Brown's latest thriller (after Angels and Demons)is an exhaustively researched page-turner about secret religious societies, ancient coverups and savage vengeance. The action kicks off in modern-day Paris with the murder of the Louvre's chief curator, whose body is found laid out in symbolic repose at the foot of the Mona Lisa. Seizing control of the case are Sophie Neveu, a lovely French police cryptologist, and Harvard symbol expert Robert Langdon, reprising his role from Brown's last book. The two find several puzzling codes at the murder scene, all of which form a treasure map to the fabled Holy Grail. As their search moves from France to England, Neveu and Langdon are confounded by two mysterious groups-the legendary Priory of Sion, a nearly 1,000-year-old secret society whose members have included Botticelli and Isaac Newton, and the conservative Catholic organization Opus Dei. Both have their own reasons for wanting to ensure that the Grail isn't found. Brown sometimes ladles out too much religious history at the expense of pacing, and Langdon is a hero in desperate need of more chutzpah. Still, Brown has assembled a whopper of a plot that will please both conspiracy buffs and thriller addicts.

Sorry my French is not good enough, so I must review in English. While I found this book entertaining, I did not think it much better then the average thriller. Its something to pass the time at the airport or the beach, but it is by no means great literature. I am facsinated by the fact it has sold so many copies. Why? The author plays fast and loose with historical fact, so I hope the average reader does not read it as fact. If you like thriller/mysteries with an arcehological bent, check out: "A Tourist in the Yucatan" entertaining read!

Strangely this book does manage to catch your interest immediately. The idea of starting with a murder under mysterious circumstances does lock you into further reading in this 'whodunnit' chase. However, the storyline, which the author unfolds like a Russian doll, loses its threads and falls apart midway through. What shocked me however, was that some of the information in the book was taken straight off websites (verbatim!) which alarmed me at the level of plagerism the author undertook without the least effort to change the wording. And while some of the historical information discussed is intersting and has been the question of dispute for years, the author's plot is an insult to anyone's intelligence. The storyline becomes so rediculous at one stage that I simply read it till the end just to see how far the author will go. Unfortunately he went way too far.
I second the earlier comments on the in-accuracies mentioned in the book. I live in Paris and some of the commentary is pure americana writing destined to impress the reader with the knowledge (or lack of it thereoff) of the author on the city of Paris and the French. The book makes you learn a little, gawk a little, and certainly entertain you a little, but it is far from being anywhere close to a masterpiece. I do not understand all the hype.

Ce livre est apparemment assez controverse de par son contenu : certains trouvent que les faits "historiques" ne sont pas fiables, ensuite il y a le sujet meme du livre...
Quant a moi, j'ai trouve cette lecture tres plaisante; je ne pense pas que l'auteur ait voulu ecrire un precis d'histoire, ni de religion d'ailleurs, il a simplement ecrit une fiction pour seul but de nous divertir. Les speculations faites ne sont d'ailleurs pas nouvelles et certains enonces sont d'ailleurs des faits (ex : l'image de Marie tenant l'enfant Jesus est une transposition de la reine Isis avec son fils Horus en Ancienne Egypte que les Romains ont reprise)
Au deuxieme degre, j'attirai simplement l'attention aux deux dernieres pages du chapitre 82, qui a mon avis est ce qu'il y a d'important a retenir au-dela de l'intrigue : toujours pouvoir remettre ses croyances en question, quelles qu'elles soient... Tout dogme rigide n'invite pas forcement a la reflexion et a la remise en cause. Gardons l'esprit ouvert et soyons tolerant.
