Présentation de l'éditeur

Narrated by the author

Written with the assured style and wit of a natural raconteur, this hugely entertaining and insightful autobiography takes us from Suggs colourful early life on a North London council estate, through the heady early days of Punk and 2-Tone, to the eighties, where Madness became the biggest selling singles band of the decade.

Along the way he tells us what it's like to go globetrotting with your best mates, to sign away your entire song rights 'in perpetuity' and cause an earthquake in Finsbury Park. Suggs is a singer, songwriter, DJ, actor and TV presenter. He is perhaps best known as lead singer with Madness, who have had 24 top-twenty hits and continue to tour.

This recording is unabridged. Typically abridged audiobooks are not more than 60% of the author's work and as low as 30% with characters and plotlines removed. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition CD .

Welcome To The Life Of Fun! 1 novembre 2013

If you read and enjoyed Spike Milligan's books about his life, then you'll enjoy Suggs "That Close" about his own life.

The book doesn't follow an exact timeline and can be a bit sporadic at times, but with pun intended, there is a method to Suggs Madness!

I was laughing out loud at the Nutty frontman's experiences in Italy, as I was certainly able to relate to them!

In fact, being a Maddy fan from year dot, I was able to relate to a lot of Suggs life journey, which definitely helped in enjoying this book as much as I did. Not sure how non-fans (if any do indeed exist?) would enjoy or understand some of this autobiography? As a consequence, I probably should only offer this book a 4 star rating.....but I can't! I'm a fan through & through and thoroughly enjoyed this long overdue read!

So yes, I do recommend this book. Thanks for sharing, Suggs!

An excellent insight into the life and times of Suggs, his upbringing, interests and how the band Madness formed. His personal life and style around the 70's and 80's really gives a insight into the lyrics of the bands songs - Baggy Trousers and his school years could have been written for me, and indeed a lot of us who suffered from a UK education around that time.

Not so much a history of Madness, although the book touches on this a fair bit - but a must read for any fan or music buff.

I particularly enjoyed reading about his connections with other bands around that time, and their influence on him, and the book is full of amusing anecdotes ( I must ask Barrie from Eddie and the Hotrods about the Tippex next time I see him!).
Suggs Sits Down ... 19 février 2015

This is an interesting book. I was expecting more of the story of how Madness formed, their trials and tribulations, and finally their comeback. Instead, that's almost a sideline as Suggs details various bits and pieces of his life. It's quite like sitting in the bar, listening to an old friend catch you up on the things he's done since you last saw him.

And that's quite nice!
Madness!! 13 juin 2014

Well everyone thought I was mad, sitting on the bus on the way to work laughing out loud whilst reading this book!

I loved it - witty, self-effacing and honest.

Even if you are not a Madness fan, (is there such a thing?!) it is still a great read.

Maybe as a lifelong Madness fan with a serious crush on the one and only Suggs I am slightly(!) biased, but I really cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Thank you Mr McPherson for brightening up my mornings!!

This book is very interesting but it does not follow a linear narrative. One minute Suggs is talking about the film clip for "House of Fun" then he lapses into a childhood memory (which lets face it ain't that interesting). I stopped reading the book about a third of the way through after yet another mind numbingly boring passage about his wife and kids! If you are interested in Suggs the man then this book is for you. However, if you want a warts and all account of the rise and fall of Madness then you should definitely avoid.
