Présentation de l'éditeur

When Shea Baker, freelance writer, picked up a small cluster of knotted threads dropped by an enraged man on his way out of an upscale antiquities gallery, little did he know he would plunged headlong into a mystery of biblical proportions. The threads, later identified as a tassel, purportedly came from the healing cloak of Jesus, a garment that for centuries lay hidden deep in the underground vaults of the Iraq National Museum. Now, the cloak has been found, and it is about to make headlines around the world as it heals the sick.

To some, making this ancient garment available to heal the masses would be an act of compassion. However altruistic, others believe it to be a totally misguided act--one that would instantly fling the world into theological, political, economic and logistical chaos.

Set in Iraq, South Florida, and Jerusalem, the story gives a fascinating look at biblical archaeological history and leads the reader on a hunt for the mysterious relic. Along the way, a number of intriguing characters are introduced, each with his or her own reasons for wanting to possess the power of the ancient healing cloak.

En savoir plus sur l'auteur

I am a Florida History Detective. I love Florida history and am committed to finding buried, forgotten, or unusual stories and bringing them to my readers in a compelling manner. The heart of any community is in the history of its people, and my goal is to ferret out those stories. I have written seven fiction and nonfiction books

As a journalist, I have interviewed Olympic champions, world-renowned men-of-the-cloth, Carnegie Hall performers, high-powered developers, politicians and TV personalities. I have covered Mickey Mantle memorabilia, World World II exhibits, historic walking tours, restaurateurs and entrepreneurs.

For four years, I was a special correspondent for the Sun Sentinel newspaper where hundreds of my articles appeared in the Community News section. And as a freelance journalist, dozens of my articles appeared in Boca Raton, Gold Coast, Boca Life, Delray Beach, Palm Beacher and Carolina Bride magazines.

I have shared my stories with audiences at numerous educational institutions, social and philanthropic organizations, and historical societies throughout Florida. I enjoy speaking about Florida's rich history, and never miss an opportunity to talk with students about writing, and the excitement of discovering a good story.

I have been a guest on NPR (National Public Radio and TV) many times, and am a guest lecturer with the Life Long Learning Society at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.

Based upon my book "Run the Rum In," I was associate producer and on-camera speaker in WLRN's documentary "Prohibition and the South Florida Connection" that premiered November 2011. And I participated in a series entitled "Gangsters" for the National Geographic Channel in 2010.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Pleasant Enough... 29 mai 2015

While I'm a fan of books about religious mysteries, The Cloak didn't get my heart racing as other books did. The story is pleasant and started well but the pace was somewhat uneven and the characters quite two-dimensional. Not the worse nor the best in the genre. Some editing issues require another read through.

If you are a fan of fiction stories sprinkled with fact, you'll enjoy this intriguing mystery. I found "The Cloak" to be imaginative as well as factual regarding some of the miracles and events recorded in the New Testament. It is thought provoking and inspirational, which causes one to consider the merit of belief. A worthy read!

If you suddenly possessed the power to change the world for what you thought was the best, would you or should you do it? This is the underlying question in "The Cloak," by Sally J. Ling. That Ling is a talented writer, an accomplished researcher and a knowledgeable student of the bible is obvious in this very entertaining read. Thought-provoking, educational and amusing, it's a can't-miss combination. The story has a clever plot involving the discovery of a mysterious ancient tassel, which takes the reader from Florida to Jerusalem, in search of answers. Unlike the typical 'whodunit,' it delves into the question of faith, always interesting to ponder. I particularly enjoyed the congenial main character, Shea Baker, and his relationship with his much-adored wife, Rosa. I look forward to the next Shea Baker Mystery in Ling's series, now in the works

I was willing to give this book a chance as it was free. Many editing errors and very two dimensional characters. While the Indiana Jones style is fun, there is a lot to be said for people and institutions -religious or otherwise- making things more significant than the Man/God. I trust the next stories will have more depth of character and maybe a bit more scenic description to add to the reader's experience.

I am not much of a reader of novels primarily because I spend a lot of time my time reading non fiction and teaching book by various pastors. I had the chance to hear the author of The Cloak speak and was interested in her knowledge of biblical history and culture which made me look it up as soon as I got the chance. I downloaded the book on my Kindle and curiously began to read, not really knowing what to expect. I found myself immediately captivated by the characters and the story line made it very difficult to put the book down without wanting to pick it right back up. I noticed my heart racing as the characters faced danger and my wife could tell you how much I enjoyed it from hearing my chuckles from the other room as the authors sense of humor comes through well in her writings. I look forward to future adventures of Shea Baker and eagerly awaiting the next case. Thank you Ms. Ling for sharing your gifts with us.

Although I wrote a review several days ago it hasn't shown up so I am trying again. Ms Ling's book was fascinating throughout and I only put the book down once - even families have to be tended to. I look forward to the continuing adventures of Shea Baker and the other characters that are developing in this series. Her descriptions vividly conjured up street scenes and captured the scent of the moment - I could smell the spices as well as the dirt in the air. Good read. More please.
