Classic Peanuts in a beautiful format 6 octobre 2012

I have all of the Peanuts books in the Fantagraphic series and they are beautifully produced and respect Schulz's work. This series is comprehensive, and reading the whole series to date, from the first edition, 1950-1954 to the current one, 1985-1986, it allows the reader to experience the evolution of the strip over the decades and it is a great thing to experience for Peanuts fans.

Fantastic ... and Surprising 11 septembre 2012
Par Samuel B. White - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié
I have grown up with Peanuts and am still a fanatic. I have all of these "Peanuts Complete" books that have been released so far and have read them over and over. Prior to that, I bought every Peanuts book I could afford and still have over a hundred paper-backs, as well as books by and about Schulz the man.

I say all that because there is a two week section in this book I swear I never saw before. It was in 1986, so I would have been working in Farmington, NM, and not getting to see the paper regularly. I can understand how I missed it then, but to have not appeared in any books since then? What is this strange and surprising series?

It was traditional that, every summer, some or all of the Peanuts gang would be shipped off to summer camp, but between July 7th and 17th, 1986, the Peanuts gang found themselves shipped off to survival camp. They wore cammo clothes and learned how to live off the land (sort of). One of the most surreal moments of all--mainly because it's in Peanuts--is on July 10 when we see Snoopy wearing a cammo hat, looking at a bulletin board, and thinking, "'Bayonet Drill-One O'Clock'.. I think I'll skip that one."

I also have to give this volume kudos because it has my all-time favorite Peanuts strip, from Jan 2, 1986, which finds Spike trying to throw a toboggan party for his cactus club.

Schultz still had it 8 mai 2014

Lot of folks feels Schultz might have lost it but a lot of these strips really made me laugh. Can't wait to have all of these books. The format has never been a thing I am wild about but.... it is what it is.

I give my husband a set every year for Christmas. He looks forward to it. We will continue until the collection is complete. Peanuts is a true classic and when you live in Minnesota it is a must.
What's not to like and admire? 12 décembre 2012
Par Robert Busko - Publié sur Amazon.com

I've finally finished the 1985-1986 copy of the Complete Peanuts and I'm more convinced than ever that Charles Schulz was (is) a genius. I mean really, if you can put the title "genius" to NFL players and coaches, then absolutely Schulz is a genius.

Having collected and read each of the volumes in the Fantagraphics series, it has become quite clear that Schulz had a rhythm or schedule to his work. Winter doldrums, baseball in the spring, summer camp during the summer vacation, then football in the fall. He also included other topics from time to time, but this pretty much sums up each volume. Characters suffer set backs (Peppermint Patties' continual struggle in school, Spikes problems in the desert, etc.) and they always seem to overcome. Lucy's continual effort to dominate every conversation, and Charlie Brown's battle with self concept continue through each volume. New characters are introduced even at this late date; the little girl named Tapioca Pudding, and her love affair with herself is a case in point.

I continue to remember where I was and what I was doing as I read these panels which is therapeutic I believe but also worth experiencing for it's own sake.

I highly recommend.
