Awe-inspiring pen and ink art 17 avril 2014
Par Parka - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié
British artist Ian Miller (1946) is best known for his gothic and macabre style. Combine that with meticulous pen and ink technique, you have a visually striking image with details that hold your attention, inviting you to pore over each area of the artwork.

This book contains artworks from his career of over 40 years. He has illustrated for magazines, books, and also created concept art such as for Warhammer 40,000. You'll see both his commissioned works as well as personal pieces.

There aren't any chapters but the artworks featured are grouped by subject matter. You'll see dragons, ghoulish warriors and soldiers, fantasy creatures, mechanical contraptions, castles and landscapes, and other nightmarish subjects from his imagination. You'll notice that he's inspired by fishes, robots, and mechanical things. Ian Miller presents his own twist to those subjects and they often look surreal. He also has commentary for selected pieces of work.

One highlight of the book besides the subject matter is the pen and ink technique used. The illustrations when you look closer are created with lines carefully hatched. The form, light and shadows are all created by the amazing line art. Each illustration must have taken an insane amount of time to finish. Many are full page artworks in this book.

It's a great book.

An INCREDIBLE retrospective! 16 avril 2014

Received "The Art of Ian Miller" yesterday and am simply blown away!

I've been exposed to some of Miller's art over the years (primarily through older UK paperbacks), and when this book was announced I did a quick Google image search and saw that his work looked even more up my alley than I would have expected.

So I eagerly opened the box from Amazon yesterday and ended up getting completely lost in this book for almost an hour. It was a darkly magical experience!

This book has great production values: perfect size and form factor, nice paper, logical presentation of Miller's dense and hyperimaginative illustrations, well-printed and color-corrected reproductions, etc. For overall effect, I'd put "The Art of Ian Miller" up there with the Underwood Frazetta trilogy - it's just that good!

I don't know if they give out World Fantasy Awards for art books, but if they do "The Art of Ian Miller" deserves one.

Hard to give this anything aside from an exceptional rating as i've always had pretty high opinions of his art.
There is enough diversity in the included selections that you are almost certain to encounter pieces you've not yet seen.
An incredible collection of art that i for one, am extremely happy with!

As an overview of Ian Miller's career as an illustrator this is indeed a wonderful collection, with excellent production standards. To have such a book about Ian was well overdue and this one was well worth the wait.

A tremendous compilation of work from an artist with a truly unique and important voice. His influence can be felt through my own owrk and the work of many other artists of this and the last generation.
