Revue de presse

"The Killer's Art is a classic demonstration of just why Mari Jungstedt is held in such high esteem; in Tiina Nunally's adroit translation, the prose has a stripped-down, utterly functional quality that is perfectly at the service of the carefully orchestrated plot. Writers such as Henning Mankell may outsell Jungstedt in the UK, but - if there is any justice - she will not remain caviar to the general" (Barry Forshaw)

Présentation de l'éditeur

'One of Scandinavia's best crime writers' The Times

Mari Jungstedt's compelling series of novels featuring Inspector Anders Knutas continues to go from strength to strength with The Dead of Summer, the fifth crime adventure set on the island of Gotland. Her trademark combination of rich characterisation, taut crime plots and the continuing unfolding drama of her series characters' lives add up to a mix that rivals Henning Mankell's Wallander series.

The murder of a jogger on the beach at Faro is an opportunity for Anders Knutas's newly-appointed deputy, Karin Jacobsson, to prove her worth while her boss is on holiday. But when a second body is discovered, murdered in the same style, Jacobsson's investigations point to a horrifying conclusion.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Page Turner 24 mai 2012

Couldn't stop reading it. So thrilling, a real page turner. I enjoyed the more feminine focus that is kind of rare in other crime novels. I'm not a hard core crime lover so this book was really something for me since it had both the thrilling crime plot as well as the relational drama. This was the first book I read by Mari Jungstedt and I will definitely read her other books.

I truly enjoyed this book. It is well written with a compelling plot woven into a suspenseful murder mystery. Anders Knutas is a believable protagonist and not at all your typical crime inspector, which I appreciated. You're hooked from page one of the story even if you haven't read the previous books in the series (which I had not). Surly, I think it would be good to read the previous books in order to better understand some of the references, still I feel I can highly recommend Dead of Summer to new readers of Jungstedt. It's terrific on it's own, and will definitely lure you into reading more about Knutas and Jacobsson.

I loved this book from beginning to end! If you like police procedurals that are edgy but still have a sense of humor, this book is for you. A great summer read and a real page-turner.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Fine translation of an unusual plot 6 septembre 2012

The Dead of Summer, e-ISBN 9789187173202, by Mari Jungstedt is one of the Stockholm Text's Scandinavian Crime series.
This is the first of any Scandinavian translations I have read and must say it provides a fine translation of an unusual plot. The story is about the murder of two supposedly unrelated men in a popular vacation area by shooting in an unusual pattern with a very old weapon. The personal lives of several people who are intimately involved are followed and the climatic action is quite surprising. My only commentary about the presentation is that, as presented, the activity of the two sisters and their family is a little bit of a surprise when discovered that it is not a current event. Ultimately though, it really does not detract from the overall progression of the story.
In summation, Mari Jungstedt has provided an interesting mystery and Tiina Nunnally has presented a most readable translation. Reviewed by John H. Manhold, award winning fiction/non-fiction author.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 good but not great 29 novembre 2012

This book is a bit about summer in Sweden, hence the title. It also deals with secrets and what can change and what cannot be overcome after many years. It definitely deals with moral choices that the characters make and with the effects of tragedies or near tragedies on families. For me, the past and present story lines converged too predictably, and I did not find sufficient justification for Karin Jacobsson's choices at the end of the book. I suppose I would have warmed to the character of Superintendent Anders Knutas more if I had read earlier books in the series; instead I was disappointed that he returned from vacation to relieve Jacobsson who was leading the investigation of her first major case. I did not find this a page-turner, but it was a worthwhile read.
