4.0 étoiles sur 5 Interesting Cultural Nuances Amidst a Thrilling Jaunt 21 novembre 2014
Par Tinfoot - Publié sur Amazon.com

Yes, certainly THE CHICKEN AND THE QUAIL could benefit a thorough run by a copy writer, but as one who enjoys international voices in literature, I did not mind the occasional technical error that crops up in the text- in the grand scale of such works, Nissar Ahmed A. Naik has done a good job. And, yes, there is an abundance of what one may consider superfluous details, yet again, I am also one of those who relished Robert Jordan's fascination with minutiae in his WHEEL OF TIME epic. On one hand, excising such side meanderings could lead to tauter story, yet on the other, any excuse to linger as much as possible in a story is good enough for me.

On the whole, I did enjoy this thrilling jaunt, picking up interesting cultural nuances within the various locales that Naik employs. And this latter aspect is precisely the reason I warmly embrace international literature and recommend to those who hold the same keen interest as I.

-- I received a free copy of the aforementioned book in exchange for a candid review. I have very eclectic tastes, and strive for some objectivity in final evaluations, yet my personal preferences are inherently inescapable. I strive not to give synopsis, but a view of the general content, presentation style, and aspects of potential interest that may pertain to your reading choice.

This book made me lose a few hours of sleep. I simply had to finish it. The book turns out better than the synopsis promises.
The author really makes his readers think.
Some segments were a little drawn out, with irrelevant details, but overall I really enjoyed reading this book.
It is quite obvious to me that English is not the author's native language.
Although grammatically correct, in some places it sounds a little stiff and stilted.
That's the main reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars.

This is an enjoyable book with a lot of local color (London, Mumbai, Singapore). The characters are psychologically realistic and attractive, and the plot is interesting and page-turning. I also enjoyed the historical and business insights.

I liked the nonlinear aspect of the plot, where there is some back and forth in time which helps add to the mystery and then gradually reveals the characters' motivations. The only point where I thought this was too confusing was in Chapter 2, where it seemed like there might be two versions of one of the main characters - poetically true in a way but maybe implies the plot will be more science fiction than it actually is. I would actually advertise this as a medical thriller, set in the modern world with one science fiction element, rather than science fiction per se. That would manage reader expectations and potentially reach a larger audience - though (potential spoiler alert) the novel does pay homage to an early 19th century work of science fiction. (End spoiler alert.)

The English in the book is simply the English of someone from India, and anyone who is familiar with how Indians speak English will have no problem with it.

I hope Mr. Naik tries his hand at another novel one day.

This book starts off innocuously and races off at breakneck speed. I finished this book in two sittings. Its good to note that this is a sci-fi thriller so that your expectations are set when reading.

The story is about Yogesh Shukla's death and subsequent sightings confirming him to be still alive. The police get involved and the chase is on. The author leads us through various twists and turns to the startling climax.

The author has a vast knowledge of various fields and has used them very effectively throughout the story. The author guides us through immigration checks, police procedures, neurology, migration history of ethnic groups, etc.

This book breaks the border of moral and legal issues, and their ramifications in light of our scientific progress. I can easily envisage this being made in a movie.

Bottomline: Read this book for its fast paced entertainment... and be prepared to be overwhelmed by the ending. My mind is still wobbling.
2.0 étoiles sur 5 Interesting story can't redeem the poor writing 19 décembre 2014

The writing is bad due to poor editing and no concept of english sentencing. I found the characters interesting enough, but not enough to really get into their ordeal, because I spent more time figuring out, what is the writer trying to say, than on the story. I would recommend getting a professional editor, or work on to improve the writing.
