Présentation de l'éditeur

Here is a book for fly tiers, beginners and experts alike, that provides foolproof directions for tying all types of flies. Unlike specialized books that describe particular types or styles of flies, this book covers them all—both freshwater and saltwater flies. Dry flies for trout, streamers for tarpon, hair bugs for bass: you will find them here. Eric Leiser teaches the basic methods for tying standard dries, hair dries, parachute dries, hackleless flies, wets, nymphs, streamers, Jassids and other terrestrials, and more. Whether you're a seasoned tier looking for specific advice, or you're brand new to the craft and just want the fundamentals, this book is a complete education.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This is a must read. 14 juin 2010

I've read some negative reviews of this book which mostly center around the antiquated format. I agree that the photographs are, by today's standards, of poor quality. The drawings are very good quality though. This is the ONLY bad thing I can say about this book. Its CONTENT is, simply put, enlightening. I've been tying casually for a few years, and I've recently committed to stepping up my game. This book has really helped me toward that goal.

The author really opened my eyes to the techniques that some of the great fly tiers use to produce first rate flies. For example, he goes into a lot of detail about choosing the best feathers for a given tie. This is something I hadn't thought much about before. It has really changed how I view my purchase of materials. Mr. Leiser also gives many many tips on how to simplify the construction of common patterns that are still used today. It really is full of good information.

Thank you, Mr. Leiser, for sharing you knowledge in these pages. This is a book that I will refer to again and again.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Eric Leiser A National Treasure 11 novembre 2010

Having the opportunity to have corresponded with Eric Leiser via email, I found him to be very encouraging to my son who was just starting out and we both found this book to be a delight for us and to those I was teaching fly tying to. It is packed with endless tips, step by step instruction and great visual aids for one just starting out in the craft to a fly tier with experience , proving the adage that there is something to learn from everyone. He is truly a historian for the world of fly tying as well as one of the pioneers of the craft, I strongly recommend this book along with the other books he has written, even if you are experienced your section on fly tying will not be complete without Eric Leiser's titles. His books deserve top shelf in your fly tying library.

This book (Complete Book of Fly Tying, Second Edition - Hardcopy) combined with Leiser's The Book of Fly Patterns makes a complete reference set for beginning and experienced fly tyers, alike. I bought Leiser's Pattern book first (in the Kindle version) and while looking for a little more individual tying instruction guidance decided to purchase this volume as an addition. Both books are excellent references and resources. They are and rightfully should be considered classic guides for fly tying instruction. While the quality of the instructional drawings and artwork in both volumes is detailed and excellent, the poor lighting and contrast in the supporting black-and-white photos provided often leaves the reader wanting. That being said, the instructional drawings more than compensate for this issue in many instances. I would highly recommend and would buy these two volumes again. If having to choose, I would probably purchase this volume in hardcopy first.

"If you cannot explain something utilizing black and white only, don't try" (Unknown source). 'The Complete Book of Fly Tying' (Second Edition) is a very basic book, teaching you fly tying (and - to some extent - flyfishing). It is not "complete" in the sense of the "totality of all things", but it gives you a complete foundation to rest your flytying on. The book is in black and white, the drawings are excellent, the photographs are good enough. My first reaction was to the contents was negative, but after having read a few pages I decided to start over and read a litte more carefully (and with less negative bias). My conclusion after having tried to absorbe the contents: Strongly recommended for the novice up to and including the expert flytier.
