Présentation de l'éditeur

The Greatest Western Writer Of The 21st Century

William W. Johnstone, the USA Today bestselling master of the epic Western, continues the thrilling saga of the O'Brien brothers--Samuel, Jacob, Shawn, and Patrick--as they forge their destiny in the untamed New Mexico Territory and stake their claim in frontier America.

Death Rules The Night

They ride after sundown. Black robed figures with skulls for faces, terrorizing the town of Recoil like the horsemen of the Apocalypse. If the sheriff hopes to defeat this hellish band of outlaws, he'll need back-up. Enter Colonel Shamus O'Brien. The seasoned ranchhand and patriarch has fought off more than his share of horse thieves and marauders. But he's never seen anything like these ornery devils. They torch the town without warning, killing and destroying everything in sight. Shamus could use some extra firepower, namely his sons Shawn and Jacob. But the O'Brien brothers have problems of their own. Vicious banditos have targeted the family ranch, gunning for gold and cattle in a hailstorm of bullets and bloodshed. But both cutthroat gangs are about to learn their lesson--the hard way. When you cross an O'Brien, there's hell to pay. . .

You have the Colonel and his sidekick fighting one group of outlaws and you have the boys at the ranch fighting another group. Either one would have made a pretty good story by itself but the book kept jumping back and forth between the two.

The boys finally take care of their problem and they do get together for the final few pages but to me it was confusing. I nearly quit reading the book a few times before finally finishing it.

The O'Brien family is divided in THE KILLING SEASON. Colonel Shamus O'Brien and his segundo and friend Luther Ironside have gone off to help an old friend from the war. The brothers have a band of Mexican outlaws who want to sack Dromore and burn it to the ground.

The Colonel's old friend is sheriff of the town of Recoil, being besieged by a band lead by a pirate who's moved his operations to land> He leads a group trying to drive everyone out of the valley, disguised in robes and skull masks. They kill, burn, whatever it takes.

The brothers are hit on by a band of cutthroats lead by Alviro Castillo. They try intimidation first, then threats, and then make the mistake of taking one of the brothers.

Lots of action as the O'Brien family deal with threats on two fronts.

Liked this one.

As far as the novel goes, I’ll give it a C-. I kept turning the pages and actually finished it, but I didn’t get what I paid for.

What a scam—a total, unabashed scam this novel is. A con. Maybe I should consider a class action lawsuit against the Johnstone estate as well as Kensington Publishing Corp. Why? Well, The Killing Season was no more written by W.W.J. than it was written by me. Hell, put my name on the novel. Hell, put Stephen King’s name on the novel. How about Dickens?

I thought I was buying a novel written by W.W.J. and instead learned that he has been dead for over a decade. A decade! But the potential customer is not made aware of this by reading the inside back cover. “William W. Johnstone is the USA Today and New York Times bestselling author…” IS? IS? How about was? Sure, there is a past tense word thrown in here and there, but it appears the publisher and estate went to great lengths to keep Johnstone alive.

WAIT! Doing a little digging on the internet, it seems that when he died in 2004, the estate went to great lengths to COVER UP his death, and for 3 years, he was still “alive” and cranking out the books. WHAT? Are you kidding me? This is the height of greed. Talk about swindling the customer.

Now, buried within the front matter of the book is both an admission of his death and yet another insult. “The Johnstone family is working with a carefully selected writer to organize and complete Mr. Johnstone’s outlines and many unfinished manuscripts to create additional novels…This novel was inspired by Mr. Johnstone’s superb storytelling.” What? Are you serious? Even his nephew, J.A. Johnstone, had nothing to do with the actual writing of the novel. A “carefully selected writer” did.

Someone tell me how this is not a crime? Tell me how this does not break multiple laws.

And now, the brand new novel by the great Herman Melville, Moby Dick Part 2.

Charles Dickens just came out with a new novel for 2015: A Christmas Carol Part 2.

Shame on you Kensington Publishing. Shame on you Johnstone estate. Your greed is astonishing. Your actions are nauseating. Trying to cover up the death of W.W.J. for three years, and then continue to publish novels under his name as if he were alive, as if he had anything to do with them other than they are westerns, has made me put ANY book published by Kensington and ANY novel that has ANYTHING to do with the Johnstones, on my Do Not Read list.

Into the fire goes The Killing Season.

Another fast paced adventure with the Johnstone"s characters the O'Brien's. A great story that will grab you and pull you in from the very beginning. The only drawback is you will finish all to quickly.

I liked this book a LOT. A lot of action, great story about the brothers looking out for one another. I really enjoyed the Western setting, and true-to-life Western culture.
