Présentation de l'éditeur

If you are an ACT practitioner or mental health professional, this eagerly awaited resource is an essential addition to your professional library.

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based therapy that has been successful in treating a variety of psychological issues, such anxiety, depression, substance abuse, trauma, eating disorders, and more. In contrast to other treatment options, ACT has proven extremely effective in helping clients who are “stuck” in unhealthy thought patterns by encouraging them align their values with their thoughts and actions. However, the ACT model is complex, and it’s not always easy to use.

Traditionally, ACT is delivered with a focus around six core processes that are often referred to as the hexaflex: cognitive defusion, acceptance, contact with the present moment, observing the self, values, and committed action. Each of these core processes serves a specific function, but they are often made more complex than needed in both theory and in practice. So what if there was a way to simplify ACT in your sessions with clients?

Edited by clinical psychologists and popular ACT workshop leaders Kevin L. Polk and Benjamin Schoendorff, The ACT Matrix fuses the six core principles of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) into a simplified, easy-to-apply approach that focuses on client actions and behavior as workable or unworkable, rather than good or bad. Most importantly, you’ll learn how this innovative approach can be used to deliver ACT more effectively in a variety of settings and contexts, even when clients are resistant or unmotivated to participate.

This is the first book to utilize the ACT Matrix model, and it is a must-read for any ACT practitioner looking to streamline his or her therapeutic approach.

Wow! This book deserves more than 5 stars. I have read many many books on ACT and each brought me something, some piece of the puzzle . This book is like a synthesis of ACT. At first, I didn't quite understand where this little diagram was taking me. I was used to the hexaflex model. But when I got it, I was so excited by this matrix than I had trouble putting the book down. I'm only halfway through but I can already say this book was worth my time and money. I would recommend it to every person interested in ACT. You can use the matrix with your clients, with yourself, helping friends. I really loved the clinical parts where the authors talk about real cases and how they used the matrix. Congratulations!

This book offers so much in not too many pages! I already use the matrix in my practice and greatly appreciate its elegance and utility. Each chapter of this book offers another angle on how to apply this valuable tool. I highly recommend investing in reading this latest offering from the ACT community.

This is an excellent book about a practical approach to ACT. It is devoted to The Matrix, an apparently simple tool which helps clients and therapists increase their psychological flexibility.

Matrix implementation is presented by clinicians from different fields. In many cases they explain with suffcient detaiul how they use it and even which words they use with their clients. This makes the book very useful.

This presentation of the same tool from different angles makes of the book a gem, because every chapter increases a little bit more your understanding of this way of presenting psychological functioning.

I do recommend this book to anyone interested in seeing their (and their clients or friends) experience with a different lens

I've tried to read lots of ACT books. LOTS. They are all absolutely terrific, but I'm a little slow and easily overwhelmed. The ACT Matrix nails it. I read it halfway through on an airplane and hit the ground running with clients the next day. WOW. I did not think anything could take the work of Dr. Hayes and Dr. Wilson to a new level, but this does. ACT gave me a theoretical orientation for psychotherapy that I could put my whole heart and soul into. The Matrix made that oriention come alive in session. I cannot overstate this for my colleagues who want to help their clients......The ACT Matrix, from PAGE ONE, just WORKS.
