Présentation de l'éditeur

She was destined to be a weapon. Elise Kavanagh is good at one thing: killing demons, angels, and gods. For years, she was the death that supernatural creatures feared. More myth than woman, she walked the Earth as the embodiment of vengeance.
But Elise doesn't want anything to do with destiny. She wants time off to spend with her only friend and former investigative partner, James Faulkner - a powerful witch, the only person she trusts - and try to be a normal person, whatever that means.
Destiny hasn't forgotten her.
It's not easy to retire when you were born to be a killing machine. Old enemies still hold bitter grudges against Elise. The demon overlord of her new home isn't happy to have the Godslayer hiding out in her territory. And there are still gods that need to be killed...
This is a collection of the first three titles in The Descent Series, which are gritty urban fantasy books about an exorcist, a witch, and their battles against the forces of Heaven and Hell. (Approx. 200,000 words total.)

Books included:
1. Death's Hand
2. The Darkest Gate
3. Dark Union

Elise Kavanagh doesn't want to hunt demons anymore. It's been five years since she killed her last enemy, and life has been quiet since then. She went to college. Got a job, and then lost it. Made a friend or two. Lived a normal life. Now her former partner, a powerful witch named James Faulkner, wants Elise to fight one more time. The daughter of a coven member has been possessed, and Elise is the only exorcist nearby.

Becoming a hero again would mean risking discovery by old enemies. But digging into the case reveals that it might already be too late--bodies are disappearing, demons slither through the night, and the cogs of apocalypse are beginning to turn. Some enemies aren't willing to let the secrets of the past stay dead...

When Elise Kavanagh retired from demon hunting, she swore it would be permanent. But an attack from a powerful necromancer forced her back into the business, and now she's trying to balance her normal boyfriend and normal job with everything supernatural.

Mr. Black is a demon hunter gone rogue. He's enslaving angels and stealing ethereal artifacts in pursuit of forbidden immortality, and an old grudge drives him to make his final stand in Elise's territory. Destroying her life and killing her friends isn't the goal, but it's a definite perk.

A demonic overlord offers to join against Mr. Black and protect Elise's loved ones. All she needs to do is ally with the demons she's sworn to kill, at the cost of her morals--and maybe her immortal soul. But once she crosses that line, there's no turning back.

Nothing is sacred when Heaven and Hell collide on Earth...

Every fifty years, the most powerful ethereal and infernal beings convene on Earth to resolve conflicts with mediation by kopides--humans born to police relations between Heaven and Hell. They're meeting in Elise Kavanagh's territory this year, and she used to be the greatest kopis in the world. But she's not invited.

An old friend, Lucas McIntyre, asks her to attend the summit in his place. But when she arrives, she discovers that a human faction called The Union has taken charge of the summit, and they're not playing nice. Worse yet, someone has killed a prominent Union member... and now they're demanding blood.

Hi everyone! My name is Sara, and I write urban fantasy novels as SM Reine. I collect swords, cat hair, and typewriters (which I do use for writing!). It's a good day when those three things have nothing to do with each other.

If you would like to know the instant I have a new book available, you should enlist in my Army of Evil! We have a WICKED cool secret handshake, but you'll have to sign up to learn it. ;) Check it out -- http://smarturl.it/armyofevil

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Reviews of book 2 and 3. 24 août 2013

These books are just simply OK.

Book 2: I'm not sure what makes me unable to decide whether or not I like these books. I like the theme, the angels which are not exactly the benevolent guardians we think, the demons who enslave angels. I think my problem is with the main character. She is simply irritating. She is supposed to be tough and the best in her field, but she just makes stupid and illogical decisions, and almost dies in every fight. And, she is a bitch (not in that charming, funny way say, Dr. House is, she's just a mean bitch), and she has this tomboy image which is thoroughly ruined when she acts like a jealous idiot. I simply cannot relate to her.
Still, I can't give them up. There's just something that makes me read on, and not want to make me put down my Kindle. It's a strange love/hate-relationship between Elise and me.

Book 3: Elise get more irritating by the page. I had no connection to her whatsoever. In addition, this book was... well... I don't really know. I didn't really see the point of it. It didn't seem like a whole book, it seemed like the beginning (a very slow one, but still) of a book.
All the characters were frustrating, none of them seemed plausible.
It's really quite difficult to write a review of this book, it just seemed to lack a bit of everything that makes a book good. It was simply "meh".
And the grammatical errors (in all three books) didn't help one bit.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A Surprising Find - A Good Read 9 octobre 2013

I read the reviews to this three book collection before I decided on getting them. After seeing some of the reviews I almost left this book (well all three) behind and moved on to look at something else. Despite my hesitation I decided to go ahead and get it, why not its free right?

Well it surprised me. I found myself flying through the pages and enjoying the story much more than I thought I would. Many people complain about the jumping back and forth between the present and the past, but I had didn't have that problem. The time jumps are clearly stated and happen only with a new chapter, it's not like it just changes all of a sudden. I would have been disappointed if I didn't get the glimpses from Elise's past. The past explains the present, both are important and in my opinion the jumps are well done.

The romance that simmers in the air is fun and complicated, which is exactly what it should be in a story such as this. I love how the romance is down played and the action never seems to stop. The past gives you just enough information to enjoy the present, but leaves you guessing and interested in what will happen next.

I will be continuing this series, and hope to dabble with some of the other stories that this author has written.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Love the series!! 10 août 2013

I personally thought this was a great read. It does go back in forth between the past and present and at first it drove me nuts, because you get to the end of a chapter like, ok what's going to happen next? And then it takes you to the past and you're like Aahhhh I want to know what's going to happen. So it sucks you in and makes you keep reading! I got used to the back and forth between past and present, and really didn't mind it, because then you're like, ooooohhh so that's why this is like that! Anywho, if you don't mind that kind of writing, I definitely recommend this series. Couldn't put this series down! I've read all of the series that she has out and I cannot wait for the next one to come out!

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Extremely hard to keep track of the storyline 25 janvier 2013

The author jumps back and forth between the present and past with no warning or necessity. It was extremely hard to figure out what's going on half the time. I managed to finish half of the first book after which I couldn't take the bouncing back and forth. It's hard to imagine the scenario in your head when you're not sure at what time point everything's going on, or where. Two stars for the effort. On the plus side, the fight scenes were pretty well described.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Do not waste good money on this series 19 février 2013

The reviewer who compared this series to Kim Harrison's Hollows Series is insulting Kim Harrison. These books jump backwards and forward to the point you are no longer sure what is happening or when or if you can be bothered to carry on reading them to find out (unfortunately I persevered) I am all for using a bit of back story to fill in information but this was ridiculous I kept wondering if maybe these books were miss labeled 1-3 and should have been labeled 3-6 or I had missed something. I kept having to go back a few pages to check the timeline - not as easy on a Kindle as with a real book. My time would have been better served by doing some ironing (which is something I loathe), Life is too precious to waste it reading these books.
