Présentation de l'éditeur

The first point which it is necessary to make clear in describing this astral plane is its absolute reality. Of course in using that word I am not speaking from that metaphysical standpoint from which all but the One Unmanifested is unreal because impermanent; I am using the word in its plain, every-day sense, and I mean by it that the objects and inhabitants of the astral plane are real in exactly the same way as our own bodies, our furniture, our houses or monuments are real—as real as Charing Cross, to quote an expressive remark from one of the earliest Theosophical works. They will no more endure for ever than will objects on the physical plane, but they are nevertheless realities from our point of view while they last—realities which we cannot afford to ignore merely because the majority of mankind is as yet unconscious, or but vaguely conscious, of their existence. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

Biographie de l'auteur

Charles Webster Leadbeater (16 February 1854 – 1 March 1934) was an influential member of the Theosophical Society, author on occult subjects and co-initiator with J. I. Wedgwood of the Liberal Catholic Church. Originally a priest of the Church of England, his interest in spiritualism caused him to end his affiliation with Anglicanism in favour of the Theosophical Society, where he became an associate of Annie Besant. He became a high-ranking officer of the society, but resigned in 1906 after accusations that he had engaged in sex (mutual masturbation) with teenage boys in his care. With Besant's assistance he was readmitted a few years later. Similar rumours occurred throughout his career, but Leadbeater's talents as a prolific author on occultism kept him an important presence in Theosophy until his death in 1934. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

Ecrit par un célèbre voyant plus ou moins inconnu en France, évidemment, car ici nous protégeons "les nôtres" au détriment des autres. Dommage.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Manual No.5 20 mai 2006
Par OAKSHAMAN - Publié sur
_Among adepts this remarkable book is simply refered to as "Manual No.5" (that was it's old Theosophical Society designation.) When it was penned in 1894 this book was unique. This is because prior to that time all books on the subject were traditionlly written in an obscure and metaphorical manner. Bishop Leadbeater changed all that- he took 19th century scientific objectivism and applied it to the most mystical and subjective of studies. The result is a virtual Baedecker (travel book) of the astral realms. This was the first modern English language text to be included in the permanent collection of the Brotherhood. This book opened, and continues to open, doors.

_Briefly, this little volume, covers: scenary, inhabitants, and phenomena of the astral realm. Since this is the realm most closely in contact with our own it can be a most useful and practical guide book. For instance, you will find summarised here more real facts on black magicians, elementals, shades, vampires, and werewolves than in many thicker, more "modern" volumes.

_Not only does this subtle world actually exist, but we would be unable to function in the corporeal world if we could not access it. Think of it as the psychic atmosphere that surrounding the earth, pervades all corporeal bodies, and is the vehicle of life. It isn't anywhere near the highest of the planes, but it is a most interesting one. Think of it as your first, local, stop.

This is a book that I lost somewhere. When I saw it on Kindle I decided to return it to my reading library. I think Leadbeater was the real deal. He could see what he wrote about. The book is old fashioned in that it does not have the writing style of more modern day books, but it is packed with information that should satisfy the reader interested in this topic. Highly recommended.

Overall, there is some very good information in this book, but it takes awhile to unearth any of it, given the writing style of the early 20th century which tends towards prose. But the biggest hindrance was by far the fact that this is a photocopy, and a very poor one at that! Some pages are barely legible because the print is so very light. I can't speak for the other versions that are available on Amazon. I opted for this one because of the lower price, so either I got what I paid for, or the rest are like this as well. Save yourself some cash and trouble -- google Theosophy manual 5 and read it online!

I really enjoyed this book. I helped me to understand the various spirit inhabitants and how they operate on the astral plane. The author is really knowledgeable.
