Used it to Travel around 25 mars 2014

I've been to Thailand before, and had a Lonely Planet book for Thailand before, so this was my second use. It still shines as good as ever, but just as a side note. It's just a reference for travel. It's a great reference, and I recommend using this book always. BUT, some of the best little guest houses aren't on the map. Even the Lonely Planet map. Just a side note that's completely unrelated to the awesomeness of this book.

It lacks an index and there could be more links in the Kindle version. We found many more hotels and bungalows on, but the guide is pretty good for getting an idea where to go.
It's an ok book for general ideas on places to go. 28 mai 2013

It's an ok book for the general ideas on places to go, but it does not have much in the way of proper backpacker budget pricing. We have managed to find on our own dingy little dives in Phuket for 120baht a night, and the real cheap places to eat. Good for the flasher packer and the two to three weaker but poor on the low end budgeting backpacker.

All that said it does have great info on the country and the usual lonely planet stuff!!

I got the Kindle version of this guide and find it covers a wide range of islands and beaches, with a lot of good pointers on where to stay and eat. Definitely helpful in planning my trip.

Best used to plan which beach / island to visit 12 novembre 2013

This travel guide is one of many excellent Lonely Planet travel guides. However, I am giving only four stars in my rating because I am disappointed in the book's coverage of Bangkok.

I purchased this book as we were planning a stop in Thailand on a 2014 vacation, and wanted to see which of the island / beach resorts might be the best fit for our preferred activities / lodging styles. In that regard, the book was very helpful. I would have liked to see more four and five star lodging choices listed, and would have preferred a bit more depth of comment about various locations on Phuket Island, but for the most part the book met my expectations.

Where the book fell short of my expectations was in its coverage of Bangkok, or most specifically, suggestions for day trips outside of Bangkok. There is no discussion of Ayutthaya (Lonely Planet seems to prefer the spelling as Ayuthaya), whereas the Lonely Planet entry level travel guide "Discover Thailand" (which we took out on loan from our local library) has a good section on Ayutthaya. I would expect most visitors to Thailand include Bangkok in their itinerary, and I think this book would be more useful with expanded coverage of Bangkok and surrounding areas. Ironically, Ancient City, which is somewhat east of Bangkok proper, but with much less historical significance than Ayutthaya, is referenced as a sightseeing option while in Bangkok. With this shortcoming, unfortunately, I do not expect to rely on this travel guide while on the ground in Thailand.
