Présentation de l'éditeur

Dominic was eleven when his father died. Pascala was the same age when she too lost her mother. Both are only children, both feel lonely, and both suffer the confusion of loss amidst growth when they meet in grade school, yet they cannot see their similarities for many years, not until powerful supernatural forces draw them together. Once they start to see deeper inside one another, Pascala soon learns that there can be many angels in the world while he too learns that there might be more than one Door to Heaven. Thus is sparked a story of triumph over tragedy, of heroism over heartache, and of the fire of eternal love that burns rich and bright at the heart of life.

Kindle Bestseller BECKET, author of The Blood Vivicanti, brings you a story of The Door to Heaven.

The Door to Heaven is a character-driven novel about spirituality and choices that will appeal to any individual of faith, regardless of which God you serve. Told through the experiences of two children- the only true physical manifestation of purity, and innocence- the descriptive nature of the story is strong, while still maintaining the beautiful simplicity of the way children see the world... and God. Only the pure of heart could be this receptive to the purity of God. But even the pure can be put to a test, and left to wrestle with various demons.

Becket's writing style here is fluid, and evocative. I never cease to be amazed at his versatility. Whether writing horror/steampunk, children's stories, or spiritual tales, his voice is strong and clear, while being adaptive enough to stretch across all the different minds he's created.

The story is rife with symbolism, but is delivered with a soft enough hand that you're left feeling both uplifted and with much to think about, and consider (reminiscent of Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist). The growth of both Dominic and Pascala, starting with their respective losses, happens in different ways, both which culminate into an ending I won't spoil, but left me with chills. One I'll be thinking about for a long while.

Wonderful, wonderful story, for anyone who has a passion for understanding the human condition.

The Door to Heaven is a beautifully written coming of age novel about the power of faith, hope, and love. Faced with similar and equally heart-wrenching tragedy, this novel tells a story of two children, Dominic and Pascal, who must overcome their grief to find faith in not only each other, but in the world around them. This is a touchingly spiritual tale which beautifully demonstrates the protagonists’ transition from the innocence of childhood to the adult world. Becket masterfully blends Dominic and Pascal’s stories, demonstrating, as with his previous novels, his amazing ability to weave a compelling story which both enchants and inspires.

Becket has shone his talent in a fantastic new light by writing another and completely different book from his others. The prose is poetic and the narration put you in a place to really think about and feel what Dominic and Pascala go through as they grow up. It's a sweet story packed with a lot of love and tragedy that will melt your heart.

It's taken me longer to write this review than I intended, primarily because it took me a lot longer to make my way through the book than anticipated, and then I had to spend a few days internalizing what I had read. First off, I do not recommend reading this as I did - in fits and starts - stealing a couple pages here and a few chapters there. This is a story that demands to be read in great draughts with minimal interruption. There is a powerful rhythm and cadence to Becket's words, and the phraseology and musicality of the narrative flow is much more evident when consumed in long uninterrupted stretches. In fact, this is a tale that practically begs to be read out loud to be fully appreciated.
On the face, this is a fairly simple story of childhood love and loss. Dig a little deeper and you find a powerful allegory rife with symbolism, told in a child's clear tone with gripping intensity. Neither an easy read nor a light one, this oddly compelling book was much weightier than its slim 250 pages implied, and leaves the slightly unsettling impression of much more dwelling just under the surface. This is the first of Becket's books I've had the opportunity to read, and I am left with a strong sense of presence, the comforting angel wing gossamer brush of grace, and (bizarrely enough) the almost audible sound of handbells - something low, melodic and sweetly minor in key. An unusual read, but an enjoyable one. I'll be revisiting these pages again.
4.5 stars with an extra half star thrown in for a truly beautiful cover design.
