn for adults, and the pieces are well sculpted. Everything in this game screams Weird War II, except the fact that WWI hasn't ended yet according to the storyline.

Don't let the box fool you about the number of players. The box comes with two sets of five characters (3 heroes and 2 grunts). Technically, ten people could crowd around the board and play each character on the teams, but it's ideally for two people. Future expansions may change this, but this review is for the base Tannhauser game.

Thankfully, the base game is heavily supported by its publisher. New expansions including maps, items, solo characters, and new teams are already out and more are in production right now. Since its still growing, I recommend jumping in now and seeing what the fun is all about.

Highly recommended.

Fantasy flight really made some improvments from their other games. Line of site is clear cut, areas are well marked, characters between both sides are well balanced. A fun game for people of all levels of experience!

Excellent board game for video gaming types 12 septembre 2012

Durabilité :    Educatif:    Amusant :
I'm a video gamer at heart, but there's something to be said about the tactile feel of moving pieces around a board while relaxing with your friends instead of leaning back on the couch. I wanted to give board gaming a try, and from what I read online, Tannhauser is the perfect "board game for video gamers." I have to say that I've found this to be true -- my friends and I love this game, and we've taken it upon ourselves to actually invest in the expansions and everything.

The game is intuitive in every aspect -- no one has to cling to a rules manual after the first game to figure out how to move, attack, defend, or use equipment, and the movement system is as plain as day due to a color-coded system that makes determining line-of-sight as simple as asking, "Does the character I'm trying to attack share a space with the same color as the space my attacking character's standing on?"

Don't assume that its simplicity and intuitive gameplay means there's no room for intricate strategy! No two games have played the same, and well-considered tactics as opposed to barging in guns blazing really does pay off. This game is WELL worth the cost; and well worth expanding when you get the chance.
