Présentation de l'éditeur

“What makes you purr? Of all the questions in the world, this is the most important. . . . . Because no matter whether you are a playful kitten or sedentary senior, whether you’re a scrawny alley Tom, or sleek-coated uptown girl, whatever your circumstances you just want to be happy. Not the kind of happy that comes and goes like a can of flaked tuna, but an enduring happiness. The deep down happiness that makes you purr from the heart.” His Holiness’s cat is back—older, a bit wiser, and as curious as ever. In this book, the Dalai Lama sets for his lovable feline companion the task of investigating The Art of Purring. Whether it’s the humorous insights gained from a visiting Ivy League Psychology Professor, the extraordinary research of a world-famous biologist, or the life-changing revelations of a mystical yogi, His Holiness’s Cat encounters a wealth of wisdom about happiness. And what she discovers changes the way she sees herself forever. With a much loved—and growing—cast of characters from the local community and His Holiness’s residence, as well as encounters with intriguing strangers and celebrities from far and wide, The Dalai Lama’s Cat and the Art of Purring will transport readers in another unforgettable story. Along the way they will come to understand how elements of contemporary science and Buddhism converge. And, once again, they will feel the warmth of compassion and nonattachment that radiate from the heart of the Dalai Lama’s teachings about our quest for enduring happiness.

I had tears my eyes feeling the beauty of some of the lines and the sense of softness linked to the cat that tells the story. A profound love for a simple story - I bow down to HHC and all her feline friends.

HHC (His Holiness's Cat) may be fluffy, but her book is not. She has some things to convey to certain persons, and found just the right medium in David Michie to do this. Clearly he writes cat very well. Really, I don't know exactly what I was expecting when I came across this book, but I do like good books about animals, though I rarely get to read one by an animal, so I had to check this out. Would I recommend this? Certainly I would, there is indeed a good vibration about this book as Rinpoche (another of her several names) carries on in the Dalai Lama's absence finding out the truth about true and lasting happiness. Some of the lessons are experienced by Rinpoche herself, and had me laughing out loud, and rereading passages, others she garners while shamelessly eavesdropping on her closest humans around the area where the Dalai Lama's residence is. In the end, does she learn the truth about what really makes us purr? I think she does, though that involves a humbling realization, she is an even better cat for it which I think the Dalai Lama always knew she had it in her to be. So, thank you dear little Rinpoche, you inspire all who read your book to consider that they may be more than they ever thought as well!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Narrated with warmth and wisdom, this book captures hearts and minds 6 décembre 2013
Par Ingrid King - Publié sur
The Dalai Lama’s cat is back! David Michie first introduced the fictional feline, HHC (His Holiness’ Cat), dubbed “Little Snow Lion” by the Dalai Lama himself, in his 2012 novel "The Dalai Lama’s Cat." HHC was rescued by the Dalai Lama when he saw the small kitten being thrown in the gutter. In the first book, the reader gets an insider’s look at the day to day life of the Dalai Lama’s world as seen by his cat.

In this sequel, the Dalai Lama gives his feline companion the task of discovering the true case of happiness.

Narrated with warmth, wit and wisdom, this book captured my heart and my mind. Like the first book, this is a wonderful introduction to Buddhist principles in an easily accessible way. Readers who are already familiar with Buddhist teachings will find themselves smiling at how the tenets are presented from a cat’s point of view. The narration is sweet, poignant and at times, funny. The lessons presented in the book are profound, but the manner in which they are conveyed is subtle and entertaining, which, I believe, actually integrates them on a deeper level than merely reading about them would suggest.

The only thing I missed in this book is a stronger presence of the Dalai Lama. In the first book, David Michie’s portrayal of the Dalai Lama adds a dimension of ordinary “humanity” to this global icon. Through Mousie-Tung’s eyes, the reader gets to see this kind, compassionate and brilliant man go about his every day business. In the second book, the focus is more on some of the many colorful residents of McLeod Ganj, whose stories and transformations as they travel the path to happiness are fascinating in their own right. And perhaps there is a lesson in the Dalai Lama’s reduced appearance in this book: happiness doesn’t just come from being in the presence of enlightened leaders, we have to find it within ourselves.

Don’t miss out on this wonderful book, and if you haven’t read the first book, treat yourself to both. While this book can be read on its own, you’ll enjoy the story that much more if you read both books.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Love It! It Makes Me Purr 18 décembre 2013

This author has done it again! Another book full of warmth and gentle wisdom that may be enjoyed by almost any age person. These have become my "go to" books when the world is too much with me. I need not worry about tears having to flow and I can take some very peaceful "mindful" moments as I read. Preferably taken with a mug of tea. This is not to say that the plot can't be a bit exciting and there's an abundance of situations to meditate upon, especially for those whose noses are glued to handheld electronics. Now...when may we look for the next book? Books?

Just received this book, and love it. It takes me back to the Himalayas, as the Dalai Lama's Cat did. Wonderful stories, plot twists, and inspiration. Each evening, I curl up with my cat and read another chapter. I want to savor it as long as possible.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This book makes me purr. 10 décembre 2013

After falling in love with the first book, I was thrilled when I learned that a second had been written. The Dalai Lama's Cat and the Art of Purring did not disappoint! It is just as charming and endearing as the first book.

The book asks the question, "what makes you purrr", or in other words, what brings you happiness. Told from the perspective of HHC (His Holiness's Cat), the story weaves in key concepts of living a happier life. There is a bit of everything in this book, from humor, to more touching moments, and yes, purring.

We first meet this adorable feline, HHC (His Holiness' Cat), also known as "Little Snow Lion" in the first book "The Dalai Lama's Cat." HHC was rescued by the Dalai Lama when he saw the small kitten being thrown in the gutter. The first story we get to know what it is like living with the Dalai Lama, all told from the perspective of a very curious kitty! We also meet some of the characters that are in the sequel.

Before leaving for a very long trip to the United States, the Dalai Lama gives his Snow Lion the task of discovering the true causes of happiness. Being the smart cat that she is, HHC sets about trying to learn what makes her purr. Along the way humans, and even some dogs, help her discover what can help create lasting happiness in life.

A fun and easy read that teaches without preaching, these books have both become favorites. In fact, I really hope there will be a third in the series.
