Descriptions du produit

Revue de presse

This book was definitely a revelation. Fantastically planned and very easy to read, it has been a definite staple of my reference diet since the start of the academic year. It provides handy tips and ideas on dealing with students and looks at the psychology behind the whole event without once sounding patronising or condescending in any way. If you are new to education - especially further education which has a dearth of resources - this is invaluable. If you buy no other book for your educational career, you need to buy this! (Amazon Product Review 2011)

Geoff Petty - Evidence based teaching 10 octobre 2012
Par Citizen John - Publié sur
Format: Broché
I'm surprised I didn't know about Geoff Petty until recently after seeing him speak and then reading his book. He's well-known in Britain, possibly like Robert Marzano is here. In fact, he cites Marzano's work frequently.

Another of Petty's major influences is Dr. John Hattie, the Director of the Melbourne Research Institute (Australia). I saw Hattie speak in Toronto, which is where he got his Ph.D. in measurement. Hattie's main contribution is to interpret the large volume of teaching data to describe how what teachers do affect their students.

The use of scientific methods to determine the impacts that we have on others has been emphasized in many fields recently. There are practical implications, which is what Petty gets to in his book, Teaching Today. One implication is that once we know how what we do affects the students, we'll become far more effective.

Petty covers important ground in this book, including one of the best sections on classroom management that I've seen. For the most part, the content of this book relates to immediate, hands-on teaching. Small things matter more than we normally think. The accumulation of all the things teachers do shows that they wield tremendous power, in most cases more than other professionals.

Best seller in the UK 26 septembre 2008
Par G W PETTY - Publié sur
Format: Broché
This is the best selling teacher training text in the UK because it is so practical. Lots of detail on all the common teaching methods, classroom management etc. See 13 five star reviews at
Teaching in the UK and in the USA are very similar so this book should help you as much as it helps UK teachers.

Petty's other book 'Evidence Based Teaching' is based on the work of two American academics who have reviewed what works in classrooms: Professor Robert Marzano, and Professor John Hattie. this book sells very well in the UK too.Evidence Based Teaching: A Practical Approach

I recommend it for teachers, student-teachers and others working in the fields of didactics. It depicts the latest news and areas that should be considered in good effective teaching..
