Présentation de l'éditeur

As the son of the prophet of Blister Creek, a polygamous enclave in Utah, Dr. Jacob Christianson has struggled for years to reconcile his faith with his skepticism about the fundamentalist practices of his community. Nevertheless, when his family and neighbors were threatened, Jacob stepped up time and again to lead the fight against those who would destroy them. Now Jacob and the residents of Blister Creek face a dangerous new challenge to their quiet existence. Taylor Kimball Jr. wants to take over as prophet of Blister Creek—and he wants Jacob’s sister Eliza by his side when he does it. With no room for personal reservations, Jacob forms a tenuous alliance with his father and the FBI. But Taylor Junior is as crafty as he is brutal, anticipating Jacob’s plan and drawing him out to leave Blister Creek vulnerable to attack. And this time Taylor has come prepared, with a horrific new weapon capable of annihilating Blister Creek. If he has any chance of winning this fight, Jacob will have to decide, once and for all, just how far he is willing to go to protect his community. The fourth in Michael Wallace’s riveting Righteous series, The Blessed and the Damned raises the stakes in Jacob’s world to dizzying new heights.

I received an advance Kindle copy of the book from the author.
I have read this series from the beginning and it is one of my favorites. This hooked me from the beginning and I really liked having Eliza in a main role again. I did bog down in so many desert scenes. Hard to understand and keep straight who was doing what where....... :) The words did paint a magnificent desert scene though.
You should read the first in this series The Righteous (Righteous Series #1) to get the full impact of the characters.
If you liked Big Love the Hbo Series you will enjoy this. I had a sister involved in fundamental Mormonism polygamy and it was a nightmare. This really is not to far fetched for fiction.
I read this in a day, hard to put down, it kept pulling me back. I wish Michael Wallace could write as fast as I read.
4 Stars!!!

What an amazing book!!! I love this series so much. I discovered the first 3 last spring. I think the first one was a kindle freebie, then I found a deal of the day on the next 2 and got them for like .99 apiece. I was hooked by then, and have been waiting for this one to come out on October 2, ever since. So, happy day, it was automatically delivered to my Kindle on October 2nd at 12:01 am and I have been avidly reading it since that morning. I can say this much to fans of the series: This book does not disappoint.

"The Righteous" series books are thrillers, and the action is riveting. They are set in polygamist fundamentalist communities in the desert of Utah. For those of you who've watched Big Love, think about "the compound". It really seems to me that this author could have grown up in such a community. He paints such a vivid picture of the people, the beliefs, the way they talk, how they live, with the skill of one who is intimately familiar with this type of life. And his descriptions of the landscape, the desert, are breathtaking. The desert itself is so vital and well portrayed that it is almost a character in the story as well. But the author does not appear to be pushing any certain agenda. There are characters who wholeheartedly believe in their religion, characters who doubt. Characters who want to live in the traditional way, and characters who seem determined to bring change. Plenty of deluded megalomaniac would-be prophets running around the canyons, FBI agents investigating them for welfare fraud, people who left the enclaves for the "lone and dreary world" and outsiders who were inspired by what they found there and stayed. Somehow, the author manages to make every one of them sympathetic and appealing. He draws the reader into the internal conflicts and motivations of the characters so compellingly.

And wow, can he write suspenseful, yet entertaining scenes. Without giving away too much detail for those who have not read, the scene that included a car packed with unlikely allies racing to the scene of the action when there was a conflict among several of the car's occupants and the driver about which way to proceed had me glued to the page. I could just imagine the car swerving around on the deserted highway as its occupants bickered and wrestled for control of the steering wheel. I never knew what was going to happen next. The book was absolutely a wild ride.

I love this series so much that after reading them, I ordered the first 3 in dead tree format and had them shipped to my sister, commanding her to read them. She has read the first one, I think she liked it, but her reading list got sidetracked when somebody loaned her the 50 Shades of Grey series (really?? REALLY?) and hasn't read the next 2. Yet. If she does, I will insist that she read this one as well. i have high hopes that this series will continue...the ending definitely left a mystery, and the characters have developed so much over the course of these books. Yet even more happened in this book that leaves me dying to see what will happen to them next.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Another good one in The Righteous Series #4 2 octobre 2012

Welcome to the fictional world of polygamous Mormons. On the whole, the women are cooperative and get along well. But those male hormones! Oh my goodness, the schism between the original patriarch Abraham Christianson and the apostate (according to Christianson) leader Taylor Kimball is nasty and bloody. And Taylor Junior is as nasty a piece of work as you've ever met. Yet this is a real page turner. Especially when the narrative involves stolen chemical weapons which ...well, never mind. Read it and find out what happens. The plot is imaginative. Many of the characters are complex and interesting. By the way, if you've read any of the earlier books about the fictional Mormon encampments, you may expect to meet characters from those books once more. Kudos to Michael Wallace.

I am really enjoying this series. After the last (third) installment, I was a bit disappointed and felt that maybe the author had lost focus. This one is much better, and I found myself enjoying the storyline and the characters with a renewed sense of interest. Granted, some of the plot seems a bit far fetched, but the author manages to bring it together fairly well. I won't go into a lot of detail on the plot, I think the other reviews have probably given enough of the plot. The series is easy to follow, and even if you end up reading them out of order you will be able to follow the story.

I'm really enjoying this series, although I began reading it out of order. Wallace is not the greatest author, but the story is good, the background is better, and I particularly like the over-arching story arc. This arc appears to be the development of Jacob Christianson, a doctor and skeptic who was raised in a polygamous Mormon sect, into a religious leader who may be facing the End of Days. He's a reluctant leader who doesn't buy into all the tenets of his faith, but seems to be pushed by events outside his control. The background of each book (this is the 4th in the series and it's obvious that more are to follow) is small-town life among fundamentalist polygamists, which is always interesting, though sometimes repellant. The women, though largely portrayed as strong and intelligent, are too often under the thumb of a purely patriarchal society. Another facet of the story arc is an enemy, Taylor Kimball Jr, who is out to destroy the Christiansons and many others. This entry in the series seems more suspenseful to me than previous books, possibly because my favorite character, Fernie (Jacob's wife), is in real peril. Although the author isn't very good at portraying deep emotions, Fernie is very well drawn and I find her the most likeable, followed by Eliza (Jacob's sister, who is trying not to become the third or fourth wife of a much older man), who was the main focus of the previous book. I'm now looking forward to the next book, but I also hope that this series doesn't go on for too long. The basic premise of attacks on small towns may grow stale after a while, so I think it would be best if Jacob Christianson reaches his (unwanted) goal and his enemies get their just desserts.
