I've been watching Xanthe's webcast "Ten Minutes to Table" for over a year now, and have been hoping she'd distill the show into a book. I'm so thrilled to have gotten it! It has every recipe that was in the show, and then some. It's nice to have them in print form, so I can remember details of each dish and how to prepare them. I can also access the videos from the Telegraph archives and watch while I follow along in the book. And it's is absolutely true, no fake, no off-camera gimmicks - Xanthe makes these meals, from grocery bag to plate, in ten minutes flat - sometimes even making her own bread! My next wish is that she'll do a book for her new series, "5 Minute Food!"

After a couple of months of practice, you could probably get it down to 10 minutes, but realistically, it's more like 20 minutes. And let's face it, real rice isn't going to cook in 10 minutes, no matter how much you practice.
The recipes are pretty pedestrian. You'll find much more interesting ideas with a lot more variations that are just as easy and fast in the New York Times Sunday Magazine every week.
The other problem is that this tends to prefer British measurements, which is not that big a deal, but requires a bit of mental re-jiggering from grams to whatever. It's not like we're baking here, so precision isn't really essential.
