When I first got this book, I was actually prepared to hate it, because it was much thinner than I expected. I think I was expecting more of a "recipe"-style book, with hundreds of pages of recipes in it. However, when I got to reading it, I actually found it to be very helpful. I'm obviously new to vegan cooking, and I've experimented with a few recipes so far, but this book was very helpful because, rather than going into tons of recipes, it laid out a lot of the basic principles for cooking without animal products. It has sections about how to replace eggs, how to replace buttermilk, etc, that have allowed me to get a little creative and "resurrect" some of my old recipes that contain animal products. There was also a very helpful section on "hidden" animal products to watch out for in food, which I found very useful (you'll never believe how many things have animal products in them!)

There are about a dozen recipes in the book, and although I would have appreciated more, the ones included have been very good (I've especially been enjoying the bruschetta recipe lately). Although the book is a little slim for my tastes (the main reason why I gave it four stars, rather than five), as a "beginner" in the realm of vegan cooking I found it very helpful, and for people like me who are just getting started in this area, I think it makes a really good, simple, practical introduction to the subject.

This book MIGHT be useful if you have no idea, at all, what vegan is. But you could get more complete info from any simple web search. If you are a vegan or are thinking of becoming one, don't waste your time!

This is a rip-off book. Aside from being poorly organized and written, it is a 70 page book (as listed) but has a lot of extra spacing throughout the entire book. Several pages are blank or over half empty. The rest of the pages contain large spacing and many bullet-point listings to really stretch-out this book to 70 pages. The printing is poorly done with ink blotches on several pages as well.
The quality of the material is mediocre. It is informative, but nothing special. For the same price you can buy one of the other cookbooks with many more recipes and a good introduction that includes most of the information in this book. The rest is all available online for free.

Bottom line- This information should be condensed to a 20 page booklet for about $3-5 to make it a good purchase. As it is, it is a rip-off.
