Attachment parenting is a gentle, reasonable approach to parenting that stresses bonding with your baby, responding to her cues, breastfeeding, "wearing" your baby, and sharing sleep with your child. William and Martha Sears, a pediatrician and a registered nurse respectively, team up with two of their doctor sons to update their 1993 guide to "attachment parenting." Advocating a "high-touch style of parenting to balance the high-tech life of the new millennium," the authors teach new parents how to bond with their babies through seven fundamental behaviors, including breastfeeding, "babywearing" and setting proper boundaries. When parents keep close to their babies by bringing them into bed at night and picking them up when they cry, the infants develop better, the authors argue; rather than becoming spoiled, they become more healthy and independent. From tips for a healthy birth, getting your baby to sleep and feeding him the "right fats," to information about early health concerns, the major steps in infant development and troublesome but typical toddler behavior, the authors of this comprehensive volume (who share their own parenting experiences along the way) are assured and reassuring experts.

J'ai découvert ce livre par hasard sur amazon.com, alors que j'attendais mon premier enfant.Ce livre, sous beaucoup d'aspects, est génial. Il faut avant tout savoir (et je ne le savais pas à l'époque) qu'il y a des écoles de pensée pour tout ce qui regarde les enfants. Leur approche, même si je ne la suis pas complètement, est interessante. Je ne suis pas une de ces mères qui laisse pleurer les enfants tout le temps. Clairement je n'ai pas allaité si tard, et mes enfants ne dorment pas avec moi. Mais le fond de leur pensée est: "ne creez pas des barières artificielles, éducatives, entre vous et vos enfants". Et je suis ce point de vue. Je souligne entre autre, que je n'ai pas encore trouvé dans la litterature de ce sujet des livres aussi bien faits en français. After the many words of advice about books to buy regarding my new baby, I decided to buy two books, this and Gina Ford's much debated book. I would say it is easy to se Gina has no children and easy to see that Dr Sears and his wife have the joys of being able to run their lives around their children. Great news for all of them, but for someone who very much loves her children but has to go out to work,a nd has other children to get to school and so on, neither book really solves a problem. What they did do however was to provide me with two ends of a scale, and I have gone somewhere in the middle with my baby. Successfully might I add. My advice is: if you are going to buy a baby book, buy more then one but ultimately take a bit from each and go with what feels right for you.

To my mind this book gives responses to a lot of questions "attached" parents may have. Easy to understand the Sears' approach and to value their practice as Pediatrics specialists and parents of 8 children. Excellent and a very complete guide!
